I checked the sites for North America. it seems only the Canadian one works.

I tried logging in but it indicates it is forbidden.

I am checking it out. I was able to download a couple of the files.

Hardware / Re: Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-141AP and ArcaOS 5.0.7?
« on: October 10, 2023, 09:20:15 pm »
I have used the USB DVD drive. It does freeze after it gets to a certain point.

I have tried the USB flash drive that I made using the free program. the computer just ignores it and goes to what is on the drive. I will check to see what kind of drive it is.

I have tried ./dfsanwin.exe -q run aosboot.dfs but I just get an error. I have a flash drive. How do I get it to install onto the flash drive? I might try it on my other HP EliteBook 803 G3 laptop (see other post).

I tried the USB optical drive again; since I changed the bios to legacy. It got to a certain point then stopped. There isn't an error message. It just stopped. I will try again.

I miss laptops having built in optical drives. I think this might be easier with one on my laptop.

https://www.arcanoae.com/wiki/arcaos/obtaining-arcaos/#burn-win
'Windows 7, 8, 10, 11, and Windows Server 2008r2, 2012, 2016, and 2019
It should be sufficient to put a writable DVD in your DVD drive. Then right-click on the ArcaOS ISO file in Windows Explorer and select the menu option Burn disc image'

since I am able to get into the bias; I will give this a try.

Hardware / Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-141AP and ArcaOS 5.0.7?
« on: October 09, 2023, 05:53:35 pm »
I have an Lenovo IdeaPad 120S-141AP that I am trying to get ArcaOS to install on. I was able to get the .iso onto an USB flash drive. I was able - after many attempts and checking online - to get to the BIOS. I changed the it for UEFI to Legacy. I had the USB drive as the first one to boot from. It still doesn't install ArcaOS onto it. I am still working on it. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

update: I just checked again. It was set for legacy at boot but the UEFI was listed first to boot. It has been changed to legacy being first to boot.

I finally got around to trying the properly made installation disc. I was using an USB optical drive. It didn't install. It didn't do much at all. I still had the 5.0.7 version and have yet to get the 5.1 version.

I created an USB installation. I used a program called ISO to USB. It was free to use, at 'ones own risk'. It seemed to have worked in making the USB like an installation disc. It didn't install the OS unto the laptop computer. I will need to get the 5.1 version and will give it another try.

the below is just me complaining and wishing;

I miss computers having an optical drive. I wish there were more USB ports on some of these computers.

Off Topic discussions / John Poole Software Operating System/5?
« on: August 31, 2023, 07:36:46 pm »
I came across this video and website showing called OS/5 by John Poole Software. I thought it was interesting.
https://youtu.be/xaTelXsXNRU?si=M38TFnjPSyagE63V
One can still download it?
https://vetusware.com/download/OS5%20Desktop%201.1/?id=17975

Here is the information on it from the video on YouTube
'
OS/5 is a Shareware PC operating system based on a Microsoft programming language that itself was rarely used. Intended to be an inexpensive, lightweight alternative to Windows, OS/2, and other graphical user interfaces, OS/5's Desktop runs in text mode while retaining many GUI features. Created by John Poole and released in 1996, two versions of it are known to exist, and would have been lost entirely if I had not saved them over 25 years ago, because they have not been archived anywhere online and trying to search for OS/5 or its author will turn up nothing except this video.
