Title: Calculator options.
Post by: Dan Eicher on August 09, 2025, 12:45:31 pm
I have been using the "Useful Calculator" by Alexander Taylor.

I'm a bit of an odd duck, and have always had an HP bias, do I have any RPN options, that run natively on Presentation Manager?

A couple of quick search, haven't brought up anything - grok said use a web based calculator, maybe find one the runs under windows 3.1 or consider custom development.

Thanks, the 15c java looks interesting, and I will need to take on the side quest of getting a java app running!

I don't understand how to use such calculators with buttons.
Do you really move the mouse and click every button? Use Save to Memory slot1, ..

Hello

Just in case you can check and try a list of Native OS/2 Calculators here:
And here you have the Java ones with a .cmd to run it.

Thanks Martin,
Another take home, is google and grok don't do a very good job of cataloging hobbes.
I need to always manual search for best results.

Love the 15C. Downloaded, easy to run, doesn't take many cpu cycles.

I understand that you need buttons if you have Touchscreen. In this case you input expression using buttons.
But if you don't have touchscreen then you don't need the buttons. you type the expression using keyboard as text string.

How do you dial by phone today? do you use emulator of radial phone on the screen and rotate the circle to select a digit?
no, you use keyboard to type the phone number.

Hello Eugene

I also have my things, like why you use this or that... but I guess the final choice is on the user.

Some wants to use windows and buttons, some other wants a command line. Let's just endorse the diversity and freedom of choice ! :D

If you use commandline, you might as well just use "rexxtry".
Or use Vrexx to present an entryfield that you read and process via REXX.

I have used PMDCalc Plus Version 0.9.9 (https://hobbesarchive.com/Home/Download?path=/Hobbes/pub/os2/apps/calc/PMDCalc_Plus_1-00rc1.zip) over ten years, now Version 1.0.0.RC1.

IIRC I completed some SDL HP48 emulators - these use RPN for working, so maybe they're not for the average user. Can't really remember if I already sent them to Hobbes though - I'm in the final phase of changing from one house to another and it's a NIGHTMARE.
Hope I'll have something new in september (will have to renew my software subscripion).
