Latest screensaver at ftp://dry@ftp.os2voice.org/dssaver_v25_19_02_2024.exe, password your email address.
This has a bunch of various fixes, thanks to Rich for many and Alfredo for help updates and help with the wic.
Hopefully close to done besides more translations.
You may want to adjust the Desktop Properties size to look better, best to do it with the Modules tab open.

I notice that the environment tab in some properties notebooks does not seem to honour the text size.
Same with the Objects and Schedule tabs.

I've used Resmgr (from Hobbes) in the past - too long ago to recall any details.

On AOS, should be installed in X:\sys\bin so on your path.
Code: [Select]
H:\tmp>resmgr

Applications / Re: Test build of dooble with qt5
« on: February 13, 2024, 03:53:45 am »
Dave,

Well, it kinda works here (I think) only if the jar file is on my unixroot drive. But all it does is display the contents - if I click on any file displayed nothing happens. What exactly is it supposed to do?

Basically display the contents. See the release notes under help for a link to the discussion.
There's a problem with drive letters, I think in our Qt ports, both 5 and 6.

Quote
One weird thing: I get a new 'dooble_settings.db' file in the root of my boot drive with this version. Never had that before...

So there is, didn't notice before. Last one in my profile is dated 12/02/24 so something changed around then. I'll have to investigate.

They're for testing the new support for jar files. Never could get it to work here. I think our Qt ports need more file system support.

Your email address is the usual one. Some use a fake address.

Setup & Installation / Re: CUPS tripped up SeaMonkey and Firefox
« on: February 10, 2024, 02:26:43 am »
Hi beregond, Dariusz may be on to something, directly editing the ini files to remove a printer driver is not for the inexperienced or even most experienced. There is a program floating around that will remove printer drivers whose name escapes me right now. I haven't had a printer in years.
Hopefully Alex or perhaps Rich may show up with some other ideas along this line.
For now, lets see if we can fix Firefox/SeaMonkey ((FF or SM).
Have you tried starting FF or SM in safe mode? If not, go to Programs-->Installed Software-->Firefox/SeaMonkey (the procedure is the same for both, we'll use FF) and click on the Firefox Safe Mode icon. Hopefully Firefox comes up. Press CTRL-P and in the printing dialog box, change your printer to no printer or IBMNULL, close the browser and retry. If it works, repeat with SeaMonkey.
If it doesn't work, report how far along you got, we may have to edit your prefs.js file.
Of course the simplest is if you have a backup from before you played with printing, if so if so, let me know and I'll explain how to replace prefs.js
BTW, if you don't care about your Firefox profile, you can refresh it. Not recommended unless you don't mind losing all your bookmarks, settings and history.

Usually that error is caused by a missing DLL. If all you did was set up a printer and print, it seems weird.
What version of ArcaOS are you using? Have you kept the packages up to date? Double check popuplog.os2 in the root of your boot drive for failures.
Hopefully someone who uses Cups can chime in.

Hi Craig, it is a known issue that OATH2 is somewhat broken in the way you found with Google.
Workaround that I use is using a token, see https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833.
Not sure about Yahoo as I haven't tried it but it shouldn't crash. Can you post where you found the settings or the settings you tried, port encryption type etc and if you look in \var\logs\apps there should be a trp report, double check it for personal info like your password or email in one of the memory dumps, which you can scrub and then post it.

Try 'net rpc user -d 10 2>&1 | tee net_rpc_user.log' to capture all the output.

Programming / Re: ArcaOS - Recreate a complete build environment?
« on: February 05, 2024, 04:52:26 pm »
libc-devel
libcx-devel
kbuild-make
autotools (autoconf, automake, libtool, m4)
bison
flex
groff
lxlite
nasm
patch (careful about the one in \os2)
pthread-devel
sed
watcom-wrc
watcom-wipf
Various devel packages as required
Should be a good start along with what you listed.
Really most of this stuff should be in a meta package along with whatever I forgot.
Need at least some of this in your environment too,
Code: [Select]
SET SHELL=sh.exe
SET EMXSHELL=sh.exe
SET CONFIG_SHELL=sh.exe
SET MAKESHELL=sh.exe
SET EXECSHELL=sh.exe

Hi Andreas, I'd suggest setting up a local repository to work around the local files thing.
Install createrepo_c and createrepo_c-libs rpm's.
Create your directory, I'm using k:\rpm.local, underneath create 00  (zero zero) and under that create these,
Code: [Select]
K:\rpm.local\00>ls
i386  i686  noarch  pentium4  src

You probably don't need src.
Copy your RPM's to the correct directories.
Run "createrepo_c -d ." in the top directory, k:\rpm.local in my case.
In @unixroot\etc\yum\repos.d, create a file such as LOCAL.REPO containing something like,
Code: [Select]
[local]
name=My local repo
baseurl=file:k%3A/rpm.local
enabled=1
May have to add it to ANPM under Manage-->Repositories.
Use ANPM to install etc.
Don't forget to run the "createrepo_c -d ." whenever you add/remove any RPM's. Might also want to cleanup any repodata.old.XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX directories
Hopefully I remembered all steps.

About GPT. It is slightly slower due to the filter. It allows partitions that are aligned correctly, this is important for SSD's etc that use 4KB sectors as ideally the devices sectors and file systems (JFS) should align. Not only somewhat faster but in the case of SSD's, cuts down on wear. Write a one byte file and 4KB gets written. If sectors are not aligned, 8KB actually gets written with house keeping and garbage collection happening twice as often.
With GPT, you can use other partitioning tools and at the worse, have to go back and reassign the drive letter.
You can only boot GPT with UEFI, and you will have to add the GPT filter to older installs to rad the GPT disks
Personally, I have my 1TB NVMe device partitioned GPT with ArcaOS 5.1, a big data partition and Linux on it and my older half a TB SSD partitioned MBR with legacy installs. rEFInd allows me to boot to which ever I choose, with airboot on the MBR device then chain loading.
Edit: ESP is also on the 1TB NVMe device. I did have one on the regular MBR SSD device, which I added to the system after installing 5.1, things got confusing until I wiped that partition. As you found, hiding it is not good enough.

The trick with Dooble is to mark as many DLLs that it uses to load high as possible. Also the profile can get corrupt after crashes and hangs so needs to be wiped out. Good trick is to save a copy of the profile after some personalizing, before a crash and use that to replace it if it gets corrupt.
Helps a lot to have the blocklists etc installed as well, a lot of problems come with ads and the JavaScript they use.
