General Discussion / EDM/2 Wiki Issue
« on: July 17, 2024, 05:06:22 pm »
Hello

FYI: There is an issue with the EDM/2 wiki servers according to Adrian (Netlabs), it seems to be a memory issue with the server.

I'm chatting with Adrian via X (Twitter)

Let's hope he can fix it soon.

Applications / Experiment: Moving OS/2 Graphic/MM Resources
« on: July 12, 2024, 04:58:47 pm »
Hello

I want to make a little experiment of moving the graphics resources like BMPs, Pointers, ScreenSavers to a different folder structure. This is just an experiment to for me try it out and document things on the wiki.

I'm looking forward to see what problems gives me ArcaOS-OS/2 and see if a workaround can be found. I will be asking for help here and you are welcome to try it yourself too, but remember I'm not pointing a gun for everybody to try it out.

I want to start with Pointers. I want to move C:\OS2\POINTERS to C:\RESOURCES\POINTERS as part of the experiment. My first issue is that the "Load Set" on the "Pointers" settings will break up. Is this locations stored somewhere on an INI file that can be updated to the new path?

Hardware / F Keys Altenartives on OS/2 - ArcaOS
« on: June 22, 2024, 03:33:56 pm »
Hello

Some modern PCs keyboards and laptops are suffering of a lack of F keys. Sometimes they replaced with hardware functionality (with an special Fn key) and sometimes they are just gone. Independently if we like it or not, and knowing that there is always a work around to get a full key keyboard, I was wondering if there should be some alternative for the F keys in OS/2.

I this list of shortcuts we have in ArcaOS for reference. (Any other thing to add there is welcome)

As a brainstorm question.
- Should we have additional alternatives to the "Alt + Funtions Keys" in OS/2?
- Did someone find some workaround for this kind of keyboards?

Hello

I was refereed to this video on YouTube: DIY FPGA based Mixing Console with OS/2 GUI - and more

If I don't get it wrong, He created an audio mixing console based on the Arduino Vidor 4000 FPGA board, and created the GUI app to control it on OS/2 (Warp 3). I need to watch the full video with more detail.

Programming / Compiling PM Samples with OpenWatcom
« on: June 10, 2024, 03:16:58 am »
Hello

I want to learn to use a the OpenWatcom compiler as an alternative to gcc for some PM samples, but I need to understand the commands and have some example of the make file.

My desire is to compile some thing simple like: https://github.com/OS2World/UTIL-WPS-Scale
I have installed OpenWatcom C for OS/2 v2.0.x  offered from the David Azarewicz website. I'm using make and wlink too.

Please give me hand with the makefile, should I make a makefile.wcc ?

Applications / Bochs 2.2.6 for OS/2
« on: June 04, 2024, 09:30:26 pm »
Hello

This weekend I was playing around with some old OS/2 software and tried to run Bochs under OS/2.

But that version of Bochs was ported some time ago and it uses some renamed libc DLL.

Is there a change for someone to help to recompile Bochs with the newer libraries? Or maybe try of Bochs version 2.8 can compile under OS/2-ArcaOS?

General Discussion / Chuck McKinnis Passed Away
« on: May 19, 2024, 07:13:10 pm »
Dear Community Friends

Yesterday I found this news at his Facebook page. There were two posts from his daughters Kelly McKinnis  and Kimberly McKinnis. Even that I was not able to find an online obituary yet, I'm calculating he passed away on May 17.

I met Chuck on a couple of Warpstocks on the past and he was a nice and funny guy. He will be missed.

If you don't know who Chuck was, I have a little profile about him on the OS2World Wiki pages.
Here are some Chuck pictures from Warpstock: https://photos.app.goo.gl/jwLrQSTXADD4qEJC7

Rest in peace Chuck.

Programming / Development Help with INF2Html
« on: May 12, 2024, 06:46:48 pm »
Hello

I need some help with Inf2Html. There is an issue while transforming to HTML some borderless tables (I guess).
I have the issue documented here: https://github.com/OS2World/UTIL-CONV-Inf2HTML/issues/1

Since this is an open source command line tool, I don't know if someone with development skills can please help with this issue, if it is easy to find out.

