Applications / Re: AVxCAT (v2 into test)
« on: February 28, 2023, 08:34:20 pm »

Latest build is installed.
May I suggest you following action please:
Rename AVxCAT.ini file from under C:\OS2 if you have it there (it should remain from V1) to AVxCAT.in_ and than, start AVxCAT again. If it works than redo the customization and send me your AVxCAT.in_ (older ini file) using my web site email link.
Regards

renamed AVXCAT.INI as indicated, no better change obtained, the further attempt to start the program just failed with same error described before.
After that, no other AVXCAT.INI has been created in the system. Anyway I posted the file attached to your email but am receiving back a notification of non-valid email address. Should I post it here?

1152 x 660 . It's a Virtualbox guest session window resized to fit inside my host window

What is this screen format ? Shouldn't it be 1152 x 864 ?
About my email address, please add a dot betweenn r and d

This isn't in the required screen size value but should work.
I just forced the screen size of virtualbox to your specification and than, I installed AVxCAT from the wpi and it well start ! not crash.

I found your problem, it is with rxutilex.dll, you don't have it into your libpath.
Your system is warp 4.5.2 (it differs from AN or eCS.
Please add the rxutilex.dll from under AVxCAT\Dlls and put it into a libpath and then, reboot you OS/2.
It should start

I'm going to check why it produces this error while it should not and add a correction and than update this post as soon it is corrected for this rxutilex.dll not loaded issue

If you have doubt about a file, use https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/url and test your suspected links or files.
It goes through many virus tools.

I just tried the fs_30500.zip link and all is ok !

About https://www.2rosenthals.com/
Only BitDefender and G-data found a malware where 88 other tools found nothing !

Hi!

From the drrexx dialog, it looks that an initial call (I suppose to a loaded proc from dll) couldn't be satisfied and then, you've got all lines displaied into this dialog.
Do you have the new dll provided by AVxCAT v2 or did ou left the older one ?
At which date did you download the package ?
Please, get the package again, no need to install the other zip file package (same level)
As well, what is the bldlevel of AVxCAT.exe ?

Thanks
Remy

Thanks for replying Remy. To begin again from a clean situation, I deinstalled the 1.5.4.1 version by WarpIn uninstaller routine.
Then I installed the wpi package
https://remydodin.levillage.org/doc/realisations/downloads/AVXCAT_S-2_0_0_1.wpi
You said no need to add-replace anything behind this, and it already gives the described issue when try to run it first time.
"Do you have the new dll provided by AVxCAT v2 or did ou left the older one " means I should separately provide-modify something after such installation? Maybe that could be the point.
As said previously, later this I also tried to copy both the avxcat_rep.zip content first, and then avxcat_new.zip content in the avxcat working directory (overwriting the same name files), each time attempting to run it again with no changes.

Hi Remy
I get this mistake when trying to start it.
REX0043: Error 43 running D:\AVXCAT\AVXCAT.EXE, line 17370: Routine not found
  1107 +++   Call _check_4GBdll_;
I understand that I am missing some DLL. This I can't find it.

Hi Roberto,

Please get avxcat (updated exe file) and give it a try.
(Found a case which could result into the problem you have - dll not fully loaded !)
  https://remydodin.levillage.org/doc/realisations/downloads/avxcat_rep.zip

Link refreshed (get the file again if already downloaded)

wpi updated too..

Hi Remy, I had the old avxcat 1.5.4.1 on my Virtualbox vm, warp 4.52 guest, well running.
After read the post about the latest v2 wpi package, I downloaded and replaced the previous version, and after that also placed the new avxcat.EXE (in C:\APPS\AVXCAT\) as described to correct the initial issue occourred to Roberto.
But no luck, it gives error warnings both in the initial installation and in the new executable running.
First appears an auto-scrolling drRex window -see avxcat 2 err 1.jpg image- getting to over line 22000 and then desappearing.
After that appears the system error message, see avxcat 2 err 2.jpg image.
Can you catch a cause for the issue by my indications or maybe there's a log I can retrive to be more specific?
Thank you

I found a problem in the voix that I built that is currently packaged with AVxCAT, I fixed and rebuilt it.

P.S.
Martin, I only just noticed the OS2World github of voix, I had made updates to it several years ago to be able to be used in AVxCAT, these are at:
https://github.com/abwillis/voix
if you are interested in pulling in the changes.

Thanks Andy  ;)

I updated both links (zip and wpi) with updated AVxCAT
PDF updated too.

For WPS into local codepage, rexxuni required

I used a very big file and stopped the process after 60s (may be 1/4s differences but as precise as possible)
How do you do the copy and cut it in a time? I have tried it with a zip, and when I cut it I have not copied only one part of the file.

