Thanks for the suggestion Free sounds good)
That being said, for 2020 the location will likely be near Frankfurt. Someone is working on that now. Zuerich could be a fallback if Frankfurt would be too expensive, Bear in mind that we are not only looking for a location, but also someone who can do some local organizing, like arranging a discount on hotel rooms, finding out about public transport details to be published on the website and stuff like that.
And there is always 2021.....

Java is pretty high up the list to port. Might be next if QT is finished and sponsoring found- So it might well be that for a new Java Odin will get some updates as well. Dmitry might shed some light on that because he would likely be the one who does the porting.

Internet / The new browser / QT5
« on: August 07, 2019, 09:50:17 pm »
It looks like a beta release of QT5 is imminent. Days rather then weeks away (my assessment, https://github.com/bitwiseworks/qtbase-os2/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+sort%3Aupdated-desc). Pretty much on schedule. Once the retail version is complete work on the browser proper can start. A lot of people have sponsored this project, either directly to BWW or through VOICE. Please, keep sponsoring. Beside the browser a lot of other application will become available in more recent versions with this port of QT5. i.e. qBittorrent. I think Tellie is already waiting impatiently to start porting newer QT apps to our platform). A little bird whispered in my ear that the Falcon browser  might be available as early as November.

OS2Voice is asking for input for the location and date of Warpstock Europe 2020. We would prefer a location that is easy to reach by public transport. (air and train) We prefer a date somewhere around the last two weeks of May. There are some holidays in this period and e would like to know if we should plan in hose holidays or outside of them. Please make your suggestions before the end of July.

Bjorn.

This coincides with both the bombing of my home town, one day earlier, and Warpstock Europe, 2 days later. Would be nice to welcome you in person to Warpstock Europe 2025. That'd mean we're still  on 4 years from now)

I guess any name has to be considered in translation.

Maybe do like Mozilla did.  Change Godzilla to Mozilla.

Might have had something to do with Mosaic)

Networking / Which NIC to buy?
« on: March 17, 2019, 01:06:02 am »
I have a computer with a Realtek onboard NIC. The Multimac driver traps. The trap can't be analized because the computer won't produce trap dumps.
So, I'm looking for an add-on PCIe NIC card with a non-Realtek chip that is supported by an OS/2 driver. Checked quite a few online shops but the choice in PCIe is very limited. Most cheap brands do not list the chip used. A high end >200 euro one seems a bit of a waste... Tried a PCI to PCIe adapter with an intel NIC fitted, but the BIOS doesn't even see the NIC, just the adapter. Does anyone know of something that works and is readily available and affordable?

The page says  that currently a social even on Friday is not planned. I will arrive Friday afternoon and if anyone is interested, book a restaurant for a group. Visiting a few bars is also an option, first round is on me (Out of my own pocket, not Voice funds)

Let me know here, might take a while for me to react, don't check this site daily.

Setup & Installation / Re: Installing ArcaOS on a GPT formatted disk
« on: March 01, 2019, 03:29:02 am »
And another update. Had everything installed and working, apart from the second GPT disk. Dfsee showed me it was no longer GPT but MBR... Win must have touched it without informing me.. Used dfsee in win to wipe it, rebooted, and nothing( System didn't boot anymore, Aos would boot from stick and show no disks. Tried puppy linux dfsee again, this did boot now and shows te disks all zerod. No partitions, no mbr. Something happened that should not have and i'm quite sure I didn't do it. I did select the right partition/disk. Ah well, start all over in a few days, Ordered a 1 Tb ssd. They are becoming affordable, Currently have about 3 tb of data. Have a small 2 tb nas that only accomodates one disk. Currently I can't back up all that data, lack of storage. The nas is also a mediaserver and I have not found a good os/2 solution for that yet. Thinking about a nas with at least 2 bays, 4 tb storage, a pc with 6, so it can keep backups. I know that is not the best backup stratagy, but critical data is much less and gets backed up on usb disks. It's just still a tad too expensive to go all ssd, But it's quiet)

Setup & Installation / Re: Installing ArcaOS on a GPT formatted disk
« on: March 01, 2019, 01:32:31 am »
Update:

Gave up trying to rescue the old windoze 7. Took way too long to save the image to another disk. The disk in the 'new' machine also had a partition that extended beyond cylinder boundaries and the disk tool in arca couldn't correct it. So I just wiped everything with dfsee and proceeded with installing arcaos. This went well. I expected problems because the thing has UEFI and no options to set a bios compatibility mode. Seems to do that automagically though. Everything seems to work, USB (mainboard has both 2 and 3 hardware), network, sound not tested yet. Video is intel and panorama only gave me 640x480. Easily cured by inserting an ATI Radeon X850. Reinstalled windoze, and it's doing the endless updates. One strange thing, the second disk in the machine, gpt and not touched, is no longer visible in win gui. Win fdisk shows it, ntfs formatted, no driveletter and tells me it emty, which it isn't....
