Internet / Re: Dooble works fine but does have some flaws

Look at https://trac.netlabs.org/qt4 and scroll down to the section Latest Version. There you will see "Qt4 4.7.3 SSL Fix" mentioned, with a downloadlink to
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/qtapps/QtNet4_Fix_SSL.zip
I did it but had no effect. Still unable to open https-sites.
Refer to the post from Andreas Schnellbacher (above), who reported the same behaviour. I repeat what he was commenting: "strange" ...

Code: [Select]
21.11.14 14.22        897.991      0 a---  QtNet4.dllIs this the correct version? Still almost 8 years old?

It's a pity because Dooble seems to be a nice browser, fast and straightforward (as far as I can tell from non-SSL-sites, which have beome very rare today).

That's based on Qt4 isn't it?
yes, it is.

There's a SSL related Qt4 update at netlabs's QT4 page which is currently not loading, that should fix the HTTPS issue.
All that I could find at ftp.netlabs.org or www.netlabs.org is of date 2013 or older. There is nothing younger than that already on my machine.

Is there any other source for download the latest QT4?

Thanks,
Lutz W.

Internet / Dooble works fine but does have some flaws
« on: April 04, 2022, 05:24:40 pm »
Hi,
I installed the Dooble-browser 1.53 on my ArcaOS 5.05 system. The browser seems to work fine, but actually can't access https-sites.
What I get is this:
Code: [Select]
Load Error
Dooble cannot establish a secure connection to xxxxxx.com.
Please visit the Allowed SSL Ciphers panel and review your selections.

Though I edited this "Allowed SSL Cipher panel" to deactivate all "negates" I can't reach not one https-site.

Another issue is video. Any embedded mpg-file (or mp4) is treated as downloadable content, not as a video to be played.

I know the version 1.53 is quite outdated and there is no newer one. Nevertheless I hope that there might be a workaround for these problems.

Thanks,
Lutz W.

Applications / Re: FreeRDP - we have options!!!
« on: June 15, 2021, 12:33:53 pm »
With FreeRDP you can certainly be a single-click away from having access to a Firefox 'whatever version' you need ... locally on your OS/2 WPS literally as if it was just another PM window.
That's exactly what I'm dreaming of. So I installed the FreeRDP-package, and it works fine on my patched Windows-7-home-PC.

BUT not in application-program-mode.

What I did: I generated a second WPS-object, exactly like the first (working) one, with the only modification being the "Remote App"-tab. I specified path and filename of the firefox-exe on that Win7-PC.

To check this path and filename I opened a Windows-commandline session (cmd.exe) and typed that path and filename into it. And yes, Firefox/Win started up.

But doing the same by means of my WPS-icon nothing happenes at all. No Firefox starting up, no error in the log file. For a fraction of a second the icon gets shaded, then nothing.

Do I have to meet some special prerequisites on that Win7-machine?

Thanks for any idea.

Networking / Re: Arcamapper (SAMBA) loses connection

Well, unfortunately, I can't reproduce it here with my Samba servers, so without logs, I can't fix it....
I just uploaded the log.ndpsmb in the Mantis Webpage.

But you do NOT need to disable EAs on your NAS box...what I was talking about in my above post was literally disabling the EAs support in your NetDrive/ArcaMapper connection setup....
Thank you Darius, that is good news. Because I can't find out how to disable EA-support on my NAS box  :-)

Quote from: Dariusz
The outcome of this approach is that only your OS/2 box does NOT see EAs on the NAS, even if that NAS supported EAs with whatever filesystem it's using.
Ok. The outcome of this approach in my case is that PMView no longer tears down the connection. But other problems still persist, e.g. doubleclicking on the Z:-drive icon in the Drives folder.

Do you have a ticket number on the AN Mantis? I'll see if I can find it.
Yes. The ID is 0003117

But I haven't continued to communicate there... didn't have the impression that there was being worked on with much interest .... sorry. My position is: Why ask me repeatedly for lots of debug info, when it is very easy to reproduce the problem on their own systems?

