Applications / Symlink?
« on: January 19, 2021, 08:43:41 pm »
Greetings,

I apologize I’ve been asking a lot of questions lately, I really do try and seek out information on my own! So in arca can I create symlinks? The reason I ask, is for instance I installed openssh and it installed in mptn/etc/ssh but when you go to use it it’s looking in etc/ssh? So in order to get it to work one must copy everything over to etc/ssh? I guess I have two questions, the symlink and why do things install that way? I must just be missing the logic behind that, but it’s been 20 or so years since I had any os2 chops!

Thanks fo your input

Rick

Greetings,

I have a question along these lines.. seems lately every time I open anpm I am prompted for my credentials for the subscription repositories, it didn’t used to do this it stored them when I added the repository? Any idea on how to repair this? It’s not the end of the world but is annoying

Applications / Re: XFree86-OS/2
« on: January 18, 2021, 09:53:12 pm »
Hi Sean

I already have XFree86-OS/2 installed and running with Dave's script. It runs the basic GUI (X Window Server?) like the picture I attached.

I'm getting right now PMX and checking the readme to see if I understand how to make it work.

My goal will be to start with the XFree86-OS/2 games to take some screenshots for the gaming site.

Regards

I have been trying to get this going as well.. you mention a script was this to aid in install or running it or both? Can you share the script you used?

Thankyou

Rick

Greetings,

It turns out you can make ssh users in order to remote in.. you must have a user dir under home, and a .ssh dir inside of that. Then from a command line user -a username and follow the prompts and voila bobs your uncle you have a new ssh user!

Thanks

Greetings,

Ok so I feel dumb asking this but I have literally searched everywhere for the answer.. during my new install of arca I set user name but never got asked for a password for said user.. I only want it so I can ssh into that user. I can ssh into machine as root with password of root (also would like to know how to change that) but would rather ssh in as my user.  I’ve tried every command line sequence to set a password that I can think of..  been at this for many hours unfortunately any help appreciated I am sure I have overlooked it somewhere..

Setup & Installation / Arca media options
« on: January 12, 2021, 08:53:02 am »
Greetings,

I want to install arca on an old Fuji laptop that I think would be a good little machine for it.  Here’s the rub, it only has a cd not dvd drive, and the bios will not see usb 1.1 ports at boot.. do I have any options that you might suggest? Can I make multiple CD’s somehow or the install media? Is there a NetBoot cd option and install from network? Maybe make a small partition on HD a make shift boot image?

Any suggestions appreciated

Regards,

Rick

Programming / Re: Compile under arca
« on: November 25, 2020, 05:13:40 am »
If you have done it in Linux, odds are it should compile with GCC on OS/2.
You have to use ANPM to install the build environment. Unluckily there is no meta-package so you have to install all of the build environment piece by piece using ANPM (or YUM on the cmd line).
To start, install GCC and its dependencies. Libc-devel, libcx-devel, various *nix utilities such as flex, bison etc, kbuild-make for make. Likely the autotools such as autoconf, libtool and such.

I got most of this installed on arca no problem...

Building on OS/2 isn't too different then building on Linux, assuming the source is portable.
Gotchas include, having to rebuild the autotools stuff so configure etc knows about OS/2. Usually with
Code: [Select]
sh x:/usr/bin/autreconf -fis
Replacing x: with your @UNIXROOT, likely your boot volume.

Are you tips meant for me to try and build this on Linux?

Other Gotchas is needing LDFLAGS=-Zomf to get the right object format and use the system linker and allow debugging with -g (don't forget to install gcc-wlink) often linking with -lcx as libcx is some libc extensions and various others I'm sure I'm forgetting.
Best is once you get the above installed, ask here for advice if you run into problems. I have no idea how experienced you are at porting or how well Lore bbs supports OS/2 out of the box. OS/2 is DOSish, needs files opened in binary mode and things like that.

Lora actually has a native build of os2 version, the problem being is developer long gone so installing the binary fails because it wants a reg code that can no longer be obtained. So someone I assume the developer released src that requires no reg.  My build skills are limited but I have been reading and trying, trouble is I do not know what I am looking at for os2 build files. So far the error I can’t get past as of yet is system reports cannot locate Ld.exe. Another thing I thought of is maybe I do not have good src. If you have knowledge of this maybe take a look and let me know if I’m wasting my time? GitHub.com/maccasoft/lora3
Good luck and keep us posted.

Has anyone successfully got ray gwinns virtual drivers to work on arca? I’ve installed it no issues but cannot figure out how to get bbs to listen for incoming telnet.. vmodem shows comm ports no option to set say port 23 for telnet?

Anyone try and have luck with this?

Applications / Re: Arca / proxmox
« on: September 20, 2020, 07:42:25 am »
Greetings,

I had done the default suggestions, I have other vms on there that work just fine.. I know on arca website it has directions for VMware install and explicitly says to delete scsi controller in esxi setup.. I have installed arcaos on esxi and virtual box without issue or any real tweaking.  In proxmox I figured I would try to replicate the settings I used in esxi however I could not find a way in proxmox to remove scsi controller for instance. Have you run arca on proxmox successfully?

Hope you are all safe and well!

Does anyone know how to get Arca to actually fill the screen on VMware? If I set to higher res I get a screen that scrolls, but in full screen it only fills the middle of the screen. Curious if anyone has found a way around this..

Setup & Installation / OS2BOOT can not be found?
« on: July 15, 2020, 05:29:15 am »
Greetings,

So I went to reinstall Arca on my esxi server and decided not to use the dvd. I wanted to just use the .iso and it made it all the way through past selecting what to install naming the machine etc. then it hung and gave a OS2BOOT cannot be found and won’t pass that, even if I ctl alt del. I know it runs, perfectly in fact on esxi, just won’t install by iso or usb

Any ideas?
