Applications / Yum error! "Python strikes again"!
« on: July 17, 2016, 01:14:11 am »
I was doing a "Update All" using Arca Noah's package manager, and was about half way through the process (I believe it was in the process of updating libc.066) when I got this:

There was a problem importing one of the Python modules
required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was:

   dlopen rc=2 extra=NSS3K

Please install a package which provides this module, or
verify that the module is installed correctly.

It's possible that the above module doesn't match the
current version of Python, which is:
2.7.6 (default, Feb 26 2015, 17:48:50)

Now I can't do anything with yum and Arca Noah package manager shows "no packages available" and also shows "all packages are up to date".
UnInstalling Arca Noah package manager is do-able but re-installing comes up with the same results.
Is there a procedure for getting rid of yum and starting over from scratch?
Current version of Python IS 2.7.6

Thanks for any ideas, klipp

Programming / OS4 question
« on: July 11, 2016, 10:19:35 pm »
Will using the OS4 kernels possibly do away with the 4gb limit for files? .vdi files, and others commonly run in excess of 4gb and up tp 8gb in many cases. Need a way of copying these files. Also is there an up-to-date install procedure for the OS4 kernels?

Applications / Lotus 123 version 2.1 .img files, How to convert?
« on: May 14, 2016, 03:20:27 am »
I want to upgrade from Lotus 123 release 1.7 to 2.1. I have the original Lotus Floppy's (1994) for 2.1 but age has taken its toll and they are unreadable without errors. I down loaded Lotus 1-2-3 2.1 for OS2 (3.5) off the Inet and have 5 .img files that I don't know how to convert to something installable. Is there a way of installing all 5 to one CD? Seems I remember doing this about 15 years ago but guess I've forgotten the basics. I tried doing this on Windoz but the .img files were unreadable! -- maybe Linux? -- but prefer doing it within OS2.
Thanks in advance for any help or ideas!

Programming / Another GCC error I can't seem to fix!
« on: January 08, 2016, 09:14:59 pm »
I'm compiling VirtualBox source and after I get "Linking SUPR3HardenedStatic" I get this  No rule to make target error:
No Rule to  make target 'F:/2.1.4-SUP/src/vbox/HostDrivers/Support/$(PATH_SUPR0)/SUPR0.def' needed by F:/2.1.4-SUP/out/os2.x86/release/obj/SUPR0/SUPR0.lib stop
SUPR0.def is located in F:/2.1.4-SUP/src/vbox/HostDrivers/Support/SUPR0.def
Can anybody tell me how to make the needed target so that GCC can find SUPR0.def?

Hardware / Kingston memory stick problem
« on: November 25, 2015, 07:20:32 pm »
I have a couple of these Kingston memory sticks (16gb) and they work fine on eCS/os2. I just purchased another one and it works fine on Linux and Windoz but not on eCS/os2. Its formatted fat32 like my other sticks but DFSee says: Large Floppy Format - Fat32, First sector is a regular boot record (large floppy format) Large Floppy Format will not work on os/2 or eCS!
This stick looks identical to my other sticks,  I guess they've changed how they prepare them now for sale. Is there any way I can make it work on eCS?
  Thanks for any advice.   klipp

I'm trying to add a third hard drive to existing setup, this third drive is a WD500AKS. I can't install eCS-bII on it because of the problem with LVM not being able to be initiated because partitions on this new drive cannot be tagged as startable. I've tried everything I know of to get around this problem, but  – no luck. The latest thing I tried was using DFSee and creating a Primary partition as FAT32 and was able to tag is as startable, but then trying to install eCS to it resulted in the usual Failed to initialize Logical Volume Magament – Please close LVM.EXE – etc!
Hopefully someone knows how to cure this problem, Thanks for  any ideas.
Ohh, by the way, I also tried removing the other H.D drives and tried to install to just the WD500AKS
and that didn't work either.

Setup & Installation / eCS 2.1 hangs on boot - OS2LVM.DMD
« on: September 16, 2015, 12:17:20 am »
Somehow I've screwed up my eCS partition on my machine for compiling sources. The last thing I had done was manually deleting a WATCOM install. It didn't want to delete, as I had it installed in two different directories (yeah, I know -- real smart!) any ways now when I re-boot  it locks up after getting to "Installed OS2LVM.dmd". I don't know what was supposed to come next, I'm guessing UNICODE.SYS ?
Can anybody help me out? Seems like the older I get, the DUMBER I get, Thought it was supposed to be the other way
 around!

« on: August 14, 2015, 07:07:56 pm »
I have SeaMonkey-2.3.en-US.os2.zip installed on a production machine, I need to upgrade! My question is, can I install SeaMonkey-2-7-2esr.wpi over the existing version without any problems or loosing any data? or do I need to delete SeaMonkey-2.3.en-US.os2.zip and start over from scratch?

Hardware / SoundBlaster SB4740 Driver (SB 4740)
« on: May 11, 2015, 09:50:33 pm »
Does anybody know if there is actually a working driver for OS/2 for this PCI card, its a SB 4740? eCS  2.2bII detects this and installs a UNIAUD driver that doesn't work. Both Linux & Windoz install a correct working driver for this card. I need a 16 bit SoundBlaster card that will install and produce sound with VirtualBox Guests. I don't care about the quality of the sound, I would be happy with anything that qualify's as sound  -- hum, static, or buzzing, --- however, listenable music would be a probable un-attainable PLUS! As far as I can tell the only sound that ever worked on VirtualBox or VPC was on a ISA motherboard, (Please somebody tell me I'm wrong about this!). If anybody has ever got sound working with OS/2 - eCS (on a PCI Motherboard) as a host and working sound on any guest OS please enlighten me!

Thanks for taking the time to read this,  klipp
