Games / Daggerfall in DOS window
« Last post by _AP on January 14, 2025, 05:49:31 am »
Hi.  I can run daggerfall in DOSBox on a Mac, but have been unsuccessful in doing so in a dos session on OS/2 Warp 4.52.  Has anyone been successful with this?

Other games from my FreeDOS partition work in OS2 DOS sessions.

Update:  I found out about Z.CFG, made the path changes.  Now no error, just a black screen.

Most storage (if not all?) have that whole 'Secure Erase/Wipe' function...the intention is to do precisely what you want, and more...as in literally wipe out complete HD. Often times that can be accessed through BIOS, although the other stuff probably doesn't have that.

You can typically d/l the HDD manufacturer specific utility however, so that might be worth considering?

There are open source options as well, see http://www.dban.org/

Otherwise, to properly set up for a fresh install what Dave suggests should be plenty powerful!!!

In version 2024.11.17. diacritical marks are available.
More precisely, the diacritical marks are visible on the web page but I can't type them in the search engine.
The QT5 libs have been upgraded.

Regards

Does this build work for you, ftp://dry@ftp.os2voice.org/tmp/dooble-2025.01.03-qt5.zip
this version is the same like te previous one.
I have not tested in more detail but diacritics still does not show.

Hallo Craig,

For me the best Email program is PMMail although I right now have some trouble with sendung Emails as my Provider has changed something which I up to now do not really understand. But I hope I will do in the near future.

DFSee has an option to wipe the beginning of the drive. Assuming you are doing MBR booting, this will basically blank the drive as far as partitioning tools are concerned.
Mode=FDISK-->Wipe Start of Disk to Zero, then pick your drive

Do we have a way/program that will wipe a hard disk back to 'as new' state?

I ask because since my computer  was messed up by friends trying to use windows on it, I am unable to run many of the programs I used to, it will lock up for no known reason, programs that I used every day no longer start.  I used to have an up time of several weeks now I am lucky to get a day.  I can't afford to get a  new multi TB disk, my pension doesn't allow that kind of expenditure (in the summer not a big problem but with the temp down to 4 C not an option.

I live in the US (TN to be more specific).

I am just looking for a way to check my email (and leave it on the server, so no downloading).

I am a long time OS/2 user (back form 2.1) but also a typical user where I know what I am doing but never really digging deep (programing, etc).

I wish there was an easy way to just get my email, and since our browser is so old (and I am excited for a newer one like Dooble), I am not even able to go that route (webmail).

I appreciate everyone's comments, so for right now I don't think there are any great ways of getting email (other apps included) but I will try and see how the gmail setup is though outlook is my primary email because of work).

If I am able to get any of them (outlook, gmail, or yahoo) working I will let everyone know!

Thanks!!!

I think the topic is a bit misleading. I think you're really want to know with which program can you connect to your preferred email provider.

Our Seamonkey/Thunderbird are perfectly well email programs. Means displaying, filter, manage emails and different email accounts.

But you seem to have problems to fetch emails from some providers. First I think you've to decide if you wanna IMAP or POP and which provider do you need/like. Different providers have different authentication restrictions. That's why this discussion went of to Oaut or stunnel.... F.e. my providers don't need fancy Oaut. I usually use POP with gmx.net and a1.net. But if you need to use gmail I think the question have to be 'how to fetch email from gmail (POP/IMAP?)'? Mind Google is known to change things quite often. It also seems that Google (gmail) currently uses different restrictions in different parts of the world. So when it works f.i. here in Europe it does not mean it will in Australia. (See current discussion on weasel list.)

So I think you've to find out first what Google and Yahoo needs in your area. No clue where you're living Craig, but maybe someone in your region knows the information. I for myself quit all gmail related services a while ago as I found it to be too cumbersome to follow there ever changing restrictions.

The problem with PMMail is that it doesn't handle some of the security connections that these big email providers demand. Perhaps if it now supports the correct TLS, an app password would also work.

The new PMMAIL version from OS/2 VOICE can a setup with stunnel to provide encryption.

Roderick

Both SSL/TLS and StartTLS?
I see for Gmail, I'm using SSL/TLS and normal password so likely to work with stunnel. I'd guess that Outlook is similar.
