Arca Noae has the right to pick or choose the things, they want to develoep or make their target. That's true and OK.

Regarding the browser the "American/English" users may discover the feelings for waiting for years for something as Users from other languages, whom are waiting for their local release.

I.e.:

- the german Version was announced some years ago (Yes, allways with the hint that it "may" come and depends on the Translators)

Result today: still not available, should come with 5.1.1.

- the WLAN Drivers, have been "focused" or "considered" for at least 5 years now

Result today: no WLAN drivers available, no plan for a further developement in this direction (if I understand Warpstock 2023 correct).

Yes, you can say we have UEFI, GPT support and USB 3.0, that is what industrial customers need. And one can install XWP 1.0.16 with language support.

But for me, the result is the same: if I want to use OS/2 it makes definitly more sense to use a Virtualisation, where I can use a native language version, WLAN of the host, no RAM problem with a maximum of 4 GB usable, and support for the screen resolutions, the Laptop offers.

In this situation there is no need for a new browser as one can simply use the browser of the host OS,

And in addition, as a logical consequence, there is no need for another or newer Version of OS/2 than at least 4.52. There is no need for ArcaOS.

And so: it makes (sadly) no sense for me to spend more money for a modern browser nor to pursuade someone to do so.

Hardware / Re: Lenovo Thinkpad T14s 1st Gen - 20T1
« on: December 07, 2023, 05:09:15 pm »
Thank you Martin,

2.3 GB ist a very good value compared to other mordern Laptops, all in all it is better compared what I usually get, but less than one would like to have/need for the "big" RAM Applications.

- Installation not possible on Thinkpad X1 carbon 10th Gen.

- each 1GB on Thinkpad T470 and T480, but both of those have discret Grafics, so may 1.5GB possilbe with only Chipset grafic.

Thanks again.

Thank you!

I changed the topic as at os2.org P.R. pointed me to 86box.

To avoid double Posts I will only post updates on this topic at os2.org, unless there are questions here, please look there.

Thank you!

By chance I came across another emulator (a la Virtualbox, Virtual PC, VMWare) on the Internet that can also use OS/2 as a guest.

Here is a link to it: https://www.pcem-emulator.co.uk/status.html

The advantages of this emulator should be:

- Perfect selection from tens of emulated hardware - for example, you can emulate a 386 for OS/2 2.0, or a Voodoo1 for a Windows 98 gaming PC, etc.
- So you have significantly more options to determine the hardware in virtualization,
- For free
- Supports all major operating systems as a guest, up to Windows XP, including OS/2
- In addition to Windows, there is also a host version for Linux.

The configuration should probably be a little more difficult than usual with the other solutions.

I don't have any practical experience yet, but I'll give it a try this weekend.

So I can't make a well-founded judgment yet, but perhaps someone already knows something or has had experience.

OS/2 1.3EE
OS/2 2.0
OS/2 2.11

All German versions.

You can see most of them here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWdQdCYa-5E

Attached todays Pictures of 1.3EE.

Just became aware of ticket 0003507, subjet to the same problem. As there was no solution for this it will be the same with mine. Thanks again.

Thanks to all of you!

I created the files Roderick suggested and attached them to the Bugtracker - it is the report 0003524 - and here, as well as some pictures of this superb looking Diagnostic Tool wich come with ALT+F1 at hand.

EDIT: Unfotunately I can not upload dazinfo.dmz so I zipped it.

Reducing RAM is unfortunately no option, as this wonderfull Laptop comes with soldered RAM.

Thanks again!

It would be a burner to get ARcaOS to run on this Hardware!

General Discussion / Re: ArcaOS on Youtube @MichaelMJD

That happens, when you react as you were still or live in the 90's of last century on a video that is published 30 years later...

Yes, there is a license contract with IBM, but even though it might be better to inform possible violaters about it first. If I understand correctly, this contract did not forbid the video.

May be next time it is a good advice to contact the author of the video before crashing all down. But the damage is already there.

But due to all this negative attitude on ArcaOS and the "possible legal" problems with making a video about it now, I wonder if anyone else with such a wide spreeded channel will ever report about it.

I would very much like to be convinced otherwise! There have been so much tremendous work done by ArcaNoae with ArcaOS that it is really a pitty to have such a negative publicity now.

Just a speculation:

Is there a connection between the blocking of the video and the failure of the 2rosenthals website? By the way it is still marked as an infected site by Bitdefender.

Perhaps the video generated so much traffic on the ArcaNoae site that the servers went down because of this and the video may have been taken off the market for the time being.

Or one of the old Windows evangelists has noticed and doesn't want a new OS/2.

All speculation. The only onces able to tell what is really going on are at Arca Noae.

That is what I mean with "The holy Grail" ArcaOS.

Instead of using facts to convince critics of the opposite, they prefer to be silenced.

Imagine that on Windows: how many videos are there that criticize something, rightly or wrongly, and how many then have to delete these videos? Is that actually what is meant by "censorship"? As 007 once said to Q in Goldfinger "You must be joking!"

When I started OS/2 in 1995, I heard about the "OS/2 evangelists" and their very deterrent strategy for spreading OS/2. Doesn't an operating system also live from the discussion about it, from the rough edges that it may have?

Oh man, I can only hope that this is a misunderstanding and that the few people who deal with ArcaOS and also make it public are not alienated. For me, this also means very clearly: Am I glad that I deleted the ArcaOS channel. There will be no more videos about ArcaOS from me until further notice. But there are plans for OS/2 again!

I hope that ArcaNoae will still rethink this. So in my opinion you only destroy everything yourself, or as a German computer magazine once wrote in connection with a publication about OS/2: "IBM is cutting off its own arms and legs again."

But in the end it may sadly lead to: "Who cares at all?"

Hardware / Re: Some successful installs with ArcaOS 5.0
« on: January 28, 2023, 09:25:45 pm »

If you want to help, at least use the current version.

If you want to distract Users from ArcaOS and People from this forum, that is the way to go!

ArcaOS 5.07 is not the holy Grail, we have OS/2, eComstation and Arcaos Users here. Any Hardware Information is welcome!

In Addition it is NOT a must to read the wikis, it helps, but for a lot of people, believe it or not, English is not their mothertongue.

TNG999, please do not hesitate to ask your questions and post your Informations.

For myself I am using a pimped up OS/2 4.52 Version on Hardware, Arcaos 5.07 wont even Start the Installation. But that does not mean, that my OS/2 is the best around.

This Forums live because we have all flavours of OS/2 here, ArcaOs is just one of them, the most modern and the one I would suggest for a new User.

I do Just Start scummvm.exe in the bin directory, I do not have ANPM installed, nor the usr etc directories.

Thanks for the DLL, Paul. It crashes while starting with libc error.  I am on the road now, will Post a screen shot once I am at home again.

Looks promising :D
