Title: Hardware Reports / Reviews - More - MORE !!!!
Post by: Martin Iturbide on November 09, 2017, 02:19:37 pm
Hi

I was wondering if there is interest on publishing "quick" hardware reports on the OS2World Wiki (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Hardware).

I had made some examples of Hardware I had been testing with ArcaOS 5.0.1 and I will post them on this thread.

- Lenovo Gaming Precision Mouse (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Lenovo_Gaming_Precision_Mouse)
- Lenovo Multi-function Mouse M300 (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Lenovo_Multi-function_Mouse_M300)
- Genius KB-19e NB Keyboard (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Genius_KB-19e_NB_Keyboard)
- Genius Scorpion K10 Gaming Keyboard (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Genius_Scorpion_K10_Gaming_Keyboard)
- Genius Scorpion K9 Gaming Keyboard (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Genius_Scorpion_K9_Gaming_Keyboard)
- Lenovo Wireless Touchpad K5923 (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Lenovo_Wireless_Touchpad_K5923)
And reported by other parties.
- Logitech Illuminated wireless keyboard K800 (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Logitech_Illuminated_wireless_keyboard_K800)
- Belkin F8E206 USB Keyboard (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Belkin_F8E206_USB_Keyboard)
- Logitech Unifying Transceiver (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Logitech_Unifying_Transceiver)
- Logitech Wireless Mouse M280 (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Logitech_Wireless_Mouse_M280)

Please post your reviews, I just need the hardwareID and some quick comments.

Regards

These:

- Logitech Unifying Transceiver
- Logitech Wireless Mouse M280
- Logitech Illuminated wireless keyboard K800

were tested by me on MCP2/ACP2, so I know nothing about ArcaOS. But it should work with ArcaOS too, with big probability. Also, I should note a disadvantage of keyboard k800: It stops responding frequently on pre-boot applications, e.g., pure DOS, BIOS setup, FreeLDR, QSINIT apps. After a cold reboot it works again. And it works fine under OS/2 (I saw no times when it stops responding in OS/2, only in pre-boot environment). It is very annoying, but otherwise, it is very pleasant keyboard (it is wireless, charging from microusb, and having two rechargeable AA batteries inside, which could be replaced to batteries with more capacity. It uses Logitech Unifying receiver, which can be used together with a wireless mouse, like Logitech M280, supporting the same Unifying receiver. I also heard that the you can take two Unifying receivers, plug them into two computers and switch between them via a keypress. I did not tried this, yet, though. I ordered two more Unifying receivers on Aliexpress, waiting for their arrival. Will test them, when they arrive. The wireless keyboards/mice can be paired to an Unifying receiver by a win32 utility, downloaded from Logitech site. It is paired only once, and works without a special software on any OS.) Also, the K800 keyboard has a backlight with adjusted brightness and a sensor of hands proximity. It turns off on inactivity and turns on when you bring your hands to it. Very pleasant in use, except for that it sometimes does not responding (only in BIOS pre-boot environment).

PS: It also has no problem with key autorepeat, as with much newer USB keyboards. I bought another USB keyboard (some OKLICK model, with backlight, too, but it was much cheaper than K800) before this one, and it did not autorepeat keys, when you hold it on. K800, in difference from that OKLICK keyboard, does autorepeat well. I suspect that it is applicable to all Logitech keyboards.

This may be fixed with David's last USB driver version USB-11.17.exe.

Hello Martin,
I believe that in scanner, you should include any network scanner,
that can send the scanned document by mail or by ftp.
For this, drivers are not needed, all the more an FTP server program, to receive the documents.

I see this:

Hi Roberto.

Sure, scanners that send email or upload files to ftp should be on the list, should we call it "network scanners"? But it can be interesting to create the list of which scanners are being used by OS/2 users. If you have one, please let me know the model.

Scanner that works in os2:
Brother MFC-6490CW (A3) Very old equipment, probably not manufactured now.
Brother MFC-J5330DW  (A4)Newly acquired equipment.
As printers, neither of them works because they are GCI, and for now neither with cups.

