Hardware / Re: eCS on an Asus X55U?
« on: September 11, 2013, 10:06:33 pm »
I don't have a spare HD to drop in it but I will check out the Stardock Start8 program. Thanks for the information.  8)

If waiting for eCS 2.2 is better choice than trying to use eCS 2.0, I might try installing eCS 2.0 onto my netbook with Win 7 limited on it.  8)

Hardware / eCS on an Asus X55U?
« on: September 09, 2013, 08:36:06 pm »
I have an Asus X55U laptop computer. Windows 8 is slow and driving me nuts.  >:( For some reason Microsoft thinks the start button is no longer needed. It makes finding things more difficult. The 'start screen' is really frustrating. I want to try installing eComStation onto it. Will it work or will it be a lot of frustration?  8) I bought eCS 2.0 not long ago.

At these prices, worth trying eComStation on it? The article indicates one can increase the memory and drive.  8)

I have an USB cd-rom drive. I am amazed how low in price they have come.  8)

It shows the hardware requirments for eCS. How upto date are these?

It indicates a PS2 mouse for best performance? How many computers even have a PS2 connector on them?  8)

If one could install eCS from an USB optical drive, there would be no need for the Iso Stick.  8)

Hardware / SOL: The $350 Ubuntu laptop that runs on solar power and eCS?

It seems like a good price for a solar powered laptop. It indicates in the article that one use another operating system than Ubuntu. I checked the photos about an optical drive. It would be interesting to see if eComStation would work on it. At $350, it would not cost a lot to try. I tried their web site but not much information there. Would it be possible to use eCS on it?

I saw this on Gizmag. I am glad I am not the one taking the pictures. The photos would be blurred.  ::)

'Does isostick work with Apple computers?
Yes! You can even use isostick to install MacOS X, provided you convert the disc image from DMG to ISO first.

Note: isosel will not work with older PowerPC-based Macs, see the related isosel question below.'
From the FAQ's on the ISO Stick site.
http://isostick.com/support/faq/

Perhaps it could work with non-win os's?

I just tried it (03-23-2013) and it seems to be back up again. One can get .iso images from the site.

If it could run Windows 8, why not eComStation? Could it work?

Perhaps one could use the ISOStick to install it with?

I think this little airport is really cool. It has airplanes taking off and landing.
