Setup & Installation / eCS 2.1 hangs on boot - OS2LVM.DMD
« on: September 16, 2015, 12:17:20 am »
Somehow I've screwed up my eCS partition on my machine for compiling sources. The last thing I had done was manually deleting a WATCOM install. It didn't want to delete, as I had it installed in two different directories (yeah, I know -- real smart!) any ways now when I re-boot  it locks up after getting to "Installed OS2LVM.dmd". I don't know what was supposed to come next, I'm guessing UNICODE.SYS ?
Can anybody help me out? Seems like the older I get, the DUMBER I get, Thought it was supposed to be the other way
 around!

Thanks,  klipp

Thanks all for you're suggestions. For now I'm using Alex's suggestion of GFC .
However RBRi -- I found and downloaded Araxis ver 4.0 and it worked well but would not save the edited file unless I registered the software. I could find no way to register it. If you're still willing I would like to take you up on you're offer to make it available. You can contact me at rklipp(@)megared.net.mx  -- thanks!

Utilities / Diff Tool

Is there such a thing as a "simple, easy to use Diff Tool for OS/2" ? I need to add and remove (merge) statements from some large files.

thanks, klipp

Programming / Re: Need a couple of .DLL's
« on: September 03, 2015, 10:41:29 am »
Hi once more Dave, I think you are right about VBoxXPCOMM.dll, or its an error thats been carried forward from the early days, clear up to version 4.2.32!   I was however mistaken in saying that its needed for os2, its needed for Windoz. VBoxXCOMM.dll is needed for for compiling os2 and got me a bit further in the compile. Thanks again.

Hi Dave, They are both needed when trying to compile the Frontends for the newer VBox builds for OS/2.

Thanks for any help,  klipp

Applications / Re: SeaMonkey question

Dave, Putting root\usr\lib at the begining of LIBPATH fixed the problem with additions, like you suggested. Thanks much for the suggestion to upgrade to 2.28, it solved several problems I've been putting up with for quite a while. All is working GREAT now!

Hi Dave, I took you're advice and went ahead and installed 2.28 --- all went well! Only problem is that I can't install lightining, I get "lightning could not be installed because SeaMonkey cannot modify the needed file". I did the .wpi version.  After fooling around a bit , it turns out that none of the additions will install, this worked on a test box using Lightning-2.65.with no problems.
Am I maybe missing a dll?

I'm lazy Dave! .wpi is usually easy & reliable. What would be a better choice rather than 2.7.2?
Thanks for the reply   klipp

Applications / SeaMonkey question
« on: August 14, 2015, 07:07:56 pm »
I have SeaMonkey-2.3.en-US.os2.zip installed on a production machine, I need to upgrade! My question is, can I install SeaMonkey-2-7-2esr.wpi over the existing version without any problems or loosing any data? or do I need to delete SeaMonkey-2.3.en-US.os2.zip and start over from scratch?
Thanks,  klipp

Setup & Installation / Re: Samsung ML-2165W Printer
« on: July 12, 2015, 05:39:15 pm »
Hi Holger, I havn't tried the ML2165w, but have experience with several other Samsung printers. Unfortunatly while the printers are generally excellent printers, they (like many H.P. printers nowdays) require a Proprietory  driver which is not made available for OS/2. You might try contacting Paul, he might possibly have more information about this situation.

Time to end this topic, Thanks again for all the help. -- Per, with Alex's "Generic Postscript (Enhanced)" driver the printer also works as you described using SLPR. I've written a "HowTo" for installing as a USB Printer, If anybody's interested its posted at http://www.os2-ecs-mexico.com/indexVBox2.html under the heading "Miscellaneous Stuff & Information". As soon as I get CUPS ppd working I'll add that also.
and Per, Thanks again for "tipping me off" about this printer.
