Applications / Re: Dooble: Websites / WebApps Testing
« on: April 26, 2022, 04:52:26 pm »
Downloaded the exp rpm and followed instructions.  It WORKS!!  I can run a lot of sites I couldn't do on FF and so far it's only crashed on the Wall St Journal.   It would be nice if the install instructions mentioned exactly how & which files should/could be loaded high.
But overall it's great for Arca users and I am so happy now  :) :) :)

After I installed the update my sound has died.  Any suggestions for how to get it back.  Is there an easy way to go back to prior version of XWP?

Very fast!  I've got a Ryzen and it's very fast.  No problems with CPU, just getting right speed on peripherals, Sound, etc.
Current ARCA very good though for install.

Setup & Installation / Re: Booting with NVMe - Success
« on: June 21, 2021, 05:59:18 pm »
I had a failure to boot on AS Rock AB350M-HDV Motherboard with NVME.  Got help from David Azarewicz and realized it was a BIOS issue.  I then switched to an ASUS Prime B450M-A motherboard and it boots fine, so the problem was just the original MB.
Thanks to Arca and David  Azarewicz for their great work.

Setup & Installation / Re: Booting with NVMe

Back to my original post, I got my NVME SSD installed and seen by Arca 5.  I did the install as directed in the 20 point wiki document and Arca installed the base files, and then when I rebooted to get the rest of the install, the NVME disk won't boot.  I get a message:
"2001: Boot sector read error" which is better than my first attempts, but still not great.
I can see the NVME disk and read data off it and even formated a data partition and can use it, but just can't get it to boot. Any further suggestions welcome.

I got the NVME drive on my AS Rock B-450 and installed the NVME, and using a USB drive installed Arca5.0.6 with the NVME.add in the Config.sys following the wiki directions.  If I boot from another SSD I can see the NVME boot drive and files, but when I try to boot it nothing happens.  The BIOS sees it, but I just get a "_"  flickering on the screen and nothing happens.
Any suggestions welcome.  I'm wondering if it's a bios setting, but since it's listed on the device list I have no other ideas, so any suggestions welcome.
Thanks
Matt

Thanks Miezko for the tip to fix my VLC\2 from crashing at the end of every mp4 video.  It locked up the whole computer and needed a reboot.  Now it works great.   Thanks again.

Hardware / Re: Cloning OS2 with different Motherboard
« on: November 25, 2020, 04:48:45 pm »
Due to differences in MB you are probably going to have to do a reinstall from the original disks as some of the drivers are different.  I have been able to do such a clone and reboot, but to similar MB.  One other thing you could try is to take the original physical boot drive and put it into the new MB and see if it boots.  HTH

My thoughts are that having an OS with no viruses, no weekly security updates and the ability to keep using my 20 year old bookkeeping program and my text email (instead of awful HTML ) at ever increasing speed with Ryzen CPU and Radeon video with USB-3  and gigabit network speed are fine for me.

Seems you are interested in e-mail so you could use your web browser to access it in some cases or a Thunderbird for OS/2 version is available or PM Mail is pretty up to date this year and does well as a text email program.  Current Spreadsheet available in Apache Open Office 4 .17 version for OS/2 from BitWise Works.  Hope you feel free to let us know if we can help.

Setup & Installation / Re: ArcaOS WinOS/2 printers?
« on: July 30, 2020, 10:22:41 pm »
With the newer Arca 5.0.5 CUPS printer install it's possible to install lots of specific printers, but they are then ARCA printers.  If you need to specifically boot Windows and use the printer that's a different issue.  So to help we need to know which program, which file format, which OS you want to boot, and exactly which printer you want to print to.  That data would help us give you some assistance.

Any idea how this interacts with a large RAM disk, and since you can't use the RAM disk in your swap path, would a smaller RAM disk work better with larger swap file?

Thanks. AOO now works again.   Only thing it installed this time vs several previous attempts was " libxslt " and I don't know how that didn't get put in before when I tried.  Appreciate the feedback.  I also donated a bit more to BitWise for the AOO project.
