Title: Does anyone have a recommendation for an FTP client for "old" OS/2?
Post by: RTAN on July 16, 2024, 11:04:40 am
Does anyone have a recommendation for an FTP client for traditional OS/2, i.e. v2.x or Warp 3? It would probably need to be freeware because most of the trialware apps no longer have a way to pay to register them!

I'm aware of Netdrive and its (S)FTP plugin but I'm after something for traditional old-school OS/2 rather than 4.52 or for using with ArcaOS.

I've presently been using the Hethmon Brothers FTP Server to "push" files to my physical OS/2 machine, but I'd very much like to find an FTP client I can use to "pull" files from the FTP server component setup on my QNAP NAS. It'll also probably need to be plain old FTP rather than SFTP.

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks,
Richard.

Hi Richard,

I prefer NFTP:

Browsers like Seamonkey or Firefox with the versions we have still support ftp://user:pwd@server....

Not sure if we ever had a port of Filezilla.

ftp.exe cli or ftppm (or was it pmftp.exe?). At least with Warp connect these should be included anyway.

You could have a look at JFTP 5 which I use on my beta warp 4 Merlin box.  It uses open JDK 6.

It uses open JDK 6.

What were the steps to get open JKD 6 to work on an OS/2 machine?

It uses open JDK 6.

What were the steps to get open JKD 6 to work on an OS/2 machine?

Code: [Select]
REQUIREMENTS

In order to use this version of OpenJDK, you will need the following:

  - A OS/2 Warp 4 Fixpack 16+, OS/2 Warp 4.5 or eComStation operating system.

  - LIBC runtime version 0.6.5 (you probably have it already installed):

    ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/libc/libc-0_6_5-csd5.wpi

  - GCC 4 runtime libraries:

    ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/gcc4core-1_2_1.wpi

  - Odin runtime version 0.8.9 or above:

    ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/odin/0.8.9/odin-0.8.9.zip

  - Extended system tray widget for XCenter version 0.1.1 or above (optional,
but required for system tray support in Java applications):

    ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/qt4/xsystray/xsystray-0_1_1.wpi

If you use the YUM/RPM package manager, you may install all the requirements
with a single command from the command line (except the system tray widget):

    yum install libc libgcc446 libodin

Unluckily netlabs is having problems right now for downloading it. Alternative download, http://hobbesarchive.com/Home/Download?path=/Hobbes/pub/os2/system/java/OpenJDK_6_b27_GA5.wpi (http://hobbesarchive.com/Home/Download?path=/Hobbes/pub/os2/system/java/OpenJDK_6_b27_GA5.wpi)

Read the README.OS2 for installation directions.

Hello Richard.

Maybe for Warp 3 it will work HandyFTP:

Many thanks for everyone's suggestions. I'll try a selection of those next week and report back!

Hello,

Filestar/2 (available on hobbesarchive) comes with a built-in FTP function.

Here the Info from the help-file:

Use the Drives->FTP Attach menu item to attach an URL to a drive letter. This menu option activates the FTP Attach dialog which is used to make the connection and attach the drive. It will only appear in the menu when the system is configured to load the FTP.IFS by a config.sys entry.
