Utilities / Insert text on pdf's
« on: June 03, 2019, 04:04:31 pm »
I need to insert text, actually the filename of the pdf, to lots of pdf's.
Does anyone know about a "OS/2-utilty" that can do this, preferably in batch mode?
(Attached a sample, 12345.pdf)

Programming / Rexx Socket / SMTP
« on: May 03, 2019, 04:07:06 pm »

I'd like to automate sending e-mails with a file attached from an application I've created with VX-Rexx.  Since I have no experience using Rexx Sockets I'd appreciate help/ sample of how to:
Initialize sockets
Log-in to smtp server
Attach file
Send message

Programming / Rexx function changestr
« on: April 04, 2019, 06:26:12 pm »
AFAIK the function "changestr" is not implemented in classic REXX, but seems to be supported by Object REXX.
Does anyone know about a library with this function for classic REXX, or a "workaround" to easily achieve what "changestr" does?

CHANGESTR(needle, haystack, newneedle)

This function was added by the ANSI-1996 standard. It replaces all occurrences of string needle in string haystack with string newneedle. Returns the haystack if needle is not found.

Examples --

changestr(‘x’,’abcx’,’d’) == abcd
changestr(‘x’,’abcc’,’d’) == abcc        /* needle was not found in haystack */

Internet / Couldn't resolve host
« on: May 05, 2018, 03:44:36 pm »

I have a rexx program that automates sending emails with attachments and it has worked perfectly for years.
All of a sudden it is not sending anymore and I found this error message in the log:
cURL error: 6 - Couldn't resolve host ''

This pc is set up using DNS and and Firefox works OK.

The one who normally uses this pc cannot remember changing anything.
Nothing has changed at the ISP and all login/host details are correct in the setup of the rexx program.

Ideas anyone?

Programming / SQL/DBExpert
« on: October 24, 2017, 10:09:17 pm »

Anyone who knows how to use "INSERT INTO" in a DBExpert macro?

Trying to achieve this:

SUM = 10000

The SUM I actually get from a form and I need the macro to run from this form.

(I've tried moving/adding/deleting " ( ",  " ) ", TOTAL and " ' " in all the positions I can think of but no success.)

Running INSERT in the query designer works, but there it gets the value to insert from a table like;

Ideas welcome,

Setup & Installation / Ghostscript error
« on: May 25, 2017, 01:08:03 am »

I have for years used PMPDF and GhostScript 9.04 (or earlier versions) and setting it up on various eCS system without any problems.
Now I just tried to make it work under ArcaOS, installing the same way as before, but get this error when trying to create a pdf:

Error in GhostScript processing, code:255 -

(I've not installed using yum/rpm and I have not set up any ecups on this system.)

Anyone else experienced this?

Programming / Vx-rexx container
« on: December 11, 2016, 09:14:29 pm »
I have a container object with several columns and I need to sum the values of one column for displaying the sum in
a field outside the container, each time a record is entered.

ok = VRMethod( "QRY_AVR", "MoveFirst" )
do while( ok = 1 )
    call VRMethod "QRY_AVR", "RowData", "data."
    str = ""
    do i = 1 to data.0
        str = str data.i
    say str
    ok = VRMethod( "QRY_AVR", "MoveNext" )

With 2 records the output of say is (from data.1 incl. data.7):

 555 1230 1111 TEST1 1.0  10500 35880
 555 1230 8951 TEST2 1.0  -3456 -8951

The last column, data.7, contains the numbers I need the sum of.
Now the problem is how to make the sum of data.7 and make it available for displaying in a field.

Ideas are welcome and appreciated.

Applications / OpenOffice and email

The settings for "E-mail program" in OpenOffice 4.1.1 points to seamonkey.exe (which is correct) but when sending a mail it opens Thunderbird,
anyone else seen this and know the solution?

General Discussion / Need some help with REXX
« on: August 30, 2016, 04:44:38 pm »

I've got some txt-files that I have to "manipulate" before importing them to a database, simple enough
for someone who knows REXX, but unfortunately I'm not (yet) one of those.
Does anyone know about a sample that reads a txt-file, does some manipulation to each line and
writes to a new txt-file? (I'm stuck with the "manipulation" part  :o )

The files are for business purposes and I can't go public with them, however, I can provide samples
if somone's interested. If so, please pm me.

Hardware / HP Color LaserJet MFP M477fdw
« on: July 27, 2016, 02:51:12 pm »
Just thought I'd inform that I got this printer to work with an old HP Color LaserJet 3700 ps-driver, incl. duplex,
using SLPR. This model seems to have lots of functions, not supported by the ps-driver, ie scanning to a network
folder. Will report more when I, hopefully, get it set up right.

Is anyone using this printer with eCS/OS2?
Print languages: HP PCL 6, HP PCL 5c, HP Postscript Level 3 emulation, PCLm, PDF, URF
Sounds promising but I'd appreciate comments.

Applications / DBExpert update multiple fields and records
« on: August 16, 2015, 03:22:41 pm »

DBExpert has a nice "query function" to update values of selected fields and records in a table but I'd like to run this procedure with a macro.
The table TRANS has many fields and records and I need to change the values of fields CPA, CPB, CPC and CPD for all the records.
Does anyone have a sample of how to do this?