The main problem in identifying a specific equipment is that the manufacturers constantly modify the models.

Just a few random old but useful candidates:

- Toshiba MK2001MPL 2 GiB PC Card hard disk drive (https://www.willhaben.at/iad/kaufen-und-verkaufen/d/festplatte-toshiba-mk2001mpl-1-8-pcmcia-222465533/).
- All Philips Snow Edition USB 2.0 flash drives, which should support USB 1.x too.
- All Philips Urban Edition USB 2.0 flash drives, which should support USB 1.x too.

If you have those around and you can provide me the HardwareID (of the USB devices), it will be great.

When it comes to USB flash drives, it might be better to collect non-working modules as in my experience, they all work once set up correctly.

Nope. An IBM Pentium 4 desktop may accept a 2 GiB USB flash drive, but the combination of eCS and older IBM hardware won't. Lord knows why, but if WinXP replaces eCS then this device will work with older IBM hardware too.

If you ... can provide me the HardwareID (of the USB devices), it will be great.

</silence>
If USB.IDS's Either Hand is not a generic vendor with a misleading name, then the information of the USB Device Monitor (and/or USB.IDS) is not reliable and all relevant details (mainly USB 2.0 and older) were already included.

If I ignore the fact that "all" devices probably won't have a single ID, e.g. a 8 GB and a 16 GB one? I've excluded a type of "Edition" (series names) I've never used, albeit that'll probably work too. So ...

... the left one of their Snow Edition series doesn't qualify. There's no USB version printed below its capacity of 64 GB. It may work, but that's unconfirmed and excluded by the USB 2.0 (or older) restriction of the product itself.

Hi Dave

I agreed that it may not be as important to collect USB Flash storage devices because they are supposedly to work, but I don't think I will be getting a massive amount of devices of people reporting.  So I don't care to if I post the ones that works and the ones that does not work.

So keep posting the hardwareID please.

Hi

I had posted both on the wiki:

- Philips Urban Edition USB 2.0 Flash Drive (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Philips_Urban_Edition_USB_2.0_Flash_Drive)

André, just post the hardwareID code. If USB.ids is wrong just give me the code that "lsusb (https://www.dropbox.com/s/ef45b19aqrc6c95/lsusb-20130526.zip?dl=0)" command provides for that flash drives.

To add another network scanner (WiFi)

Brother ADS-1600W

I does double sided scanning and scans to FTP and CIFS from the touch screen.

And now to USB Keyboards.

Roccat Isku+

It works with the USB keyboard driver but not to its full potential I think because it has three interfaces built in (there are Linux interface drivers for it that might be interesting).

Corsair K95

It works if set to legacy mode but this prevents any of the extra keys being recognised.

Corsair K55

This keyboard is not seen by our USB keyboard driver.

Hi Ivan.

Thanks. Here it goes:
- Brother ADS-1600W (Scanner) (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Brother_ADS-1600W_(Scanner))
- Roccat Isku+ (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Roccat_Isku%2B)
- Corsair Gaming K95 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Corsair_Gaming_K95_RGB_Mechanical_Gaming_Keyboard)

Does the Corsair K55 does not work at all as a regular keyboard? Can you generate the hardware report of it to also document it? Or it does not even get recognized by the USB stack?

-  Samsung SE-506BB/TSBD 6X USB2.0 External Slim Blu-ray Writer Drive (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Samsung_SE-506BB/TSBD_6X_USB2.0_External_Slim_Blu-ray_Writer_Drive)

Hi Martin,

The Corsair K55 is seen by USBRES but that is all.  I think the problem is its multi section and the USBKBD.SYS doesn't find the one that is the keyboard - the others do LED lighting and macros.

Attached are the USB outputs for OS/2 and windows which might give someone some idea of what is going on.  It would be nice if it could be made to work because, like the K95 it is a solid mechanical keyboard reminiscent of the old IBM ones.

I just added the  Corsair K55 (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Corsair_K55_RGB_Gaming_Keyboard), just to document it does not work.

