Games / Re: DOS VDM - USB and Game port Gamepad support
« on: November 16, 2021, 10:27:35 pm »
1) In his ports, is the OS/2 DosBox code related to Input Devices still present? I noted in the .conf file for the ArcaOs inplementation a section exists under "Joysticks", but I'm sure would not work if we have no frontend USB Input driver under ArcaOS. Addressing your comment, if it is already there, NFAR, which is why I suggested this may be a solution to the problem presented, related to DOS.
The contained dosbox.conf file is common for all OS. The first line says:
Code: [Select]
# This is the configuration file for DOSBox SVN. (Please use the latest version of DOSBox)Jochen has built it from the sources. Even the translated (and reencoded) files are recently pulled from the sources.

I was responsible for the packaging and (as a non-player) haven't tried much with the files itself. BTW: If you have something to add to the .conf or to README.OS2, I'm sure we could add it with no much effort. Patching the .conf with additions specially for OS/2 is possible.

Programming / Re: Rexx close cmd.exe
« on: November 12, 2021, 04:26:08 pm »
Add /c to cmd.exe and /min to start. See:

Code: [Select]
start view cmdref cmd
start view cmdref start

What should also work is to remove the leading 'address cmd'. Then the default COMSPEC is used to execute an enquoted line, either single or double quotes:

Code: [Select]
'start /min D:\GS\GS9.15\BIN\gsos2 -dQUIET -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -o d:\PDF\modified.pdf d:\PDF\ -f d:\PDF\source.pdf'

This starts an asynchronous process. To start a synchronous process, use 'call'. In many cases also 'call' can be omitted. Note that cmd's call is different from the REXX call statement:

Code: [Select]
'call D:\GS\GS9.15\BIN\gsos2 -dQUIET -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -o d:\PDF\modified.pdf d:\PDF\ -f d:\PDF\source.pdf'

This mkisofs.exe does not appear to have -duplicatesonce as an option.
Maybe related: -makelinks sounds similar and is a recent option.

Programming / Re: QBASIC POKE IN REXX is possible?
« on: November 05, 2021, 10:20:54 pm »
Probably not. I don't really know that about Basic, but no REXX functions to write directly to memory (poke) or read from it (peek) come to my mind. Because I'm just at it: The E macro language for EPM, similar to REXX, has them.

Without creating a REXX DLL that provides them and if you limit it to common scripting languages, I would rather look at PERL etc. (without knowing if they exist there).

Code: [Select]
CMD displays short names on FAT. I would use another app. E.g. FM/2 can be configured to show the .LONGNAME EA in an additional row in details view: Config -> Settings notebook -> DirView -> Include in detail view. After changing this, restart FM/2.

And of course WPS' details view shows both title and real name.

Yes, 'M' stands for mega, 'k' for Kilo, but 'm' for milli. See

Dariusz, I would report bugs to the bug tracker.

Since Ulrich's page is not available anymore, the trac page seems to be the recommended one.

Setup & Installation / Re: YUM default platform setting
« on: October 31, 2021, 07:50:30 pm »
@Andreas, what problems are you having? AOO needs a downgraded libicu until it gets rebuilt and SM2.35 has problems with the updated NSPR4 and NSS I believe.
Do you need a rebuilt SM 2.35? I have one built with the intree NSPR4 and NSS.
Problems: SM2.35 shows empty pages for AOO as reported. The result of ANPM 'update all' had mixed architectures and shows many failures. (Haven't tried Poppler and AOO with that half-working system yet.)

Thanks for compiling SM (at all) and SM with NSS and NSPR4 updates. Looks from the reports like that fixes it. No, I don't need an extra version, thanks. Maybe it's better to wait until that will go public. Reports look promising.

The standard architecture has changed from i686 to pentium4.

Just wait a bit for issues caused by that. I suppose these will be fixed in the near future, apps will be recompiled and then AN 5.0.7 will be released.

Until then I would still keep the i686 line and avoid to update os2-base. It changes the file \etc\rpm\platform. Note that many people don't have problems with pentium4, but at least AOO and the old FF38 (SM2.35) have them.

Programming / Re: Function MACRO or #DEFINE?

Aren't macros defined with #define? I won't handle simple text replacements different from replacements that include a function call or have multiple lines.

Programming / Re: Passing env vars to an nmake process
« on: October 21, 2021, 09:53:18 am »
Thanks. Yes, these nmake projects (by Christian and Ulrich) are usually my source. All specials of xwlan are included in nepmd, too. This is (after much reading and trying) my first notable change of a makefile.

I've added changeset 4764 to implement the temp. file technique. Related are changesets 4757 and 4758.

Found a solution with a temporary file:

queryvar.cmd was changed to write DIR1=Value to STDOUT. Then I call

Code: [Select]
queryvar.cmd > tmpfile

tmpfile is then included within a pseudo target.

Because !include is expanded by the preprocessor, tmpfile must exist when the preprocessor runs the !include line. That is achieved by using

Code: [Select]
!if [queryvar.cmd > tmpfile]

All together:

Code: [Select]
!ifndef DIR1
! if [queryvar.cmd > tmpfile]
! endif
! include tmpfile
@echo DIR1 is defined after including tmpfile as: $(DIR1)

(It's heavily simplified compared to my original, hopefully I didn't break it.)

Any more ideas?

Programming / Passing env vars to an nmake process
« on: October 20, 2021, 01:09:32 pm »
I'm using IBM nmake. During processing of the main makefile, I would like to import values set by an external .cmd, let's name it queryvar.cmd. These vars should be used in pathnames to call e.g. an OS/2 copy command.

Code: [Select]
#  queryvar.cmd should set DIR1
   copy $(DIR1)\sub1\file.1 G:\

How can a value be passed from queryvar.cmd to the running nmake, so that it can be used as $(DIR1) in the example above?

It works well when setting env vars before calling nmake. But in this case nmake is already started. It won't matter for me if queryvar.cmd really sets env vars or just returns the value of one env var only.

Applications / Re: xWorplace - xCenter issue(s)

I use Andi's version as well, solely because of the changed shutdown delay. I don't have Turbo Folders activated. Ulrich's bug tracker is not available anymore, but there are some bugs with it.

Actually, you really do not want those extra features.
Good to have someone who knows what people have to want. ;-)

The "Add Widget to Tray" option is clearly missing from the popup menu.  You can see two lines in the menu where the option is supposed to be - but no option.
Yes the screenshots and the full term make that clear. BTW: That's not XCenter's context menu, but the tray's. Looks like a bug to me. I usually don't use the tray much, because I've two XCenters. BTW: Not all widgets can be placed in a tray.

The conclusion is at this point in time there is no easy way for AOS customers who want to run the lastest version of full xWorkPlace to get the removable media widget installed.
It seems to be much easier to me to extract the files from ANXWP_EN.WPI and copy them to the plugins\xcenter dir.

In such a case I run: wic <wpifullfilename> -x in the newly created dir <wpiname>. That unpacks all files, except the script file.
