Programming / Re: Start program from VX-Rexx

Thanks to Dave Yeo, who built version 4.01, the new pdftotext now works from VX-Rexx as well.

Thanks a lot, Dave.

I've only tried pdftotext so far. This version also seems to work fine from VX-Rexx.

Noticed this post;

Does anymone know if the v. 4.05 cmdline tools for OS/2 are available anywhere?

Now I've also tested running the command below from DBExpert;

address cmd "start /C /min P:\test\pdftotext.exe source.PDF input.txt"

At one point it actually worked and produced a nice input.txt, actually the best so far since it
handled the special character 'ΓΈ' correctly.
Funny thing is that it worked only one time.
Have tried lots of times and don't even get any error messages.

When running a cmd-file with only the line below it works ok.
address cmd "start /C /min P:\test\pdftotext.exe source.PDF input.txt"

I've tested a few other programs from VX-Rexx using "address cmd" and they work.

pdftotext.exe is in the same directory as the VX-Rexx project and the cmd-file.

I've also copied the cmd-file and pdftotext.exe other directiories and it still works so I assume it
does not depend on any other dll.

Thanks, but I can't get any of the suggestions to work.

ADDRESS CMD "P:\test\pdftotext.exe source.PDF input.txt"
Results in "private_alloc failed, error code = 0x00000137

'@start cmd /c start "pdftotext" /b/k '||your_program
Results in "invalid expression"

In another project this is working fine:
address cmd.exe "start /C /min d:\gs\GS9.15\BIN\gsos2

I have a cmd file with this line;

address cmd.exe "start /C /min P:\test\pdftotext.exe source.PDF input.txt"

and it works fine (converting the pdf to txt).

Trying to run the same line in VX-Rexx is not working.

Got some good tips in the below thread:,2932.msg32804.html#msg32804

I've tried any "combination" I could think of but no success.
At one point I got the error message "private_alloc failed, error code = 0x00000137".

Anyone who knows how to get it to work in VX-Rexx?

Still works here, also the link Martin provided.

Setup & Installation / Re: DB2 v. 6.1 / Java
« on: February 23, 2024, 05:08:34 pm »
Well, I downloaded and installed 1.1.8 and DB2 Control Center works.
Problem now is that DB2 Administration Server will not start, SQLSTATE=57019.

Alex, you're right, the runtime was already installed in x:\OS2\JRE\Java11  ???

Neil, when trying to create a database I can select "local" and it is not asking for any protocol.
(Since the Adm Server won't start I'm unable to complete the steps for creating a new database,
will keep File and Print in mind.)

Thanks, Ivan, but I just got Java 1.4.2 installed.
No success with db2cc.cmd;

/* JRE [options] CC "[-h {location of db2jd}] [db2jd port number]" */
'jre -mx128m -cp 'db2path'\cc;'db2path'\cc\db2cc.jar;'db2path'\java\swingall.jar;'db2path'\java\;'db2path'\cc\ CC -nojit "6790 %1"'

I've replaced "jre" in the above cmd with "java" and get some "NullPointerError"
Wonder if I have to try with an even older java version, like 1.1.8?

Thoughts are welcome.

It seems like DB2 requires an older Java version than the OpenJDK that comes with ArcaOS.
The DB2 java apps works with jre.exe and not java.exe.
Tried to install Java 1.4 but got some error.

Is there a work around to make DB2 work with OpenJDK, or any other solution?

Programming / Re: SQL running total

Thanks Roberto, but unfortunately it returns no values.
The query I mentioned earlier is run from VX-Rexx and Intersolv 2.11, can't make it work with DBExpert.
I'm trying to create a column that holds the sequence numbers for the records, like the image below:

Programming / Re: SQL running total
« on: February 18, 2024, 06:51:40 pm »
Some more testing ....

select a.rowid, a.accno, a.bkgdate, a.amount, (select sum(b.amount) from finance b where b.rowid <= a.rowid and a.accno = b.accno group by b.accno) from finance a order by a.accno

However, I also need "order by BKGDATE" but that will change the running total column and make it useless.

Have an idea about running an update query with the necessary "group by" and "order by" and that it inserts record number,
incremented by 1. in a new column.
Ideas anoyone?