General Discussion / smp.inf - Adendum
« on: May 08, 2024, 02:13:46 pm »
Hello

Just checking a little bit on the EDM/2 for dead links, I found there is a "SMP Programming Addendum" (smp.inf) (Nov 1996), that I can not find the file.
Any idea where was it shipped? or any link to it?

I guess this should not be confused with "OS/2 for SMP V2.11 Reference" (also SMP.INF - First Edition (June 1994) ). Those are different files with the same name, right?

General Discussion / OS/2 History Newsletters
« on: April 29, 2024, 06:09:42 pm »
Hello

I had been doing some light reorganization on the HobbesArchive on the OS/2 Newsletters:
And it is taking me some time, because some times I get hooked reading those.

Just in case someone wants to help, If you see some newsletter missing on Hobbes, let me know to also include it there.

Programming / OpenDOC - Source Code
« on: April 27, 2024, 06:36:44 pm »
Hello.

There source code of OpenDOC released to the public with the intentions to be preserved.

I have zero experience with OpenDOC, as far as I know it was a framework created by Apple and with IBM and Microsoft they tried to turn it into a standard. I think it was close source and was discontinued on 1997.

I can not even list (or remember) one software that was created with OpenDOC on any of the platforms (OS/2, MacOS 7, Windows, or AIX). I guess all software created with OpenDOC was close source, so we can not even think on bringing some of that old software and port it to OS/2 today.

But on the bright side, I think it is interesting to keep releasing the source code of old software to the public for learning purposes or even some inspiration for something new.

If someone wants to chitchat and give some some insights, personal comments, opinions, it appreciated.

Applications / RPM Repository: IBM OS/2 Toolkit.
« on: April 17, 2024, 12:16:01 am »
Hello

I know that some components of the IBM OS/2 Toolkit are already on the Netlabs RPM.
But I was wondering if the sc.exe compiler and nmake.exe can be included as "os2tk45" packages.

Or if David's repackage of the "IBM OS/2 Toolkit" has something updated/improved that can be of interest to be includes on the "os2tk45" packages. (https://88watts.net/dlfile.php?F=Os2Tk45-)

The dream is just to have run some "yum install" command have a complete IBM OS/2 Toolkit on your dev system.

Hello

Today I was playing a little bit with ArcaOS 5.1 on my Thinkpad T14s with the sound. I have Uniaud 3.1.3 here.

My issue is:
1) If I play a sound by double clicking it, and I'm an 100% volume. It sounds supposedly at 100%.
2) If I play the same sound from the "Sound" (XWPSound) settings on "Multimedia", and put the volume at 100% and press "Play" is sound a lot louder (like 30% more) than what was supposedly 100% by double clicking the wav file.
3) I'm comparing the sound and I think that 100% in the Master Volume (volume.exe), is the same as 70% on the XWPSound volume.

Can you please give it a try to see if that also happens to you? I'm attaching a screenshot to help you understand what I'm doing.

Any ideas why is this happening? The preference is to have the louder volume as 100% in all the ArcaOS system.

Applications / Windows Key - Custom Key Combination
« on: March 28, 2024, 03:14:41 pm »
Hello

I wanted to try to some keyboard combinations to do some actions on ArcaOS.

My goal, as a example, I want to make the "Win-Lef key + E" combination to open a folder on an specific location and show that folder on the desktop, like opening C:\TEMP.

First I tried on the "Folder Hotkeys" on the "Workplace Shell" settings. I can map the Win-Left key, but I can not add an extra key like  "Win-Lef key + E".
If I map "Win-Lef key" alone, it works for the functions, but I have to select a folder in the desktop, and it will open or close it. But it is not exactly what I'm looking for.

Then I tried the XWorkplace Keyboard settings on the "Functions Key" tab. But I don't understand how to use it yet. I don't know how to get a key combination there, and later how to use it.

And later I tried the "Keyboard - Windows Key" settings. The Windows Key also works there, but I don't have an option to open an specific folder.

Any ideas are appreciated to get my goal.

Regards
