Setup & Installation / Re: Installing ArcaOS on a GPT formatted disk
« on: February 27, 2019, 07:37:19 pm »
Hi ivan

The choice of video driver does not matter as it is not loaded until during boot.

I have no idea how airboot is coded but if it is not displaying onscreen then I would guess the system is not presenting the video signal in a way that airboot can interpret.

Not a problem I have bumped into... I sometimes see a video out of range message when the Desktop loads which is "cured" by powering monitor off then on.

I get the impression you are using the graphics integrated into the cpu and wonder if the cause of the problem lies in that direction.

Should be worth a bug report anyway.

Hi ivan

Probably a silly question but...

Have you tried turning monitors off and then back on? - I sometimes see a similar problem where for whatever reason my monitor displays a "video out of range" message and powering monitor off and then on rectifies the problem.

Hi Martin

Are you also considering old DOS games that have been ported to OS/2? - There cannot be many older than the game called Digger originally created by Windmill Software in 1983  ;-)

Digger for OS/2 is here http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/games/action/digger-20140703.zip

The Digger website is here http://www.digger.org/ where you can also download some extras including some addon game levels which work fine with the OS/2 port and a DOS based level editor see http://www.digger.org/download.html

Have fun ;-)

Applications / Re: PMView - printing multiple copies through ECups
« on: February 17, 2019, 06:55:28 am »
Hi Gerry

Using pmview 2.32 the Print dialog has a Ranges and Copies section where you set the number of copies to print.

Out of interest I set 5 copies and printed to a file I called thetest.pdf - Yes, using eCUPS

I opened thetest.pdf in the text editor and see this:-

%%BeginSetup
/mDef matrix currentmatrix def
statusdict /waittimeout 0 put
0 statusdict begin jobtimeout end
ne {statusdict begin 0 setjobtimeout end} if
/#copies 5 def
/dw .11 .11 dtransform pop def

So, looks like you should be able to print multiple copies with the cups port - pmview certainly asks for 5.

You may want to try the above yourself to see if there is any difference in the output.

Setup & Installation / Re: Recovering XDF Disks from Flux Images?
« on: February 10, 2019, 07:39:17 pm »
Hi

If it is of any help there are some Warp3 cd images here https://winworldpc.com/product/os-2-3x/os-2-30 and a Warp4 vdi image here https://archive.org/details/VMOS2Warp4.52

Maybe either of those would overcome the xdf floppy problem  :-)

Applications / Re: Firefox 45.9 XUL.DLL error

Hi Dave

Does Firefox  45.9 use any of the libs that have been replaced by libs with the "-legacy" bit tagged onto the original name? eg libvpx and libvpx-legacy or fontconfig and fontconfig-legacy

I ask as updating libs screwed up OpenOffice for me a while back until I discovered 1 of the libs now needed had the "-legacy" bit added.

Just a thought...

Hi Dave

The reason I mention libcx is that seamonkey did not work here with 0.6.3-1 which seems to be the current release version but works fine with 0.6.4.1 which is only available from netlabs-exp.

May be worth klipp checking...

Hi klipp

I just did a Google for OS2 error 87 and the most interesting result is here https://github.com/bitwiseworks/mozilla-os2/issues/255

It may be worth checking which libcx package is installed. I seem to recall Seamonkey had problems with libcx which were resolved by installing the netlabs-exp version, 0.64-1.

I seem to recall adding netlabs-exp by the simple method of installing it from the Available list.

Hi Martin

I would guess that if any app relies on SNAP (SDDHELP$) it would need reworking and compiling to run on a non-SNAP installed system.

I have very few sdl based games and they seem to come packaged with whichever version of sdl dlls they require - must admit to not having played any for a while so no idea at the moment if there could be problems with the sdl 1.2.15-5 30/06/2016 currently installed. This build of sdl is available via ANPM - I think it was installed during ArcaOS installation.

I  think you are going to have to do a little experimentation to decide which sdl you need installed.

Hi

Or ArcaOS startup folder

If the ArcaOS startup folder is from the cutdown XWP - that should work. I do not recall there being any setting to delay app startup in the standard OS/2 startup folder.

Hi André

If you have XWP installed a solution to startup timing problems is to use the xwp startup folder(s) and set time delay as required to avoid startup problems.

Hi Martin

I think you are now at the point where I was a few years ago.

No, DTA does not produce sound in DOS - unless using the included player, dosapp.exe, to play a wav file.

My solution was to simply drop DOS/Win16 - ie do not install - in favour of Dosbox. As I only run the occasional dos game and no win16 apps at all this works fine for me.

Hi All

To have audio in DOD/Win16 sessions is possible when using uniaud. It requires the installation of another driver called DTA - Data Transport Agent.

The last version I used was 4.0a01. I think it was hosted on Rodericks site at 1 point but no idea where to find it now.

There is some info about it here https://ecsoft2.org/data-transport-agent-dta

I probably have a copy somewhere among my backups if required.

Hi ivan

Ian is most probably running the mythical USB3.0 driver we have heard about for the last few years

Be nice to know it has been thoroughly tested  ;-)

Hopefully the real USB3 drivers will arrive soon...

As to whether they will work on an AMD Ryzen we will leave that to you to discover  :-)

I seem to recall you have had various driver problems with AMD cpu based systems over the years which I seem to have mainly avoided though all my Desktop systems have been AMD based since around the mid 1990s.

I have not - yet - built a Ryzen cpu based system. Hopefully you will have all the problems sorted before I have a go later this year  :-)

Applications / Re: Seamonkey and AOO4.1.6 problem
« on: January 29, 2019, 10:01:32 pm »
Hi Dave

While installing smturbo v0.5 certainly helped previously I now find that it is no longer needed.

I have just rebooted and run both AOO and Seamonkey without problems and then realised that smturbo was not in the Startup folder so is not running - nor is AOO Quickstart.

The only change to the system is the smturbo update - which is not running.

Prior to starting this discussion I had not had any problems running AOO4.1.6 and Seamonkey.

There had been no system changes causing this problem originally and we are now back to all working with no system changes - discounting the not in use smturbo.

So, no idea what caused the problem but it seems to have sorted itself out...

Pete
