Games / Re: OS/2 - ArcaOS - Native Games

Hi Dave,
Has anyone looked at how hard it would be to add USB Joystick support to SDL? I know next to nothing about it except a little experience with old style joysticks.
Seems basic support would be 2 axis and 2 button support, for many games even joypad support where a couple of buttons and the axis is basically binary or trinary, would be nice.
I ask because I recently revisited Rocks'N'Diamonds (our SDL mixer needs mod support), which reminded me how much more fun it was to play with a joypad rather then the keyboard.

I haven't looked into it at all, but I'd assume any support would use libusb (which we have) so surely it wouldn't be that difficult.

Cheers,

Paul.

Well I got sound. It is loud and the system is irradic. Mouse is very slow. PMMix is slow but comes up. I wil have to play with it but sound and no crash.

OK cool - I'll try and check my patches this evening - it's possible I screwed something up when reworking some code that wouldn't compile with openwatcom...

I will give them a try. Maybe tomorrow too much to do today.
Let me know - after a sleep, I think I know how to fix some of the hacks that were in yesterday's build. I'll try and address those this evening.

OK https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.10.50-20210721.zip should properly support ca0132 hardware

https://uniaud32-linux-5.10.50-20210720.zip *might* allow the ca_0132 to work - there are still a few hacks - but an alsahlp$ from it might be interesting...

Hi Guys,

Well stil not crashes but no sound and unimix no longer wil even come up.
Can you confirm the pci.exe report of your mainboard? On an older post you said it is a "Gigabyte MB with a Sound Blaster Recon chip", but can you please post the PCI report  and mainboard model?

Please also provide this log "copy alsahlp$ alsalog.txt".

From a quick google, a Sound Blaster Recon sounds like a ca0132 chipset - this chipset isn't currently enabled in the uniaud code.

Cheers,

Paul

Linux sound code updated to 5.10.50 level - https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-5.10.50-202107179.zip

Pretty minor code changes for Realtek HDA hardware, and Intel AC97 hardware.

Applications / Re: FeatherPad for OS/2

Thanks, installed fine with the folder on the desktop.
One problem I see, with both versions, is that it seems to keep one core busy, sometimes spread out to all 4 cores being partially busy. Hate to run it with only one core and even like this, don't want to leave it open. Perhaps only my system with this?

Assuming that other Qt5 apps run ok? There were issues with one of the DLLs from the 2019 release causing excessive CPU usage.....

Hmm, hearts seems to do the same. This is with all the QT5 dlls from netlabs-rel

From the gImageReader thread - https://github.com/bitwiseworks/qtbase-os2/issues/121 has the fix to QtCore5.dll

Why this hasn't been pushed out as a fix to netlabs-rel is beyond me....

Cheers,

Paul

Hey all,

To me it is quite obvious that Roderick is spending a lot of time trying to make people
donate to BWW. Thanks to his reminders I have donated a few times and will do so again today.

I've been trying not to interject into this thread, but I have to get this off my chest.

I for one am a little tired of the constant calls for sponsorship of bww - and the non-mention of other folks who continue to put effort into OS/2 development.

There are many other developers listed at https://www.arcanoae.com/product-category/support-sponsoring/ who also a great job - some of the projects aren't as 'sexy' as a web browser, but they're still worthwhile supporting.

For example - KO's ports of VLC - being able to play videos is a pretty fundamental requirement of any OS these days; Tellie's ports of various Qt utilities.

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi Eugene,

Not working on my Gigabyte MB with a Sound Blaster Recon chip. My old laptop is gone.

Did older builds work? If the did, I'd like to see a log - but I do know there is at least one chipset used by Creative/Sound Blaster that is not currently enabled in the Uniaud code (as it won't compile).

Can you post the PCI IDs here?

Cheers,

Paul.

Well, unfortunately, I can't reproduce it here with my Samba servers, so without logs, I can't fix it....
I just uploaded the log.ndpsmb in the Mantis Webpage.
Yep I just responded there - you're not using the AN supplied Samba - you're running Samba client 2.2.0 build Beta4-20140226 based on 3.5.22-eCS 1.2.0-848

Do you have a ticket number on the AN Mantis? I'll see if I can find it.
Yes. The ID is 0003117

But I haven't continued to communicate there... didn't have the impression that there was being worked on with much interest .... sorry. My position is: Why ask me repeatedly for lots of debug info, when it is very easy to reproduce the problem on their own systems?
