On 2010 I opened this issue as part of my "UX Suggestion for eComStation (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Comments_and_Suggestions_about_eComStation_User_Experience#Recommendation_.231_-_The_.22quiet.22_boot.)" article:
http://bugs.ecomstation.nl/view.php?id=2895#bugnotes
Using NTFS.IFS version 2.017.
when loading NTFS.IFS /Q still shows copyright.
"Product of Serenity System...."
I had tried IFS=X:\OS2\NTFS.IFS /Q and /S, but verbose mode can not be disabled.
Today I got this reply from Roderick:
This driver is still included in eCS. but we no longer support it. While I admit NTFS access is needed. We currently do not have the human resources to fix the driver. Since eCS 2.1 we also switch it optionally.
For beyond version 2.2 we are considering looking at getting a full license of
Virtual File System Driver because it has an NTFS plugin. Also we can then offer a better NFS client then the one we now use.
Closed: Resolution: open => won't fix
Sadly I can not put more comments on closed issue . (or I don't know how).
A good solution will be to open source NTFS driver and let the community fix this trivial thing. I know someone that can hep me with this.
But I don't know if Mensys has the right to open source NTFS.

why don't you use NetDrive with the NTFS Plugin? Imho it would make more sense to enhance this plugin than invest time in opensourcing NTFS driver.

I don't have anything against Netdrive, but I want to consider things that sum up to the community and platform. This means to have something that allows derivative work and that can be freely improved/modified by anybody. A Netdrive plugin can be open source, but sadly the whole Netdrive platform it is not. It does not mean that Netdrive is good or bad, it just a closed platform.
If the NTFS driver from Mensys get open sourced, it can be a good example of how to create a driver for eComStation and became part of the Open Source drivers (http://www.os2world.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Open_Source_Software#Drivers) we already have for this platform.
And also, why let NTFS.IFS die? why just don't give the source code and allow it to be at least a development sample source code.

Possibly the developer didn't want to release the code? I believe NTFS.IFS was sublicensed from eCoSoft; it wasn't developed in-house by Mensys.

Has anyone looked into porting NTFS-3G?

This is open source and works well on Linux and FreeBSD.
