Storage / Re: DISKCACHE causes delays on JFS volumes
« on: June 16, 2014, 07:54:26 pm »

Then I added "REM" before "DISKCACHE=..." statement in "Config.sys" - and all these delays ...

I was wondering about that statement and my SSD. I had a lot of problems on shutdown (chk disk on next startup).  But, then it just corrected itself or something - I didn't do anything.

So much pain for nothing.

http://mobiletest.me

Hi, Boris my site uses general width(resize ur browser to see ), so most of those sites don't work for me.  But, thanks to Martin I know I can go by what I see on my desktop, when I resize the browser to the size of mobile devices.

But thank you for the link - that site was one of the first I tried before asking for help here.

And here goes other from Android 4.2.2 on a Nexus 4 Phone using Chrome.

It does not looks as nice as the tablet, but the "up-left button" works very good.

I figure the title text and feature article was not rendering down correctly.  I really appreciate the phone grabs !

One thing could you try the pager at the end of the page.  There should be a red button that says ' next page' - does that work ?

Much appreciation !

Hi Greggory.

Here goes some pictures from Android 4.0.2 on a 10" tablet using Chrome.

Wow, thanks for the screen shots it look like it should  - it's showing the wide screen format (side date and large header), but that's fine !   I figured that it would render down one on tablets (it does on a ipad).

Thanks again,

Greggory

Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Re: OS2World Layout

Hi Martin,

Quote
Ian, I also like it that way, but I noticed that other sites don't use that design anymore. And when I asked some youngsters they said the webpage is "old school".

Don't worry about it, the layout is the best for the content or as Ian said change up the colors !

Quote
I know, they want stuff that fits on a tablet/smartphone screen. They also like things that you can 'click' through with your fingers on a touch screen, with bright and animated screens

Hmm, I may have or may have not touch my laptop screen trying to do something today:) Ian you are right though, I miss my laptop especially today - try updating a site from ur ipad :)

Quote
From the POV of smartphone/tablet users, I will admit that os2world.com needs work, or maybe my fingers are just to big. Is there a front end that can reformat for smartphone like some other websites are doing, and what sort of work is involved ? Is there a big enough need or can it be left for 'later' ?

http://www.mobilejoomla.com/tour.html or http://html5up.net - is what I use now and seem really great for most devices.

You could add a separate page for mobile news, but ask ur self what's the demand is for it ? I use an ipad most of time now and os2world is fine on that and I'm sure smart phone users can wait til they get home :)  I just added a mobile template to my site. But I'm leaning html5 and css3, so I had other reasons !

Quote
You could simply change the color scheme ?
Also look at other front end themes that keep the basic data setup but mabe modernise it.
Just throwing stuff out there.

Maybe it's just time for a small theme change - hint hint  ;D by the way thanks for all the hard work you do for the community !

Cheers,

Greggory

One final thing - I don't have a smart phone, I keep losing them  :(

Could somebody test the pager at the end of the page on a smart phone, also is their a way for the menu to going up - googled it. And a course report if the site is half way readable on a phone.

So, what do you think? A new layout? Do you read all the OS2World news completely, of you just like to click on ones that you think are interesting?

I like the pick and choose better.

However, I would just add something like his format on a different page to os2world - I really like his full page format. Just add a little icon next the news post, so you don't have to mess with os2worlds current homepage format.

I was planning on doing something like that with news and new uploads from Hobbes too. With a rexx app, so anyone can just drag and drop their news or software on it.  It would auto upload to Hobbes and post the news auto too.

I have a working rexx app and news server, just haven't got around to it yet.

Well, the site looks about right, both on eCS and the new Firefox 24 beta and also on iPad with Mercury Browser

Thanks Neil for the feedback !

Greggory

Here's the final look before I turn it into a site template, any suggestions or comments ! Especially on the html part (yes I was lazy on the ul/ol list) - CSS is a mess because it was a lot harder going from one to 6 stylesheets.

I got my old domain back, so the final URL is:

http://www.os2notes.com/

I'm trying to add a mobile template to the site now. It should change on wide-screen, iPads, and phones ? Any feedback on these devices would be much appreciated ! I'm trying to learn Html5 and CSS3, so don't be offended by my cut and paste skills :)

I hope the sidebar looks Ok enough, because I can't get the position any better :( one thing that I really want fixed is the box-shadow around the sidebar.  The problem it runs down the length of the page and I want it to stop after the sidebar.    Fixed the sidebar.

If you already have a copy, then I'm pretty sure IBM won't mind for personal use - anyways does the license even mention VMs back in the early 90s ?

Also, you can search the web for pre-made VMs that are fully updated too.

The story that the NSA knew about this vulnerability for a couple of years and didn't tell anyone as it was handy for spying.

Well, I'm pretty sure that the NSA doesn't have any problems getting around or through SSL in the first place ;)

Programming / MPlayer/2 Drag & Drop install script /w Mp3 support !
« on: April 01, 2014, 07:38:55 pm »
Media Pack v.006 - I added a few things to Jeps install script. I'm going to be offline for awhile.

Updated to v.006

Media Pack started as a Rexx install script for mPlayer (by Jep !), now it has the ablity to install mPlayer/2 by Drag & Drop. The ability to install the MP3 codec and remove the old MMAVI class has also been added to the script.

Backup up the .mplayer directory in the home directory

I need to add a backup for existing 'config' files.

Download here: http://os2notes.com/os2mplayer.html

Greggory
