Hey Mark,

I took a look at soundmixer.c this evening - I don't see a way to easily set auto-mute to 0 by default. For now, the workaround will need to be using unimix in startup.cmd

I'll look to add something to the readme as well

Cheers,

Paul

Hey Mark,

First of all auto-mute in Unimix was id20, not id19 (at least on HYPERFIRE .... I used the command "unimix -names" from a prompt, to find the correct setting - it varies, as Manticore II reported it at id23)

But I can report that I disabled it and ......... SOUND WORKS with the ALC892 chipset!!!!!!

command prompt line for me to disable ......... unimix -id20 -val0=0

So the problem is indeed auto-mute being enabled for this chipset by default.

However still one little drawback to solve - I have to re-enable that every time I reboot warm or cold. Do you know of a way of setting unimix to automatically apply that fix upon reboot?

Very brief reply for now... re: 'Auto Mute' I'm going to see if I can automatically disable it within soundmixer.c - I just need to spend some quality time reading the code and understanding how it works..

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi Eugene,
Paul in the two drops you asked to comment on. 20229018 is extremely buggy. PM123 really acts strange with this driver. It does work though. 20220924 acts much better and is stable for me.

That's really interesting - it does support what Andy commented - in that his change caused more problems than it solved.

Cheers,

Paul.

Are you able to be a little more descriptive on what GOOD and Bad mean?

OK... I will try and test with my Thinkpad T470s.... I'd love to know if mic/line in EVER worked with Uniaud.....

If you get a chance to run a 'testlog uniaud' with a debug driver, it would be interesting to see....

There's also aswitch.exe along with aswitchsetup.cmd, I believe on recent ArcaOS installs,
Code: [Select]
W:\MMOS2>aswitchsetup.cmd

ASwitch makes your USB ports act like a headphone jack.
It switches audio output from your built-in sound system
to your USB headphones or speakers whenever you plug them
in, and restores the default as soon as you unplug them.

Would you like to install ASwitch? [y/n] n

Untested here, actually I thought it also enabled USB microphone
Sometime back I had a USB turntable that presented itself as an USB microphone which did work without any setup

Thinking out loud - I assume the Thinkpad T470s has a built-in mic - I guess I could try test with that....

Hi Jan-Erik
The new build(s) of UniAud show more and more of the built in sound card (ATI HDA, ALC888) functionality with unimix.
I'd like to use the now enabled/recognized Mic in and/or Line in, but "Digital Audio" recorder and the os2tk45 "Audio Recorder Sample" and "Direct Audio" samples either stall the computer or the application. VoiceType therefore can't enable input.

To be honest - I don't know if the inputs work on any versions of Uniaud - it would be good to hear from anyone if they used to work.

It may also be that Uniaud needs to be 'taught' how to connect the MMPM inputs to the appropriate ALSA/Uniaud inputs...

I'll try do some research on this topic.

Edit: a couple of old bug reports.... https://trac.netlabs.org/uniaud/ticket/224 and https://trac.netlabs.org/uniaud/ticket/97 indicate these problems have been around for a while

Edit2: uniaud readme talks about using the /m switch to enable mic input - are you using this?
Code: [Select]
DEVICE=x:\MMOS2\UNIAUD16.SYS /V /C /M /L
  - /V - Verbose
  - /C - Enable CD output
  - /M - Enable Microphone output
  - /L - Enable Line-In output
Default: /C ((verbose messages; CD output enabled)

Cheers,

Paul

Hey Ian,
I'm hoping that I will have a house to move into in the coming months, then I can unpack my stuff in storage and start using OS/2 again and be a bit more helpful :)
Either that or I'm going to start driving around Australia again!

Where abouts are you these days? still in WA? Thanks again for os2site - I was chasing down a copy of ndcrypt and the link at ecomstation.ru was borked - but sure enough os2site had a copy :)

Cheers,

Paul

Separate to the above post, I also updated the uniaud32-next branch to the 5.15.70 code - builds at https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.15.70-20220924.zip

Hey All,

I just stumbled across https://www.os2world.com/forum/index.php?topic=2436.75;msg=26471 - specifically the message from Andy...

Seems I missed this message and didn't back out the code he suggested.

On a whim... please try https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-3.9-20220924.zip and see if it changes anything....

Meanwhile, I'm also interested in the results of setting auto-mute to 0.

Wondering if there is any feedback from users running HDA hardware on differences (good or bad), between:
https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.19.9-20220924.zip
&
https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.19.9-20220918.zip

The difference is the 0924 build has the patch that @Andy Willis suggested removing two years ago removed. I haven't committed the change yet, pending feedback.

Cheers,

Paul

Sorry for the long delay here.... I found the cause of the SIGILL - I believe this should be fixed in https://smedley.id.au/tmp/squid-5.3-os2-20220924.zip

Simply put, the configure script for squid tries to use 'native' cpu optimisation - which overrode my normal defaults.

PS the kerberos dependency should be gone too.

...for Hyperfire with the driver from 3.9.11.... something like:
unimix -id19 -val0=0

19 is the control number for auto-mute from 'unimix -list'
