Applications / Re: IBM's Windows 95 Emulator
« on: June 08, 2017, 11:40:01 pm »
Hi Daniel

I remember that we discussed that picture long time ago on IRC when everybody just wanted to be able to run Win95 on OS/2. Since I never saw any binaries of it, I consider that picture as fake.

If anybody has the binaries of this "emulator" we can finally put this urban legend to rest :)

Regards

You can make win-OS2 look windows 95 very nicely :

I did it in the past....

Correcting it makes the disk having errors on the older system !

Setup & Installation / Re: ArcaOS: Impossible to install!
« on: June 01, 2017, 09:48:09 pm »
Hi,

I have a problem which could be related to the OS2AHCI as ArcaOS is looking into this way...
I have a MSI mainboard with onboard M.2 PCIe disk. As soon this M.2 disk is installed, getting the first install panel takes more than 10 minutes ! and LVM is unable to process my SATA SSD on which I would like install ArcaOS. With the M.2 removed, the install panel is available in about 1 minutes and I have to use no disk check to be able to find the SSD and after I could pass this first install part, reboot on the SSD will never proceed !

It looks like something is going wrong, LVM is not able to handle correctly the SATA disk while my system is AHCI only.

Please see open tickets at high priority.
To push forward investigation and debugging, may be it would be nice to open a ticket too. Thanks

Before any other develoment, It would be nice ArcaOS could be installed on existing desktop HW i7 CPU ( 2 tickets open ) !
Always not possible to install it yet ....   >:(

Applications / Re: ArcaOS - How to enable SMP
« on: May 18, 2017, 05:48:20 pm »
There was a bug where the W4 kernel was being installed which should have been fixed. Check your kernel with bldlevel to make sure you have the SMP kernel first. If so then check config.sys for acpi.psd, without options.
If you don't have the SMP kernel installed, you should raise an issue with Arca Noae and return here where we can walk you through installing it.
ps the SMP option might only show up doing the advanced install.

Thanks,
BLDLEVEL always show that SMP kernel is not installed, this is why I asked about how to enable/install SMP mode.

Because it didn't work, I deleted the installation disk and give a try on my new PC replacing the older one.
Under this one, unable to go forward the "detecting disk message...."
( see my comments under ArcoOS screenshots entry )

Before posting screenshots, it should well work... Up to now, I didn't find how to enable SMP mode to have at least 2 CPUs !!!
( This was very easy to enable under eCS )

Ok, well ???

Post the solution & screenshot, smh !

I guess you did not to try to install the System so far?

 >:(   Of course I installed it but as I wrote, SMP is not working making it unusable for me.
As soon SMP could be enabled, I'll post screenshots...

I guest that those having posted screenshots are unable to run SMP mode ! right ?

Oh, sorry, Remi! Misunderstanding - my answer was directed to Gregorrys writing not to yours!

And: yes, SMP runs here. I did not have to Change something or select something for this, the preboot menue started with 1 processor but after Installation all 4 are enabled. See Picture attached, please.

Ok, it works for you but I don't know why it will not for me ( disk use to try this installation deleted )

since last night until now, because it didn't work under the system where eCS 2.2b is? I give it a try under my newer PC based on a MSI Krait SLI main board with I7 9775c ( Bios set to use Legacy and UEFI mode instead of UEFI only - Disk set as legacy as well Cds, USB etc... ). I added a new 40Go disk ( left the PCIe M.2 256Go with win7 plugged on the mainboard and remove my 6To GPT disk to no have trouble.

- tried to install ArcaOS : it needs 3/4 of an hour to pass the license copy message and go into installation menu.
Then, Under select disk, I have a message about getting disk information... please wait... and it hung on this message ( waited more than 2 hours without luck to go forward ), tried 3 times and always the same issue :-(

The last try ending with power off made the bios go into reset state !  :-\
I don't know how to go forward with this installation...

If you did a sucessful install you should only need to bring up the CPU Moniter in Programs-Utilities and turn the processors you want to use on.

No good idea. ( only one CPU listed )

Install was successfull but SMP mode is not enabled !   ( only one CPU is on - SMP kernel not installed ! )
Under selective install there is no option to install SMP ( the readme tells that it should be an option but there is none ) ...
No where I could find a tool or interface to allow SMP installation and make me use all BIOS available processor available !

( I already lost a full day to find where it is and could not find it... )   >:(
