Hardware / Re: OS/2 on ARM64 CPU - No Problem! - Surface Pro 11

I didn't get it first, but the trick was to run the machine and got to "Tools-Settings" to customize it (Picture attached), I will be trying to learn more about it.

Regards

I would suggest to use the 86Box Manager, there are all different VMs listed and you can configure them there a bit easier.

Thanks for testing with X86Box. I am curious about some things.

1. Is there a mouse/keyboard integration issue? Can I move the mouse between host OS and guest OS?
2. OS/2 Warp 3 is promising. The website also shows OS/2 Warp 4. Can it run ArcaOS?
3. Is this also a possibility for the Mac? If so, which Mac CPU is supported?

Hi Neil,

here are my answers:

1. Mouse and keyboard are working stable, once I selecte Microsoft Serial Mouse at COM1 at the configuration. I have not found a Mouse Integration so far, to use it inside 86Box I have to simple click in the window, to Release it I have to use the keys ALT+ESC

2. I did not test ArcaOS by now, but why should it not work (at least all versions before 5.1) ? I tried Windows 98 yesterday and the installation started with no problem. I may test ArcaOS later, that may take some time, as I focus inside VMS on "pure" OS/2 releases (2.0 -> 4.52) for now.

3. as I do not have a Mac, I can not help here. But as my best guess I would say Yes, with the special MAC OS port it should work the same way, but that is a guess

By the way: it is quite need to use OS/2 Warp 3 on this OLED Device in Fullscreen, using the wireless Flexkeyboard and its Touchpad!  8) ;) :D

There is a hint on reddit for a 86Box for Windows on Arm64 Beta:

https://github.com/ArminiusTux/WinARM64-binaries/releases/tag/86Box

I am going to test this as well.

If you want to follow my notes, how easy it was to install OS/2 in a virtual Machine with 86Box at an ARM64 Device, please read here:

https://www.os2.org/viewtopic.php?t=4197

(German, Online Translator needed)

So, the Thesis: ARM can not emulate/virtualize x86 is proofed to be wrong. ;)

All the best!

Sigurd, what bldlevel does your copy of LANINST.PGM report?

Hi Steven,

I unfortunately can not find a file with this name on my pc, where I do have the copied CID files form the WSeB CD as well. (A full serach ended with no result).

Where should this file be located?

Thanks again!

Aaah this is soooo fun. Anyway on the WSeB CD (this can depend on the language). On an English WSeB its located in:
\CID\SERVER\IBMLS\IBM500S1
In that directory is:
SRVRINST.ZIP

In that ZIP file on my system is LANINST.PGM.

Roderick

While I can't see the fun in this, maybe because of my german sense of Humor, I will Look there.

Sigurd,

This

  SS:ESP=05c7:00003732  SSACC=00f3  SSLIM=00003fff

indicates we failed with stack overflow.  Of course, this does not tell us why.  We need to see to logs to get some idea of what the installer was doing at the time of the exception.

Hi Steven,

attached are the only two log files related to lan server stuff, I was able to find.

There are no Server related logs in \var.

Thank you very much,

Sigurd

Thanks Doug,

but unfortunately no change.

I think, I will start from scratch once I have time for it.

Thanks to all!

Thank you Roderick and David, but none of the tipps helped. The same POPUPLOG.OS2 as before.

Hi Steven,

thank you very much for looking into this!

This is what POPUPLOG.OS2 shows:

LANINST.PGM 0006:0000abf7

Is it of any help?

Thanks again!!

EDIT;

Searching for SYS3175OS/2 leads me to this homepage:

https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/os2-warp-server-40-sys3175-installation-error-and-multiple-cd-rom-drives-servers

It refers to multiple CDROM Drives, if I understand correctly. But I do not have more than one, and this is usb.
I will try to disable USB CDROM Support and try it again.

EDIT II:
Same error, no difference

Setup & Installation / OS/2 Warp 4 Tutorial on ArcaOS 5.1
« on: October 24, 2024, 08:06:30 pm »
To full fill my attempt of turning ArcaOS 5.1 in OS/2 Warp 4, I try to get the Tutorial to run.

I copied all the necessary files etc. like I did so many times before, beginning with some ( I do not know exactly wich ) Version of ArcaOS the Tutorial does not work as designed.

It creates the Training Folder on the desktop, but instead of showing the application it opens teh help file with the viewer, please see attached picture.

I guess this is the problem: the files must be connected to the viewer in some way.

Is it possible to turn this back for the tutorial program?

What do I have to do to get it up and running?

Thanks in Advance!

I want to install the WSeB Server parts on Top of ArcaOS 5.1, as I did several times before, using the great tool of Alex Taylor.

Unfortunately I missed the point to NOT install Samba/Network parts during the initial ArcaOS Installation. So I do get an error code (I think it is something like X1604, do not have it around yet) when trying to install the WSeB parts.

As I do not want to reinstall everything from scratch (it is a bit of a special installation, what would lead to a lot of work), what components do I have to deinstall, and how, to get the Server Tool from Alex to let it do what it is supposed to do?

Thank you very much for hints!

I will attach a screenshot of the error code in a few hours.

EDIT: added Screenshot

Thanks Dave

On the Lenovo Miix that I'm trying I found that the UEFI BIOS has an options to select which to boot first. I selected ReFind from the list and it is the default now.
I will have to check the others UEFI machines I have.

Another thing, have you tried REFind with Secure Boot enabled on the UEFI BIOS?

Regards

If you do not find such Refind Option (as it is in "my" BIOS), try to select "Windows Boot Manager", what is the one rEFInd replaced in my machine.

Hi Mark,
thank you very much for your exzellent Tipps and Hints, as well as the PDF. Due to being busy I gave it all a first shot, found out there is with switch A:2 an "Auto mute" ID6, but had no luck so far.

I will come back to this later for sure, but this will take some weeks, as I have, besides my daily work, have to finish the 4th book of my nith-part fantasy Story. There is a new part each year, it should be ready at 24.9.24 (I have a faible for numbers, i.e. the first part is available since 21.9.21, the fifth will be at 25.9.25 and so on, German calender format) , so I have to Focus on this topic for the next couple of days.
It is free if charge, but unfortunately only available in German.

Thanks again!
