Both in a virtual container and real hardware AOS 5.1.1

Boot, about 3-5% CPU utilization.

Start IBM works 5-8% utilization.

Start Firefox, 89%+ Utilization.

Is that normal expected behavior?

Programming / Re: REXX IDE recommendations?
« on: August 08, 2025, 04:58:10 pm »
Helpful Thread, I was going to ask the same, but everything was covered here.

I'm working with "Teach Yourself REXX in 21 Days" and I downloaded MED CX and it's doing everything I need.

Much improved over using e.

Is there a pdf for Teach Yourself REXX in 21 Days?

Having trouble accessing this website, the last couple of days.

Will this site being down, negatively impact ANPM?

Ok.. I remember running DEFRAGFS on OS/2 Warp and I think Merlin.

Wasn't sure why it disappeared, or if anything had replaced it.

Utilities / Snap Shot / Save System State.

Mostly I use a VM to test with, that way, I can snapshot to my hearts content, before trying something, like an install, that might change multiple files, in multiple locations.

What is my best bet for doing that on real iron? Wasn't one of the selling points of JFS snapshots?

Ok, I'm sure I could make cron work (we have been friends for 40 years), but since my primary reason for investment in Arca was to re-familiarize myself with os/2 and learn all the new arac goodness, I'll try the program object way first.

Thanks Dariusz and Dave.

Utilities / Job Scheduling

Last week I installed locate.

Today, I went in to use it was warned - the database was more than 8 days old.

I use crontab on linux, and at on windows.

What's the preferred method of job scheduling on ArcaOS?

 Success!

I was able to use ANPM, to enable netlab-exp.

Then I was able to install smartutils.

Ignorant question for any of you all.

Usually when I do an rpm -i under unix, it expects a file called *.rpm.

This zip, has what appears to be the files and locations where it needs installed.

How do I install this?

Thanks!

Setup & Installation / Re: SDHC Card Support

The wiki looks awesome.

As for the install.
I changed the bios to secure boot off,
     no uefi,
      legacy,
        csm on.

I had one quirk in the install, I logged it on Mantis [which I can't access at the moment]

I think it's the 3rd reboot, startup.cmd installs things, like the bar on the bottom of the screen.
Mine abended on product 29 or 27.

I worked around that, by moving startup.cmd to dan_startup.cmd, rebooting.
starting cmd.exe and running dan_startup.cmd by hand - and it completed.

Last week, I read all the help / wiki files on arcanoea.com,
This week I read through everything in /sys/doc.

Setup & Installation / SDHC Card Support

Using a Thinkpad T530 - it has an SD Card slot, collecting dust.

Should I be able to pop-in an SDHC
card and use minilvm to format it?

Would the recommendation be FAT32 or JFS?

Is the backend for this the usbmsd?

Hardware / Re: USBCOM big problem
« on: July 31, 2025, 06:08:35 pm »
Thanks, that's helpful.

I did a MODE COM6 - and it came up with serial parameters, which was helpful.

I'm using a FT232R, which the docs state has not been verified, but looking through usbser.txt, it looks to be the only in-production device supported.

Hopefully, soon I can get hooked to another PC's RS232 port and test.
