Hi Sigurd.

I want to take your comment more like a "reality check" than "pessimism".

Please notice that in the past OS/2 had been very aggressively hit by the press. They always say "OS/2 is a superior product but...". Or what happens today, that we have no press at all (since we are a non-relevant platform).

Now, I don't care if someone write a positive article about eComStation. But we need to focus on the positive things about eComStation and fight/help/support/suggest/chip in for the stuff that is missing.  So, I don't think it is bad for us that someone write a positive article about eCS.

I'm glad that we are going to have a new eComStation release, I can put all the negative points on the table, I can still complain about the long term strategy, but today I'm glad that we are going to have a new release.

Thanks Melf for letting us know. I will try it.

Let's see if we can upload some eCS-OS2 screen videos on YouTube easily :)

You are right. I'm having the same issue.

The author released it as "AS IS" freeware and do not longer code it, so we are on our own.

But if you are happy with OpenWatcom, I recommend you to stay that way. It is better to use an open source IDE. I just wanted this software to be freeware to help anybody that has code made with this tool .

A few days ago Mensys processed my order and I was able to download it.

The software is on hobbes now.

About an eCS-OS2 hardware information website, I was tempted to build one some time ago but I quit since I didn't found a good way on how to build it.

I don't wanted to re-invent the wheel and do something from scratch (because it will cost more time to maintain it) , but try to use an open source software to create that kind of site. The issue is that it can be something very static (like and very custom build (like using a CMS like Joomla), or it can something too much flexible like a Wiki, and I wanted to have something in the middle.

I tried the Wiki approach and I think it was hard to make searches on it and I needed something more static to show the hardware lists by category.  Also, I wanted to lock the individual hardware pages to templates, and it was a little bit hard. On the other side I think it is a good idea to have a wiki style page on the "individual hardware page", so more information can be added by the community, and not like comments at the end of the page.

I even got authorization to use some of documentation. But at the end I stopped trying since it was too much work.

The OS2World wiki crashed with page, so also this is a reminder to me that I need to get it back.

If anybody wants to create a hardware information website I can collaborate, but I'm having fun this time with the EDM/2 wiki.

thanks for sharing. It is too bad for me that I don't understand German, but the video looks good.

Any luck?

Which active mailing lists on the web, about OS/2-eCS, do you know?

BayWarp MailList Lists: eCS ThinkPad T60/61 Mailing List, OS/2 Wireless Users Mailing List, Virtualized eCS Users Mailing List

eComStation Yahoo Group

GenMac netlabs mail group seems active too.
genmac-user(at)   (

Any other active related mailinglist/group/forum on the web?
How is the USEnet going? to be honest I don't check it much.

Would something like Lazarus will help with this kind of problems?

Sorry, I haven't tried it yet on Firefox OS/2.

Applications / VisPro C++
« on: January 29, 2013, 05:11:46 pm »

I'm trying to get VisPro C++ V3.01 so I can upload it to hobbes. I got Dave Hock permission last year to turn their software freeware (AS IS).

I tried to get it from Mensys. since they have it for free.
But I can not pass the payment option. It seems that you can not pay US$0 with Paypal :)

Can anybody help me to get it, and/or upload it to hobbes?

Applications / Why Firefox for eCS-OS2 didn't went up from version 10?
« on: January 19, 2013, 11:45:18 pm »

I have this question since I didn't followed the mozilla OS/2 port forum/newgroups.

What was the technical limitation because the Firefox ports didn't went from version 10 to 11 and follow on?

Maybe it will be interesting to know which are the hardware specs (mainboard/processor and Video card) that produce this display problem.