I had also added:

Thanks Wim.

I will include it.

I also have one with a "C-Media" chipset that I want to try. Does the Audio input works to put a mic there and record audio?
Any tips on the how is the config.sys configuration/parameters of it?

Yes it does. It works very well with DTAPE V1.0 Beta 10 (http://home.clara.net/orac/os2.htm#dtape) for playback and recording.

When using DTAPE for recording you need to set the correct Record Type before you open a new file.
You have to do this only once anytime that you plug in a different usb audio device.
For this device I used PCM, 44100 Hz and 48000 Hz, 16 bits, Mono, Line in.

When using DRECORD for recording I used "drecord /1 cmedia.wav" and "drecord /F:48000 /1 cmedia.wav"
Quote
Any tips on the how is the config.sys configuration/parameters of it?
No. DEVICE=D:\MMOS2\USBAUDIO.SYS /V
Just follow the installation instructions in the C:\READUSB.TXT file that comes with Lars Erdman usb drivers:
Quote
Q: Why does the USBAUDIO driver come as a zip package (copied to the \MMOS2 directory) within this zip ?
A: For audio drivers it's not sufficient to just copy them to a directory and modify config.sys.
They need to be installed via the "minstall" tool.
You need to extract the USBAUDIO.ZIP file into a temporary directory, open a commandline and run "minstall /*" from within that directory.
That will properly install the USB Audio Driver. Note that the ArcaNoae drivers might add an entry to config.sys
for USBAUDIO.SYS which you will need to remove/comment out first.

May I add that Wim and me we are currently working on a fix for USB 1.0 audio devices to being able to control playback volume/mute setting. But this is only a minor issue.

That said, ANY USB audio standard version 1.0 compatible device that supports sampling rates <= 48000 Hz should work with USBAUDIO.SYS. But you are limited to wave playback: MIDI does not work and properly never will (unless you use a SW emulation like Timidity). I have yet to come across an USB audio device that supports MIDI in HW. Wave Recording will also work but the current driver does not bother to support any controls regarding recording (like automatic gain control on/off etc. etc. etc.).
One of the reasons for this is that OS/2 does not have a user interface that would allow the user to control all that stuff (and the standard is very generic, it supports all kinds of odd controls, from compression to reverb, echo,  mixing, etc.)

Beware that more and more USB  audio devices now follow the standard version 2.0 because Microsoft has started to deliver such a driver for the Windows OSes (a few years ago). Unfortunately these standard versions are not backward/forward compatible which eventually will leave OS/2 behind (unless someone starts writing USB audio version 2.0 driver). As so often.

Ok
- Enable network under ADS1600W and connect it.
- Creates a folder for ADS1600 on my NAS (which has ftp server enabled)
- Created 3 profiles under
   http://ip@/scan/scanprofile.html
tried secure ftp but it didn't success  -  used  local network ftp on port 21
   * profile for pdf
   * profile for pdf (ignore blank page)
   * profile for jpg
- Having a netdrive network connection to my NAS under ArcaOS, I could read scanned document
   (fine)

Select which profile to take (from those previously created) from under ADS1600W display (sensitive)
And scan + FTP

Mini Portable 3G/4G Wireless-N Hotspot AP 150Mbps RJ45 USB Routers inalámbricos

This accessory works well as wifi, wireless client mode, does not need drivers, is configured by web,
as power needs a port usb3.0 or 2.0. and an ethernet network cable from the PC to the accessory.

The only downside that I see is that it forces me to modify the tcp / ip with another network range
than the one I use abitually, but that's it.

Yes, that is a MIDI device. However, I was thinking about a USB device with a built-in synthesizer/wavetable that generates audible output from the input MIDI stream. Much like what normal sound cards did/do.
In short: something you can throw a MIDI file at and then you can listen to some sort of sound output.
I don't know if that exists. Maybe MIDI is dead.

