I have been using ArcaOS 5.1 in VirtualBox for years and had no issues until something strange happened today (1/10/26).
It all started when some other device stole the Dynamic IP of my ArcaOS VM. Dynamic IP thievery is nothing new and in the past I just released my IP and then asked for a new one (admitadly in Windows since this was at work).
For OS/2, eComStation, ArcaOS, I usually had used a static IP (since I was hosting some PHP Apps and wanted to use an alias) and I have a range if dynamic IP addresses starting at .201 but for this ArcaOS, I just left it as DHCP.
When I tried to release the IP lease and then get a new one, I got the same one. I then decided to change to a static IP and used one off my master host file that is not in use, After that, every time I booted I got a TRAP.
I figured I needed to undo the static IP, so first I restarted my router and satilite range extender. Then I rebooted the VM that was trapping into the maintenance desktop and got into the network configuration and changed it back to DHCP, then rebooted.
That worked. My VM rebooted susccessfully and this time I got a new IP, plus the IP that was stolen was no longer on my router. So happy ending.
My question is, how does one switch the Dynamic IP? I used the DHCP monitor and that did release the IP but then I got the same bad one back.
