but wouldn't it be worth it to use a fraction of Windows if it meant a functional browser?
No. There are better alternatives. Cheaper. More secure. And without reading and using (stealing) your data. And without giving permission to delete your data.

Why do you think about winflector? Isn't this another remote access software where the real program runs on another hardware on another OS and only the screen output is mirrored to your machine?

You can do such thing easily with our RDP port. Setup a Linux machine, install xrdp/xvnc and connect to it from your ArcaOS desktop. Either freerdp (much preferred) or vncclient. Works quite good. Probably will work the same with a remote windoze machine. But no need bothering with that crap.

Not sure why you consider it crap honestly. It might not be your preference but it's still a good product.
It has several advantages. Instead of having to login to the whole server as you do with RDP - you can login to just a single app automatically in it's own application window, so it feels like a real application.
It's also much faster and optimized for speed then a standard RDP console.
And if you offered it as a hosted service to others it has better security controls.
But you seem to feel strongly about it :).

Maybe I wasn't clear enough, mind English is not my mother tongue, but with crap above I meant windoze. Can't comment on winflector. But the mentioned OS I know long enough and good enough and know how it evolves. So I've a lot of arguments why I know it's crap. At least this days and for serious computer users. But I've already wasted too much time in my life with this OS.

I suspect the stock VAL does not take into account the need to run ported nix software.

Yes, 2560 is good here. Anything higher leads to a reboot when trying to run AOO and Seamonkey - or Dooble - at the same time.

Pete
I think that's the reason it is set that low after installation. It simply does not work on many machines with high values. I've one here which can't run with >2048. Although quite standard and not very new Asustek mainboard. Unfortunately with 2048 it's unusable for me as a workhorse :-(.

Storage / Re: Sharing drive between OS/2 and linux
« on: February 20, 2026, 09:37:32 am »
I'm sorry from now if going to write something useless for such scope; is that much away from sharing folders by samba between Linux and OS2 ? That's beacuse it is normally possible  that way between OS2 guest Virtualbox and Linux host. Of course not talking about Virtualbox Shared folder feature
I want to put in different >xTB JFS backup drives full with OS/2 stuff into my Linux box and copy some/all files over. Copying millions of files >1TB is no fun over Samba. Mind our samba isn't the fastest and not the most stable too.

Thanks CaIYY -

sudo chmod 0774 /media/device-name
Will test this next time.

Btw. I also learned that rsync to samba share on NAS is much faster on Linux than on OS/2. Also much faster than with Win -> USB3.

TTBOMK Yuri uploaded all his work to the official AOO repo. As usual with such big projects the problem is to get all the needed dependencies installed on your local build machine and set it up the way that it works. Also getting the know how about circumvent build problems is not that easy. Not rocket since but very time consuming. I was happy to pay Yuri (via bitwise) to do this stuff all these years.

General Discussion / Re: Spam Bots

Yes Anubis blocks my SM on OS/2 too. But I've Prefbar installed and so it's easy to switch UA. When I select Lynx 'Lynx/2.8.3rel.1 libwww-FM/2.14FM' edm2 works.

edm2 works too with SM from Debian. UA 'Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:128.0) Gecko/20100101 SeaMonkey/2.53.23'

Too bad that we have to cheat our real UA to access OS/2 related sites ;-).

Thanks for the info, but it's just one example. And, don't get me started on IDEs ;-)
Here maybe Dmitriys approach (SSH file sharing to OS/2 box if I understand it correct) may help. Or running OS/2 virtually in f.i. Linux. But until now I hate doing such. Of course you don't need a browser for OS/2 anymore when running within VBOX....

Networking / Re: Changing from DHCP to Static IP leads to TRAP

You deleted in \mptn\bin\setup.cmd static entries before and added dhclient then reboot? You can edit setup.cmd manually or with tcpcfg*.* or with the object that points to it.

I thought about buying a second M2 SSD and put it into this machine. As far as I read this should work and I've planned to do that anyway. But quick search turned out the prices are now nearly double at they where a month ago. So have to wait until they drop down again.

Btw. I have a desktop system with two NVMes inside. Running here as my main machine. Didn't have a problem with them when trying ArcaOS installations.

Hi
I've two sticks. One ArcaOS5.1 the other one ArcaOS5.1DE. ArcaOS5.1DE boots into the installer. But does not find a disk and so no partitions. Now try to shrink the Linux partition from Linux boot stick and see if I get further.
Do you think it may be that the nvme driver is not loaded? I'm guessing that this machine has a NVME HDD. Can you check on the ArcaOS USB boot to change the values and check if nvme.add is enabled?

Regards
Now I started the installer with own values instead default and checked config.sys. NVME driver is there and GPT also. But NVME disk is not recognized. Maybe cause it was partitioned with Win originally? I installed Debian/Linux afterwards. But ArcaOS don't even see this disk (Mini-LVM).

I attach the testlog in case anyone is interested.

First problem was 'Secure boot'. Found it in BIOS and switched it off. Thanks Martin.

Now it boots until the ArcaOS logo...

I rarely use notebooks so forgive my ignorance with this sort of computers.

Today I was curious if I can install ArcaOS 5.1 on a T14 beside the preinstalled W10 and Linux Debian. But I fail on boot from the stick. With <Enter> or <F12> I get into the BIOS boot menu. Here I see my SanDisk stick. But selecting it does not much more than switching the screen to black for a second or so and return to the menu. I tried USB connectors on left and right and even USB-C with an adapter. The same stick worked on different desktop systems before.

My T14 is configured in UEFI mode and usually grub came up which let me select Debian or Windoze. Hints?

Setup & Installation / Re: eCenter button image
« on: December 29, 2025, 08:11:24 pm »
The same thing the XWLAN widget does integrated in xcenter handles the stand alone program wlanstat. It get installed automatically with any xwlan package. So for WLAN / WiFi connections xcenter is not really needed.

Applications / Re: RSJ CDwriter question.
« on: December 18, 2025, 11:14:00 am »
Drop it on CD-View (?)

For writing isos or tracks (CD-Audio) you do not attach the CD with the CD-Writer (?) object but use the CD-View object. Not sure about the correct names cause it's so long ago. But you have it in your RSJ - object which is usually placed on your desktop during installation.