They exist, they are no longer a mass market option however as people have mostly moved to built in soundsets, Ketron is the biggest player in those and German company Miditech sells them as well, but Roland still has at the least one model in their lineup although that is not sold worldwide anymore but primarily in Japan and NA and Yamaha has a unit available for the Japanese market only, where GM sequencing is still a thing.

http://www.ketronmusic.co.uk/Products/Ketron/micro_modules/index.html
https://www.ketron.it/en/products/content/35-moduli-suono/

Note that the Italian site is a bit "fu*ked, their SD2 and SD1000 are excellent if a bit pricy.

http://miditech.de

These can sometimes be a bit difficult to track down as they are made in batches, they are also confusingly called "Pianoboxes".
Thomann usually have them in stock
https://www.thomann.de/gb/miditech_sound_modules_expanders.html

https://www.roland.com/us/products/mobile_studio_canvas/

If you want some cheap fun and already have a MIDI interface of some sort, track down an old Kawai G-Mega, the soundset is old-school but they go for next to nothing second hand and the built in synth is a hoot to play around with.

Hi Martin,

Right now I am also using the AUDIOPHONICS U-SABRE LTE with the latest (10.220) Lars Erdmann USB driver set.

This is a USB adaptive playback only device. It works best when connected through a USB 2.0 hub.

This adapter contains the SA9027/ ES9023 chip set.

Another printer running Lemark CS410dn (A4 laser color) with the legacy driver of the Lexmark C750 pscript.
You only have a problem with lucide, always print on two faces, when you select postscript, and on one side if you select as an image.
He ignores what the driver tells him.

I have found an offer for less than 120 euros. If someone is interested:

So, the printer is connected and working with OS/2 using the network port, right? Using SLPR port over TCP/IP, right?

Remember that I'm not good with printers, I knot that printers are important, but I just don't use them much.

Network : is yes, tcpip is yes,
SLPR el puerto slpr es muy sencillo de usar y configurar, solo tiene dos valores la ip de la impresora y el nombre de host. Similar a 192.168.1.101 y dhcppc1. Para conocer el nombre de host solo necesitas encender la impresora y que te imprima las configuraciones de red. Por la pantalla le puedes poner la ip que tu quieras.

Remember that I'm not good with printers, I knot that printers are important, but I just don't use them much.
This is one of the printers I've had and I have been easier to configure I installed. You just have to open install printer and the drivers that you have installed in your system to select the model that I told you earlier. But for any question you have this forum.
I have a couple of comments to ask you, the price of the Tonner in Lexmark is higher than the price of the printer, look at it.
Also me to past that after installing this driver, the pmpdf that had configured to generate the PDF in automatic I stopped working, but I changed the driver of the printer PDFWriter that default is Apple Color ..12/600 by the c750 and all OK.
Also the Dbexpert when it was connected to a xerox6500 for print, give me an error, but to see the configuration of the Xerox the Xerox driver itself,The driver himself suggested I change the UserID by - and the password for - and all OK. I run the xerox6500 with a psprint driver.
I tested the next programs with the CS410dn, pmview foto perfect, open office is ok, dbexpert is ok, lucide have same problems.(see previous comment)

Saludos

Gracias Roberto.

I had created the following page on the Wiki:
- Lexmark CS410dn (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Lexmark_CS410dn)
Remember that you can change that page with the same userid and password of this forum.

This report of the  Lexmark CS410dn running under legacy Lexmark C750 pscript drivers is very interesting!
It's available from Amazon.it (with a warehouse 20km for here) for 120 euros.
I am presently 'back and forth' with AN Mantis bug tracker to try to get an HP LaserJet pro M252dw working , with no success so far. I need a printer. The specs on the Lexmark web site say that this machine has two usb ports; one on the front for 'flash drives' and one on the back, I would assume for connecting to a pc.
If you could confirm that its possible to use usb from the pc (ArcaOS 5.0.1) for printing to CS410dn I can put it on my 'backup list' and feel more confident in a way forward.
tia for your comments and suggestions.

I can confirm that the usb port works correctly, the problem was that the port was covered with paper and I did not see it the other day when Martin asked me.
