Utilities / Re: Booting OS/2 with an Animation
« on: Today at 12:30:56 am »
Hello

Just to document this old thread. The OS/2 Warp 3 Beta 2 CD-ROM has a boot animation:

First, there is like little OS/2 logos and it switches to the big one
Second, after some loading the OS/2 circles disappear and appears in an animation.

Setup & Installation / Re: Dynamic Icons help
« on: September 06, 2024, 07:55:05 pm »
Hello Doug

There is an INF file with documentation.
Go to "System Setup - Workplace Shell" to the "Icon Size" tab and press the Help button there.

PNG Icons Themes
If you want to change the PNG icons themes, I have this little draft document here:

For any PNG icon theme you want to put on ArcaOS, it is as easy as pointing it on the config.sys with:
- SET BIGICONSPATH=C:\SYS\ICONS\BIGICONS

Change Default Size.
To change the default size of all the desktop icons, go to "System Setup - Workplace Shell" under the "Icon Size" tab.

Internet / Re: Dooble releases-Qt6
« on: September 06, 2024, 02:47:43 am »
Hello

Here in Ecuador Whatsapp is used a lot. I also tried with Qt6 and Dooble here.

I changed the agent to a different one so it can load the page, otherwise it asks you to update the browser:
- Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/128.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

Here on my side is very slow. I was able to link it, it took some time to load my chats, I can see those, but it is very slow here in my VM to be able to chat. It seems it takes a lot of CPU resources.  But it is nice to see it loading, I will try to test it on real hardware this weekend.

Thanks for all the efforts of porting Qt6 and Dooble !!!

Hello

Topic was split to "Retro Machine - DOS VDM - OpenOffice". Let's hope I did it right.

Let's continue with the 64-bit discussion.

Multimedia / Re: Updated Uniaud32 build
« on: September 01, 2024, 05:20:31 pm »
Updated to latest 6.1.x kernel code: https://smedley.id.au/tmp/uniaud32-linux-6.1.107-20240901.zip

Thanks Paul

I tested it (Release version) with ArcaOS 5.1.0 (BIOS) guest on VBox 7.0.14  (Windows 11 23H2 host).
- VM ICH AC97: Works, Audio control working, no traps. Just like the included ArcaOS 5.1 Uniaud.
-- I still have an issue that the first time I play a wav, I hear it loud (100%) and the next times I play it I hear it lower respecting the volume setting. If I drag a file to force the drag sound it sound 100% again, I play another wav  and it is 100% again and the next times respects the volume control (40%). It's the same issue from 3.01.03 (5.14.7), not a new issue.
- VM Intel HD Audio: Works, Audio control working, no traps.
-- But it still produce sounds in a lower volume. I had to rise it to a 100% to be able to hear something in my speakers, it is the same issue as the 3.01.03 (5.14.7).

For me it is working fine I'm keeping it on my VM.

Hi.
Unfortunately the USV mouse would not work - in fact the USB light on the mouse didn't even come on. I know the USB ports work (well, at least the power part!) because I also have connected a pair of speakers which have a 3.5mm jack for the audio but take power from a USB socket.

Do you have USBMOUSE.SYS on your config.sys ?
But it is a bad syndrome that the USB light of the mouse does not turn on. But maybe you just can give it try to see what happens.

Is the OS the kernel? the GUI? the user experience? and/or the applications that is has ?

OS/2 Kernel may never be 64bits, but I think about the idea of a different kernel that can interpret OS/2 in a way all applications think they still running on OS/2.

Even that I don't know much about it, I made this little graphic on how it should be over Zircon (Fuchsia OS) (A new Microkernel OS from Google - MIT license last time I checked). I always thought that CPI was the only thing taking to the kernel, but I think that the $DRIVERS$ talk also to the kernel. So the video, POINTER$, timers and other drivers need to be faked on a new kernel.

Hello Richard.

Sorry for going other path here. I remember that I used to give IT support to PC300GL long time ago. The device has USB 1.0 (or 1.1) ports on the back. I always wonder if those ports will work with Warp 3. Do you already have USB there? Do you think you want to give it a try for the older USB drivers? Is it a critical machine or you are fine playing with it?

According to the readme, the IBM USB Basic Stack Drivers 10.162, is supported for Warp 3. (But I'm sure some level of fixpack is required in Warp 3).

I've been in the email chain and on the Facebook OS/2 groups for a while. In a subsequent post I will put a link out in these forums about establishing an OS/2 Warp Appreciation Day set for October 11th 2024, 30 years since the IBM release of OS/2 Warp 3.0.

Hello Jason.

You kindly sent me the link for the establishing an OS/2 Warp Appreciation Day set for October 11th 2024 - https://day.os-2.in/

Just for the public to understand better, the idea is for us to define October 11th as the "OS/2 Warp Appreciation Day" and the people signing are the supporters right? It is not that we need to send that somewhere, right?

I like the idea.

Virtualization / Re: Setting 4k resolution for VMWare guest
« on: August 19, 2024, 11:24:37 pm »
Hello Aziz

I don't have experience with that resolutions (I don't have 4K Monitor at hand) and VMWare Workstation Pro. Since "VMWare Workstation Pro" was released free for Personal use this year, it is on my list to try it with ArcaOS.

- Which version of VMWare Workstation Pro are you using? According to some online info since version 17.5.2 Build 23775571 it was optimized for 3840 x 2160
- Which version of OS/2 - ArcaOS are you installing?
- Is there any error message on OS/2 boot? or it is an error message when you try to start the VM?, Or there is no error, it just remains with the old resolution
