Mail-News / Re: ExQuilla for Thunderbird under eCS
« on: August 05, 2014, 12:16:07 am »
This got me curious... the addon has 4 DLLs (which look like they are pairs, one pair stable, one pair beta) which without a wrapper (like the flash and java plugin wrappers or PE) would not work with Odin (well maybe if the win32k.sys were used but even then unlikely and not recommended).  However, this is a Java solution that may be workable:
http://davmail.sourceforge.net/
but thankfully I have no exchange server to test it with.

the path now shows as:  PATH \I\IBMCOM
It should be "C:\I\IBMCOM".

"C:".
Well, your close... had it recreated it correctly on it its own it would have been d:\ibmcom but then that was the point.  It does not recreate it correctly if you delete it and let it recreate, thus why the INI editor approach is necessary.

But when I run "System Setup->Network->Adapters and Proptocols", it access, I click "Configure MPTS", and that moment it only shows the blank white screen that seems to be looping with something.

Try to delete C:\IBMLVL.INI or edit it (using INI editor).
Just using a text editor I see it has the path to my ibmcom directory.  I renamed the file and it rebuilt the ibmlvl.ini but the path now shows as:  PATH \I\IBMCOM   so you'd need to use the ini editor approach and change the path.

Storage / Re: DISKCACHE causes delays on JFS volumes
« on: June 17, 2014, 05:21:37 pm »
This is what ConfigTool has to say about REMing it: "If you have a FAT partition on your hard drive and you REM this statement, OS/2 will automatically set up a 64k cache by default". I am not sure what it does if there is no FAT partition. You may find that any FAT device (other than diskettes) will not work without it.
I have had it remarked out for many years now as the only FAT drive I have is a rarely used USB stick (I have most with FAT32 or JFS - maybe one HPFS).  As the USB stick still works despite the REM and no FAT partition on the drive means that either it set up the 64k anyhow or there is no cacheing but it still works.

At some point Bitwise is going to run out of funding for the Firefox port, dmik has put a lot of time in understanding the code, which is a huge mess so I'd suggest it as another use for the fund.

I would support this idea too  -   without proper browser,  os/2 has no chance to survive
Another option is to Port QT5 and use one of the webkit browsers... less work probably in the long term and more options available too.  FIrefox seems to be doing its best to marginalize itself.

How good is the QT5 version of webkit compared to the Apple version or others?
I really have no idea, I have heard some banter of the idea of using the webkit but figured that it would be better to do that with QT5 than QT4 if it was going to be done so put forth the notion.

Hardware / Re: eCS on an eCS board based computer?

I now have a Dell E5500 with wireless connectivity - but, if speed 54Mbps is anything to go by, it is not using N when booted from eCS. Maybe I need to do some sort of tweaking somewhere?
54 certainly suggests you are only connecting at G and not N.  I am not sure what to tweak though, the files included in the package are the ones that connect with N for me (currently showing 72).  I am fairly sure I had the speeds with the original wpa_suplicant but I do currently have the latest build from Paul Smedley:
http://os2ports.smedley.id.au/index.php?page=wpa-supplicant
I am now also running xwlan 3.12 but had the speeds with the earlier one too.  It does connect faster under Windows?  The router I have at home only has 144, which it starts at but always drops below that.  At work I have a router can connect at 300.

General Discussion / Re: eCS 2.2

Besides Lewis' announcement, there has now been posted this in the eCS newsgroup:
We are working hard on eCS 2.2.
Apologies for the long silence.
More information will follow soon.

Programming / Re: How to specify wlink as linker for gcc?

It can be done in the config.sys but generally is done in a script to setup your environment.

Steve's OS/2 Warp News and Rumors and his Warpzilla page which had been on Pete's site is now on the Warpstock servers:
http://os2news.warpstock.org
http://os2news.warpstock.org/Warpzilla.html
They were moved to the Warpstock servers several months ago (I don't recall exactly when now) because Pete was planning to stop running his server.

Question about:
Q:    What is the purpose of the CLOCK03B.SYS driver?
A:    The CLOCK03B.SYS was rewritten in 32-bit and now contains two drivers: CLOCK$ and TIMER0$ (having more than one driver per module is allowed in OS/2). That was made for better performance and code cleanup.

Does this new driver either recognize the clockscale=4 option (4 having been the max with the clock01.sys)?

Hi Andy

Sorry, I stand corrected. I guess I should have said "The last time I checked N was not working".
I wonder if I could swap an Intel 5100 BGN for the Dell 1510N (Broadcom BCM43 series nic) fitted to my Dell E5500 laptop... What driver would I need?
Regards
Pete
Get GenMU_TEST-0-2-7.wpi from ftp://genmac <AT> ftp.os2voice.org and when prompted for password use unsupported.  It should have the Intel 5100 driver.  It works here, I did run into a problem similar to the one reported where the wireless never showed any available APs with a clean install on the same hardware.  I would have to go through a series of disabling and enabling before I could get it to see the APs but I had enough other problems with the install that I swapped HDDs back around and have not looked into it further.

What you would need to install in that slot would be an older wireless nic such as an Intel 3945ABG - pointless installing an "N rated" nic as nobody seems to be able to get these working with eCS.
Pete
I have the Intel 5100 BGN working here and N works.  I know a few others have also been successful with it, though I know of at least one who has not been but I haven't been able to figure out why.

I was also unclear that the license was not GPL, which is only allowed to be linked to system libraries.

While the eco-runtime was not part of OS/2, it was distributed I believe with at least one version of eCS so it can be argued it is a system library so whether LGPL (which I consider a free as in speech license) or GPL (free as in beer license) it would meet the requirements.  Apache license is good (free speech license).

Programming / Re: Multimac - chipsets requiring support

* Intel 5100 AGN   - Not supported
Not supported but does work on some systems with genmac... Does not on Alex's machine but does mine for instance.  It has a tendency to drop the connection so I would like the multimac driver for it too.
