Setup & Installation / Re: Problem installing eCups 2.1
« on: April 21, 2016, 01:31:32 pm »
Me again. I uninstalled the WarpIn  cups base, filters and HPLIP packages, then reinstalled from the zip files, leaving the wizard, port and ecups-HP driver in place. I created a printer using the wizard. Test print from the web interface worked on second attempt, and I can print ok from OpenOffice. Make of that what you will.

Hi Pete. Since my last post I've deleted all and re-installed, and this time the wizard was able to create a printer object with no problems. So that problem was probably something left around from 2.03, and it just needed a thorough enough uninstall. Now I can't print the test page - I'm getting  'not a pdf file' or 'unrecognized file type' errors. I've set log level to debug2 and  part of the log file is attached.

Thanks
Pete

Hello! I'm also having problems installing eCUPS 2.1 . I installed the base, HP-LIP, ecups_HP driver and wizard packages, and replaced cups20.dll in ecs\dll with the new version. I used the wizard to try to create a printer (I like the fact that the HP deskjet 2510 is now listed) but it failed. Relevant part of the log is attached - I think the problem occurs where it says 'broken pipe'. I'm not sure what to try to fix this.

Hi Paul. I'm using your latest build. I don't know whether there are any compatibility issues with hplip 3.15.11. Changing 3.13.3 to 3.15.11 in hplip.conf doesn't help.

I have a dekjet 2510 all-in-one; CUPS is now working for this (cups 2.0.3 + cups filters 1.0.71+ hplip 3.15.11)
 hp-mkuri -b 1 -d 1 produces
hp:/usb/Deskjet_2510_series?serial=CN35P37JHK05QX
hpaio:/usb/Deskjet_2510_series?serial=CN35P37JHK05QX

Nothing seems to happen in response to
scanimage -d hpaio:/usb/Deskjet_2510_series?serial=CN35P37JHK05QX >output.pnm
Has to be killed with ctrl-C.

Output of scanimage -v -d hpaio:/usb/Deskjet_2510_series?serial=CN35P37JHK05QX 1>output.pnm 2>debugoutput.txt is
[sanei_debug] Setting debug level of hpaio to 255.
[hpaio] sane_hpaio_init(): scan/sane/hpaio.c 294
[hpaio] sane_hpaio_open(/usb/Deskjet_2510_series?serial=CN35P37JHK05QX): scan/sane/hpaio.c 328 scan_type=7 scansrc=1

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks
Pete

Update - Today, having changed nothing as far as I am aware, I can print from Lucide, qpdfview, PMview, Firefox and OpenOffice. So it now looks like printing is working fully on the deskjet 2510.

NB I've been following the discussion here, so I deleted all of the 2.0 installation before installing 2.03, and removed all read-only attributes. Next thing is scanning...

Thanks Paul for all your work. I have a deskjet 2510 all-in-one (passed on to me rather than specifically chosen.) With cups-2.0.0-os2-20141019, cups-filters-1.0.61-os2-20141026 and hplip-3_12_10a I could print the test page from the web interface, and ps and pdf files using cupslpr. Printing from lucide also worked.

I've now installed cups-2.0.3-os2-20150728, cups-filters-1.0.71-os2-20150725 and hplip-3.15.11-os2-20151121, and imported the 3.15.11 ppd into psprint. The test page prints from the web interface ok.Command line printing of ps and pdf files works after installing bc-1.06. I used the cups wizard to set up a printer object. I can't get printing from lucide to work, and printing from OpenOffice fails with
"Can't detect file type"
prnt/hpcups/HPCupsFilter.cpp 588: cupsRasterOpen failed, fd = 0
PID 3405 (/cups/lib/cups/filter/gstoraster.exe) stopped with status 1.
Any thoughts on this?

BTW - as my usr tree isn't on my boot drive (where cups currently is) it's much appreciated that the OS/2 path is now appended to the path set by cups. Thanks :)

Hey Neil,

Is there some way to get more information about the error "could not load plug-in for type 'PDF'"?

I would use pmdll or something similar to ensure all dependent DLL's are present and can be loaded. I'll wager you have a DLL missing somewhere..
I also get this error, but pmdll shows no missing dlls.

 Install.os2 includes the following:

"If you have tried to open a file and not all requirements have been there at this try, Qt screwed his plugin cache.
To overcome that delete %HOME%/.config/Trolltech.ini. It will be created again when a Qt app starts."

I've tried this and still get the error. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have used the TeXLive port (os2teTeX 3.0), which can output directly to pdf using pdftex, with TeXMaker for several years now. It works fine in my experience. I'm interested in using Beamer but haven't tried yet. I'll post if/when I get it working.

At work I use TexMaker with the teTeX distribution on ubuntu. It's possible that TexMaker expects to be used with teTeX - you can get Jun Sawataishi's port from Hobbes. On OS/2 I use TexStudio, a fork of TexMaker, with teTeX, and it works fine.

David, lswitch is at http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/util/wps/lsw271b0.zip See readme.270 for how to install the widget. It works for ecenter the same way as for Xcenter.

Use the lswitch window list widget. Clicking 'Desktop' minimises all windows; another click restores them.

I use Mindterm 4.0 for remote connections via ssh and for sftp. No problems here.
