Internet / Re: otter-browser, Qt5 build
« on: September 15, 2024, 02:54:39 pm »
Hi Dave,

looks good for the first tests. I need to use a Win-Version of Otter to import booksmarks (as html) from my old Firefox, otherwise no issues by now.
Will try to get it working also in German languge, based on the version I installed in W7 running in my VBox/2, and let you know.

I'd like to express how much I appreciate your ongoing efforts to help OS/2 still beeing usable in 2024.

Greetings from Potsdam / Germany,
Mike

Amendment: I just copied the locale folder from the Win-Version into the folder I put your executable and now Otter starts in German language  :).

Hi Dave,

Thanks again for your nice work. I my case I would like to have the German language available.

Greetings, Mike

Here you go for testing purposes. Let us know if you can get them to work. Alex says that the %LANG% variable is the usual way for Qt apps to find their locale. See the included readme from upstream. Not sure if drive letters will work or which path separator to use in DOOBLE_TRANSLATIONS_PATH

Fount today time to test the new dooble with German language using Pauls qt6-6.2.6-os2-20231109 together with his qt6weben-6.2.6-20240825.
I just used the profile from my QT5 dooble and everything worked well so far.
Thanks for the nice work to you and Paul.

Greetings from Potsdam / Germany,
Mike

Interesting what you are all saying but I will stay with my AOO 4.1.2 that does everything I want and even allows me to solve problems for my win using friends.

Never touch a running system.  ;D

Did you try AOO 4.1.2 rather than the older 4.1.11?  I ask because I see no reason to use the older version.

4.1.11 is much newer than 4.1.2  :D

My questions is, If I should go forward with this idea. Move the Win32 items to "/win32" and rename "/windows" to "win16".

Sounds reasonable for me.
By the way, thank you very mich for all your work for OS/2.

Greetings,
Mike

I installed version 3.4.0 and with this version I can no longer connect to Windows or ArcaOS VM but I can connect to Ubuntu Linix on my Raspberry PI.

I have attached the connection logs for the windows 10 VirtualBox.

With version 3.4.0 I have normal access to my W10 computer, nothing has changed.

DeepL is giving better translations than Google translate in my opinion.

I believe no matter how you install VLC, it will not work until tha idn11.dll is installed. Once installed, VLC will work from any location when updated.

I can confirm Davids finding. I have the idn11.dll aready in my Unixroot partion. I can't remember when I placed it there.
If I remove the idn11.dll then VLC cannot start.

I do it usually as David has suggested with #1).
I extracted the zip-file to a folder of my choice. In this case to "F:\Programs\VLC2\".
I have added "F:\Programs\VLC2\USR\LOCAL\LIB;" to my LIBPATH statement in the config.sys long time ago.
And it starts and plays videos as expected.

Hi, would someone try this site with dooble:
https://www.sueddeutsche.de/
Hallo Holger, die Webseite der Süddeutschen Zeitung öffnet ganz normal in Daves QT5 Dooble version.

For the English speakers: This web site from "Süddeutsche Zeitung" opens quite normal by using Daves QT5 build of Dooble.

The FTP-site is asking for credentials (login and pw) when I try to download.
Any idea what to use?

Using wget, something like:
Code: [Select]
wget ftp://dry@ftp.os2voice.org/Dooble_10_07_23.zip --ftp-password=email@address.com
Will download it....

Thanks Paul, download has been working as promised.
