Title: Virtual Serial Port?
Post by: Rich Walsh on July 12, 2025, 06:58:15 pm
I'm doing some maintenance on a program that won't start up unless it finds a 'COM1:' - but my late-model machine doesn't have any serial ports.

Is there a driver that will create a COM1$ device without the backing hardware? (It doesn't really matter what this virtual port does - it just has to be present.)

I seem to recall, that PMFAX has something, but I don't remember the details.

There is also that old "alternate" serial driver. Again, my memory fails me.

Perhaps a VBox system can do it.

There is also USB serial port, if you have one.

Rodent? Should be on Hobbes. http://hobbesarchive.com/Home/Download?path=/Hobbes/pub/os2/system/drivers/mouse/Rodent_1-0-13.zip which is the public domain version with source.
