 Finally got to try this and was able to quickly install on 3 different machines with full functionality: 1 laptop and 2 desktops of various age. I agree with Sigurd's list of Pros and Cons. The one con I would add is no multiple sound streams. Overall it is a good version of eCS and well worth trying out. Thanks Roderick and everyone at Mensys ... and Merry Christmas!

 Just tried this demo...

  On my desktop it works booting with defaults... all hardware is detected properly (including sound). The screen is properly detected (1680x1050) and USB works fine. I can browse the internet. The AHCI driver is loaded, but for some reason, none of my hard drives can be read, but maybe that is by design?

   On my laptop (Gateway 7405GX), I can never get the desktop to appear - it is always a blank screen using either Panorama (which I could never get to work with anyway) or SNAP (which does work when booted from hard disk - Radeon Mobility 9600). I tried every setting on the 'boot with own values' screens, but nothing ever works. Also, during boot, the NIC is detected (VIA Rhine II) but improperly setup - there is an error: 'IRQ not properly set'. This is known to happen with the SMP kernel if a parameter in protocol.ini is not properly set for high IRQ's (which I suspect is not being done because if I choose 'legacy hardware' during setup, this error does not appear). Also, my WiFi (Broadcom b/g) is not detected, even though there is a GENMAC driver for it (it IS detected when installing eCS 2.1). It seems it is not available in the list of NICs in the 'boot with own values' page....

Sigurd,

  Make sure you have XWorkplace, not eWorkplace installed. I think the split folder checkbox is only available in XWorkplace....

  Here are a couple things you could try:

-> disable Split view for the whole WPS

  Go to 'Local System'-> 'System Setup' -> 'XWorkplace Setup' -> Features' -> 'Folder Features' and un-check 'Folder Split Views'

-> getting back the Drive Letters in Folders object

  Not sure about this one... I think it is a residue of the PNG Desktop not properly de-installed. You could try:

 Go to 'Local System' -> 'System Setup' -> 'Appearance' -> 'Icon Themes' and apply the 'IBM Merlin' theme.

-> changing system wide the folders view from "Standard" to something else

Go to 'Local System' -> 'System Setup' -> 'Workplace Shell' -> 'Folder Views' and choose the view you like under 'Default Folder View'.

 Has anyone tried Lars' new USB drivers (USBHCD196)? I get freezing in a few seconds with that driver when using weblook/webview. Going back to 195 all is well. Anyone else see that?

Wim!

  Webview/Weblook works great here (Logitech C250)... even better than the apps that come with the driver. I can only use the 2 lowest res driver apps with my camera without freezing, but with weblook/webview I get full resolution and no freezing. What a blast...great job!

Alex... just add /S to the USBECD.SYS line. That turns off the beep, which indicates it is connecting to the camera.

 Got my Logitech C250 today and tried it out. I have the same result as Yuri reported: only 160x120 and 176X144 work. All other resolutions freeze in a second or two. I did get a Trap000d in USBEHCD a couple times as well when closing one of the working resolutions (wrote it down if it might be useful). I tried different /S:x settings on the BASEDEV=USBEHCD.SYS, but nothing helped (some hurt).

Wow! Thanks Wim and Sigurd for putting this together... I just ordered a Logitech C250 from Amazon ($19US) to try this out. It would be interesting to know how you set this up to stream video (if you do).

  I have OO3 installed and working fine (as good as it can). I am able to run AOO4 on this system, so I don't think having OO3 installed is an issue. Have you tried starting swriter.exe in a command window? Maybe you will get a message that gives a clue.

  I used YUM to install the requirements, maybe there is a discrepancy there? What zip package did you use for the required DLLs? I could look at that and compare to what is on my system...

Pete,

  In your situation, the first thing I would do is look for duplicate files on my system that may interfere with AOO. In case you don't already know, go to 'Local System'->'System Setup'->'OS/2 Kernel', then choose the 'System Paths' tab. Choose the path to check, then hit the 'Duplicates' button and you will get a list of duplicate files in the path chosen. Scrutinize those and see if maybe the 'wrong' one is earlier in the path. Temporarily rename any suspicious ones and see if it helps.

  Another thing to look for... do you have any other versions of OpenOffice on your system (including Star Office)? Maybe there is a signal getting crossed from one of them (registry entry, path entry, ini file entry, or start folder program)?

  Your error message is odd... it implies there is a 'program' directory under /OpenOffice4/Program somewhere. I don't see that here... maybe you set that up yourself? How did you install AOO?

Andy....

  After much screwing around I found that deleting the file: \OpenOffice4\OpenOffice\4\user\registrymodifications.xcu cures the problem. You have to enter personal info again next time it is started though...

  I made the mistake of opening 'Tools'->'Media Player' and now the media player will not close. This means that I can not close OpenOffice as long as the media player is open so I have to kill it every time. Next time I start it, the media player is also opened (in any module). Anyone know of a way to start without the media player? Maybe I'll just delete and re-install...
