Programming / Re: somFree - Portable implementation of SOM

Nice. Roger added a "Completeness" page to see the progress of the project:
https://sourceforge.net/p/somfree/wiki/complete/

A windows port of it was released too.

Programming / somFree - Portable implementation of SOM
« on: January 12, 2013, 05:26:51 pm »
"A portable clean-room implementation of IBM's SOM. Includes DSOM capabilities with CORBA IDL and IIOP."
http://sourceforge.net/projects/somfree/

I'm not sure for how long was this project on SourceForge. But it looks it had been some activity recently (2013-01)

I don't know much about it, but I hope it can also help us to have a open source clone of SOM on our platform. The compiled files are only available for some *nix flavours, but maybe it can help us on the future.

It is an open source project under the LGPL V3 license.

UPDATE: I noticed the project was registered 4 days ago.  And the source code it says is from "Roger Brown's Toolkit"(LGPLv3)

Hi Ivan

Thanks for the heads up, I had been sick this days.

But the best way to send me news is using the "Submit an Article" from the main site under the "User Menu". (once you log-on to OS2World)

Regards
Martín.

Hi Mike

I think Kim has the answer for this, but as I had been told this new site is running on the new server which was bought with the donated money to the community.

I hope I can be restoring some services on the next months. The old forum posts and old news are the top priority. But I also miss the Wiki and Gallery.

Hi Joop

I understand your frustration, but we have to remember that we are a community and not a big market anymore.

We all have made efforts for OpenJDK to became a reality, since Silvan that leaded the project without enough resources, Dmitriv that coded it,  the community that tries to donate to the project and even this site that tried to give OpenJDK the visibility as an important project for this platform (I think that Mensys also helped on this project, but I don't have formal evidence).

Silvan, about the bug. I think it will be a good rule to say that if the OpenJDK for Linux (same version) has the same problem, it is not a bug. I don't know the specifics of this case.

I don't have the best relation with Dmitriy (sorry the RPM thread is gone with the older forum) but I agreed with Silvan that the project need sponsoring.

What I like about this project is that is open source and Dmitiy does it development in the open. AFAIK there is no secret source code or something being hide from the rest of us. At least there is the opportunity (maybe not the resources at this time) to keep improving this project in the future if we compared with a close source payware.

Joop, lets keep insisting and trying more Java software on eCS, but I hope we can not fall into the frustration that had made many ones leave this platform and community.

I understand that I can not help much on this subject but I hope this can be worked out.

Regards
Martin

About SmartGit, it seems that version 3.0.11 uses SWT (eclipse SWT component) that we don't have migrated to eCS-OS2. That's why I'm using version 2.1.8. (that was a quick analysis I did before, anybody is welcome to deny this).

SmartGit 2.1.8 runs fine on eComStation, the issue is that to connect to GitHub is seems to have some certificates (or some security stuff) that are not working on our OpenJDK.

If anybody around is using Linux with OpenJDK and can try SmartGit 2.1.8 to connect to Github it will be appreciated.

Martin

I have a question trying to run SmartGit.

I'm running SmartGit 2.1.8
http://www.syntevo.com/smartgit/download-archive.html

The software seems to run fine:
"java -Dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false -Dsun.java.command=SmartGit -Dsmartgit.checkIncompatibleJava=false -jar ./lib/smartgit.jar "

But I can not access a GitHub address to clone a repository.
I'm getting the following error:

"An I/O error Occurred.

Details:
java.lang.RuntimeException:Unexpected error:
java.security.InvalidAlgorithmParameterException?
:the trustAnchors parameters must be non-empty
"

On the Command line it says :

If I add:

The error changes to to:

Any hint to make it work will be appreciated.

I tried opening a ticket, (http://svn.netlabs.org/java/ticket/194) but I'm not sure if it is a defect.

« on: January 01, 2013, 05:48:12 pm »
Hi

I had re-populated the OS2World Links with some OS/2 site links.
http://www.os2world.com/links

I also had enabled that the registered users can submit some link on this site.
http://www.os2world.com/submit-a-web-link

I will appreciate if you can take a look at the links and submit any missing sites. I will be moderating it, let me know if the "Submit a Web Link" is working.

Martin

Hi Ian.

Let me know when it can be possible for you to get them. There is no rush, but for the moment nobody else has replied to me, so you seem to be my only hope to get those articles.

Thanks
Martin