Well, back to the issue itself:

Yes, I was having the EA-option set to "YES" in my Arcamapper-share-specification. I now set it to "NO" - but that didn't help nothing at all. PMView continues to crash the connection immediatley, as well as opening the drive-object in the drives-folder.

Quote from: Dave Yeo
... [EAs] need to be turned on, forget exactly but IIRC, both in the kernel and in the EXT4 build as well as in /etc/fstab.
Does this mean, that for turning the EAs off it is neccessary to do this in the fstab-file as well?

Well, I don't have no fstab-file at all in my whole AOS-system. But I did find a file called smb.conf. I inserted the line "ea support = no" and here we go! PMView now works fine!

But still there is the problem with the WPS: Opening the Z:-drive-icon in the Drives-folder results in losing connection.

Nevertheless I still believe that the origin of all these problems is the EA-topic. 4kb (EXT4) vs. 64 kb (JFS).

Being a programmmer myself for 40 years I dare to say: That shoundn't be too hard to fix ...

Thanks so far,
Lutz Wagner

Hi Dave,

One problem that you are likely encountering is that your NAS uses EXT4 for a file system.
Oops ... you're awfully right :-)

Quote from: Dave Yeo
The problem with EXT4 is weak EA (extended attributes, xattrs in Linux speak) support, maximum size of 4kbs (OS/2 usually supports 64 kb) and need to be turned on, forget exactly but IIRC, both in the kernel and in the EXT4 build as well as in /etc/fstab.
That indeed seems very much likely to me.
Though I myself don't use the EAs it is probably inevitable to get involved into the EA-matter by some programs or the OS/2-system by itself.

Quote from: Dave Yeo
So while your NAS will work fine for straight files, things like the desktop and various programs need EAs and may (will in some cases) fail.
Exactly!

Quote from: Dave Yeo
For backup purposes, zipping things up is one way to preserve the EAs.
This not a solution in my case not at all. I have moved some applications (their data) from my ArcaOS-home to the NAS, i.e. these data are being worked upon permanently.

The manufacturer of my NAS (QNap) offers as an option the filesystem exFAT (will cost some money). Can you tell me if there are the same constraints regarding the xattrs as in EXT4? (I didn't find any info in the Wikis :-(( )

Thanks a lot,
Lutz W.

Networking / Arcamapper (SAMBA) loses connection
« on: May 27, 2021, 02:19:13 pm »
Hi,

I wonder if anybody here ist using Arcamapper to connect to a Qnap-NAS (or other brand of NAS).

I have a Qnap TS-251D connected to my ArcaOS 5.0.4-system, with arcamapper.exe serving as a SAMBA-client to that NAS.
Arcamaper version of May 30, 2020.

Basically it works fine. I map the NAS to a local drive letter Z: on my AOS-machine (Z: having lots of subdirectories with hundreds of thousands of files). But in some circumstances I find the connection lost.

E.g. I cannot use PMView at all to view my image files on that Z:drive.  One single image can be opened, but when I start to browse through the files in that directory the Z: goes away. Same with PMFax.

Same happenes if I try to open the Z:-icon in the drives-folder

The only secure way to operate on Z:-objects seems to be from the commandline (dir, copy, delete).

I reported the problem some weeks ago to ArcaNoae, but up to now I got no satisfactory reply.

What I would like to know: Is there anybody with a similar configuration (AOS 5.0.x and a NAS attached by Arcamapper) who does *not* have the problems as descried above?

Thanks,
Lutz W.

Applications / Re: mplayer - how to position the playback window?
« on: March 07, 2021, 02:18:34 pm »
I have had the same problem with my own video app, using mplayer as the executive program for playing the video, which comes up in its own PM-window.
To let the mplayer-window show up on my desired place I am using the commandline-tool PGMCNTRL (by Christian Langanke). This tool lets you identify any running exe and set its x,y-position to what you like. It works fine.

I once got it from Hobbes (where I can't find it no more :-( ).