With me with the USB stick, it happens to me, it is slower fat32 to jfs.
I am curious to do some proof as you comment.

The zip file has a size near 4GB.
Positionning into the right directory on both side.
Then, from/to issued prompt cmd :  copy filename to w:   or reverse  copy filename to y:
To stop, issued CTRL/C

The problem using a prompt cmd window is that messages are impacted by the video refresh, using one big file prevent copied message to be issued until the end of the copy.

As it is seen, the L:OFF / ON has a big impact on the write (it is for this) on FAT32

Copying files to or from my local network NAS is faster !

It only use of the next CALL statement.

I had dounbt about my previous tests due I had several processes running in background...
Now, I redo several test in read and write from/to SSD sata partitions (one into fat32, the other as jfs)

I used a very big file and stopped the process after 60s (may be 1/4s differences but as precise as possible)

In this kind of test, the L:OFF has a big impact but overall, the speed is very very slow for SSD's !
testing from JFS to JFS for one very big file results into nearly 98MB/s which is of course slow for an SSD able to speed up to 520M !
(Disk aligment may probably impact - isn't correctly done for SSD and may be trim need [not done since a few weeks])

I didn't test usb keys yest and I know it needs more time because as soon it warms up, speed will dramatically slowdown
I have a 1TB usb key with a speed nearly 500MB. Under windows, It will start nearly at this speed but after a few seconds, the speed start to drop up to a slow value about 6M ! (the key been warm and into speed regulation to protect it)

Did you try simply turning off lazywrite? The manual is in x:\sys\book where X: is your boot drive. As mentioned, cachef32 does the unicode conversion.
I have already tried it with the /L: OFF, and copying from the PC to the USB Stick is 3 seconds faster.
But copying from the USB Stick to the PC is 61 minutes, against 7 to 12 minutes.
That difference is a long time.
saludos

Hi Roberto,

On  your IFS, use a multiple of 64K for the cache value instead of 4k
|  IFS=C:\OS2\FAT32.IFS /cache:2000 /h /q /ac:* /largefiles                                      << 2000 not good
|  rem CALL=C:\OS2\CACHEF32.EXE /f /p:2 /m:50000 /b:250 /d:5000 /S

As multiple of 64k, use 1984 instead of 2000 and rem out the Call= which will not trap.
IFS=C:\OS2\FAT32.IFS /cache:1984 /h /q /ac:* /largefiles
CALL=C:\OS2\CACHEF32.EXE /f /p:2 /m:50000 /b:250 /d:5000 /S

How will PM123 display these audio metadatas ?

Hi,

Is there a was to start a program in an OS/2 env using utf-8 codepage ?
Under RXULS inf doc, os/2 supported codepage are listed but the corresponding utf-8 isn't supported as default or alternate os/2 env codepage.

Waiting suggestions.

Traget: Read utf-8 chars like japanese or other specific characters not having a readable code under default 850 codepage from audio metadatas.

Sorry Dave, this is in mistake. Keep in mind that I do not have a manual, and I do evidence and error, and sometimes I take bad conclusions that then correct.

The correct is:
IFS=C:\OS2\HPFS.IFS /CACHE:2000 /CRECL:4 /AUTOCHECK:GL*
IFS=C:\OS2\FAT32.IFS /cache:2000 /h /q /ac:* /largefiles
rem CALL=C:\OS2\CACHEF32.EXE /f /p:2 /m:50000 /b:250 /d:5000 /S

swappath=L:\ 2000 409600

REM DISKCACHE=D,LW
DISKCACHE=4096000,LW

Provisted screen in Memory ON (I don't know if it will be necessary or not.)

I just did a test changing the 2 lines as Roberto did (cache at 2000 and rem the call).
What I can say is Whouah ! how fast it is on fat32 !  (My HDD on SATA is very fast compared to before where it took long seconds copy a few megabytes.

Now back at home... and again LVM does not work, no second drive - even if DHCP manages to find the network. So really puzzled as to why it would work sometimes and not other times..

Do you have programs that display or identifies devices D, CD ROM etc and/or drive letters....
If yes, it may be possible it uses LVM (may be LVM rexx dll)

Hum !

I got one time this kind of message and it was because lvm was already open by an other process not stopped...
Check running processes if this could help.

I only would test with an USB3 harddisk. Fastest are the 3,5" ones. But for FAT32 test every disk should be fast enough. Sticks are so different and sometimes transfer rate starts with high speed but drops afterwards -> unusable for comparison tests.

Hi Andy, read my comments
With SATA fat32 HD partition, it is very slow too (near 1MB/s ... in write)

It looks like it is partition size dependant ! may it be possible ?
(A small USB key is faster than the SATA FAT32 HD !)
