Hardware / nForce 650i SLI Motherboard

I've picked up a Dell XPS 720 which has a nForce 650i SLI chipset I believe (could be a 680i). Anyone have experience with this chipset and ArcaOS? I understand that nvidia chipsets aren't recommended.

Internet / SeaMonkey Experimental build 3

I've uploaded https://bitbucket.org/dryeo/dry-comm-esr31/downloads/seamonkey-2.42.9esr.en-US.os2_exp3.zip with the latest Bitwise commits to Mozilla (Firefox).
I've been running this for a bit and seems to use lower CPU and is fairly stable, even with addons such as Chatzilla enabled. Back to -O3 optimization as experimenting with -Os (small) optimizations caused higher CPU usage and once again built with GCC 510 after I found that using 4.92 gave the unable to play video error on Youtube.
Probably needs the libcx in exp.

Internet / Experimental build of SeaMonkey

I've uploaded an experimental build of SeaMonkey 2.42.9ESR, https://bitbucket.org/dryeo/dry-comm-esr31/downloads/seamonkey-2.42.9esr.en-US.os2_exp1.zip
Optimized for size instead of performance, should fit into memory a bit better and almost as fast. Also optimized for a Pentium M so needs a CPU with SSE2 support.
You could also install it as if it was an RPM, putting everything in @UNIXROOT/usr/lib/seamonkey-2.42.9esr and a copy of seamonkey.exe in @UNIXROOT/usr/bin so it is on the PATH.
Same codebase as the latest release of Firefox. Once dmik releases another version of Firefox, I'll release the usual i686 build and if I ever get some guidance on building an RPM, I'll try to release them as well.
Needs the latest libcx and libc that are now available on netlabs-release RPM repository (I hope).

Note there also seems to be a regression with highmem support, marking xul.dll to load code and data makes SM unstable here on ArcaOS.

Internet / SeaMonkey-2.42b8 and Thunderbird 45.8.0

Hi I've uploaded builds of SeaMonkey and Thunderbird built on the ESR branch using Bitwises Gecko code. They're 2 commits behind, so the readme and changelog haven't been updated to the same level as Firefox ESR and still require RUN!. They also only have the extra requirement of libvpx as well as possibly the nspr in the experimental repository (untested with the stable version of nspr, the experimental one was needed to build)
SeaMonkey is a special case as 2.42 was never released. I've backported a couple of patches and have more that don't apply, need to hunt through more bugs Both apps seem to run fine here though they seem to use more shared memory and SM is somewhat slow.
Not sure that Lightning will be automatically installed, it was here with an unpackaged binary. If needed I'll upload the XPI.

Programming / OpenWatcom & GCC

I'm trying to link a GCC built DLL to an OpenWatcom binary and it is failing with unresolved symbols.
Seems it is using the wrong calling convention, the OW binary is expecting foo_ instead of the _foo symbol that is exported.
Anyone know the correct OW CFLAGS to produce the correct calling convention, STDCALL IIRC?

I've uploaded https://bitbucket.org/dryeo/dry-comm-esr31/downloads/seamonkey-2.35a2.en-US.os2.zip, commesr updated to 38.8.0, Bitwise currently at 38.6.1, along with various fixes from Bitwise, who are given a big thanks.
New requirement is icu (yum install libicu) for internationalization support in JavaScript and if the FFmpeg/Libav (not FFmpeg 3.x) DLLs are found in the Libpath, MP4 and AAC should be supported in HTML5 video.
Yum install ffmpeg_libs or I have a couple of minimal libav builds at https://bitbucket.org/dryeo/libav/downloads. They'll have a couple of small requirements such as libz and bzip2.

Hi I've uploaded a preview of SeaMonkey 2.35 to bitbucket in five part harmony https://bitbucket.org/dryeo/dry-comm-esr31/downloads/seamonkey-2.35a1.en-US.os2.zip along with .z01-.z04 to get around upload problems I've been having.
If anyone wants to concat the zips together, I can give write access.

This build is a few commits behind the recent bitwise release of FF38esr. Still using the internal Cairo so printing should still work (untested). Requires the new fontconfig. and otherwise the same requirements as 2.28.
One known issue is https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/issues/152, fixed after I built this, there is a workaround mentioned in the issue.
I'll upload a version equal to the current FF release as well as TB when I get a chance.

I've rebuilt Thunderbird 31.8.0. This is optimized for a Pentium M and should run on most CPUs newer then a PIII. Once again linked against the new Fontconfig library.

Also I've uploaded the new Fontconfig library to the same page for those who don't like YUM/RPM. You also need http://os2news.warpstock.org/mozsupport-2016-01-16.zip and unluckily the Fontconfig configuration files have hard coded location requirements, see included readme.

I've uploaded an experimental build of SM 2.28 to https://bitbucket.org/dryeo/dry-comm-esr31/downloads.
This build is optimized for Core2Duo and should work on most CPU's less then a decade old with best performance on Intel chips after P4, probably good performance on AMD as well, untested. If you get a sigill, your CPU is too old.
This is also linked against the new Fontconfig currently available in the Netlabs RPM experimental repository.
Other then above, same code, same requirements.

Storage / Share a 2TB USB drive between Windows and OS/2?

I understand that for OS/2 to see a 2TB drive the geometry needs adjusting. If done to a USB 2TB drive, will Windows still see it?
I'd like to acquire one and share it between myself (OS/2) and my son who has Win7 and Linux on his box by partitioning into two 1TB partitions and using for backup purposes.

OS/2 users can get pretty compliant about security as we have a minor platform that was relatively secure. as such many users do not update browsers and other potentially insecure software.
Here is an example of a security vulnerability that allows a malicious actor to download any file on our computers, https://blog.mozilla.org/security/2015/08/06/firefox-exploit-found-in-the-wild/. While only targeted at Windows and Linux, there is no reason that it couldn't also target everything in general.
Luckily this particular vulnerability doesn't affect us due to not being up to date, our old browsers quite possibly have vulnerabilities.
I suggest not running JavaScript by default, perhaps using no-script. Not loading ads as often they come from somewhere else and have exploits attached as the ad companies don't seem to care much. Adblock Plus is one solution. And minimizing usage of Flash by going into the addons manager and setting Flash to always ask for permission to run. Especially important given our old version of Flash. Same could be done for Java.
