Setup & Installation / Re: UEFI & SecureBoot?
« on: July 30, 2013, 05:19:31 pm »
I struggled with a UEFI system (IBM X Series) server, and eCS 2.2 beta simply does not recognize the SATA hardware. It fails even in compatibility mode with

OS2AHCI driver version 1.29
Found AHCI device: Intel PCH AHCI (8086:3b22) class: 010601 bus: 0
devfunc 0xfa
OS2AHCI: couldn't register [MM]IO region: (rc = RMRC_RES_ALREADY_CLAIMED)
No adapters found.

Marketplace / OS/2, software and books on eBay

I'm selling off the duplicate and unneeded items from OS/2 Museum West. Proceeds will support the Museum.

http://search.ebay.com/?sass=neilwaldhauer&ht=-1

The items will ship fast via USPS priority mail and are available to ship world-wide through the eBay Global Shipping Program.

I am looking for help to store and curate the Museum. If you would like to physically store the museum, you will have access to a very large collection for your interest in OS/2. The collection is currently in Santa Cruz, CA and weighs over 1000 pounds.

OK, I tried from a ecups printer, with the latest version from a fresh install of a recent eCS 2.2 beta. QPDFview displays the document well, but the print lacks most of the text. The document is a tax form for the State of California.

https://www.ftb.ca.gov/forms/2012/12_540.pdf

Lucide prints and displays the document perfectly.

Sorry about the non-eCups printer remark above, I must have been mistaken.

Label printing has always worked for me in OpenOffice. It helps to have the templates.

You've configured Tools - Options - OpenOffice - Java - path to your Java installation?

First OO4.0 I used has problems with Jave when OO was installed in a directory which contains blanks. So had to change 'Open Office 4.0' to 'OpenOffice4.0'. But most probably this is fixed in current versions.

What would you fill in for Tools - Options - OpenOffice - Java? I tried java600, java600\jre, java600\jre\bin, java600\jre\bin\client, but none are recognized.

Awesome, it works here! I had to try things, though.

When using the database wizard, I get a JRE Required dialog box. (OpenOffice requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. Please install a JRE and restart OpenOffice.)

Did I forget to configure something?

First, thanks to Yuri Dario for his work!!!

When I prepare to run OpenOffice, I use RPM to update as in the readme.

yum install libc gcc-4.4.4 gcc-4.4.6 openssl curl libjpeg libxslt libicu zlib libxml2 stdcpp mmap pthread urpo gcc-stdc++-shared-library

Transaction Check Error:
file /@unixroot/usr/lib/gcc335.dll from install of libc-devel-0.6.5-17.oc00.i3
86 conflicts with file from package libgcc335-3.3.5-6.oc00.i386

I tried to start OpenOffice by going to the openoffice program directory and executing swriter.exe, and I get

Unable to start Apache OpenOffice!

return code: 2
Failing module: ICUUC42

Reviving an old thread, I tried qpdfview 0.4.3 and at first I only got an error message "could not load pdf plugin", but then I deleted %home%\.config\Trolltech.ini and pdf loaded fine.

Now I'm seeing the whole pdf on the screen, but when I print, I get only the first page. I tried both an eCups and a non-eCups printer, and both print only the first page.

Networking / Re: Samba share woes
« on: June 18, 2013, 11:32:10 pm »
As we eCS users are now switching to SAMBA, we have similar woes trying to learn new networking terms and practices, combined with our own SAMBA still needing more users to find and report those last few bugs. How do IBM F&P use passwords, access control lists and workgroups? How does SAMBA? How to get them to do it the same way?

On the other hand, SAMBA for OS/2 might connect to Linux SAMBA without much fuss.

There isn't enough money in the fund to buy a wireless driver. All we can do is wait for someone to make one and give it to us.

That isn't unreasonable -- some really smart people have looked at building the wireless driver, and I think they will make one after some time.

One thing that makes sense is to use the existing funds to help finance the Firefox project. There is probably enough in the fund to buy 3 or 4 more weeks of development time.

The bottom line is that the funds were contributed to improve the platform, so applying the funds to a project that is active and can use funds will get something for the money right away.

Marketplace / IBM Developer Connection
« on: May 25, 2013, 05:12:05 pm »
I have a large collection of OS/2 materials, but I no longer have space to keep them. While I don't mind tossing a lot of it, I wanted to know if anyone would like a copy of the IBM Developer Connection. I have 4 copies.

These are notebooks of CD-ROMS that IBM distributed to developers from 1996 to 1998 that have many products on them of potential interest to OS/2 enthusiasts.

Contact me if interested, and I'll work out how to ship to you. International is no problem. eBay may be involved if they make things easier. (for international customs, they do.) I am in California, USA.

The attachment is the content. Two copies are are member-only and two are member plus advanced.

I can't offer any help with the Adaptec, but looking at the current offerings, wouldn't a IBM System x3100 M4 (or M3) run eCS pretty easily?

It's a nice movie, and I like that so many of the Slate features work.

I'd like it if more users would post about good eCS and OS/2 installs.
