Firefox 45.9 connects fine here, but I don't have the credentials. Shouldn't need a certificate and TLS for a regular FTP connection but I guess it could be setup in such a way.

I tested more thoroughly; it puzzled me that other FTP connections worked and this one didn't. And that other people had no problems accessing the FTP server.

When I tried using VPN, I forgot to set the VM to NAT. I've tried that now. Result: When my system is connected via VPN (I tested the USA, Spain, and Germany), everything works: The program finds its update.zip and everything else!

The native FTP client also connects, wget connects as well. Firefox works as well.

If I turn off VPN, no connection is possible. However, Tracert shows that the server is accessible. A test of the Netlabs FTP server shows that neither my router nor my service provider seems to be blocking FTP.

For my virtual machine, VPN is a workaround for now.

However, I can't easily connect devices with a native installation to VPN because the provider's software isn't available for our platform.

Addition: The screenshot shows the situation in the VM without VPN

It connects here from western Canada, wants authentication though.
What is the result of,
Code: [Select]
tracerte ftp.blondeguy.com
Should end with,
Code: [Select]
19  blondeguy.com             (63.249.102.192)  50 ms  50 ms  50 ms
or similar.
BTW, from Firefox, ftp://ftp.blondeguy.com
The server is reachable, but a connection cannot be established. I tried using a VPN as a test, but there was no change.

I tried connecting using FileZilla on Windows. FileZilla displays a dialog for a TLS certificate. After accepting the certificate, an encrypted connection is initiated and a password request appears. Anonymous connection doesn't work. I double-checked with Palemoon on Windows: A dialog appears asking for the user and password.

I conclude that you can connect if the user and password are entered correctly. However, only with TLS.

This explains to me why the native FTP client can't establish a connection and also why a timeout occurs in Firefox.

But wget should be able to handle TLS? Perhaps adjusting the parameters would suffice? I tried some options on the command line, but I only get a timeout.

I gave this a short run. The software installs fine. However it attempts to connect to ftp.blondeguy.com on the first run. It never succeeds. Also attempts to manually reach that ftp site, using firefox for example, do not succeed.
I also briefly tested the new version. The installation ran smoothly - apart from a small error message in the log (see screenshot).

Yes, the hostname can be resolved, but I can't establish a connection either. Entering the update.zip address in Firefox also results in a timeout. There seems to be a problem with the FTP server.

I've attached a screenshot of my log.

(...) any other download location available?

There is a kcrypto.dll insite the package cclive0.6.2a-os2.zip. Maybe it is working. It can be found on https://www.os2site.com/sw/mmedia/video/old/index.html

The file is also located within the package openssl-0.9.8n-os2knix-20100325-runtime.zip. At least as of September 2019, it was still available on Hobbes. However, searching now yields nothing.

On the page https://ecsoft2.org/openssl  there is a local copy of version OpenSSL v. 0.9.8o (runtime, 2/6/2010, T. Ebisawa). The DLL is also there, seams identical.

General Discussion / Re: smp.inf - Adendum
« on: May 08, 2024, 06:29:21 pm »
Hi Martin,

... "SMP Programming Addendum" (smp.inf) (Nov 1996), that I can not find the file.
Any idea where was it shipped? or any link to it?

I have two different versions in my file inventory (one on WarpServer 4 Adv SMP and one on devcon12 cd 2). Same file name, different dates, and different content, see screenshot.
The title of both help files is identical. I've uploaded both here. I suspect that the version from November might be the one we're looking for.

The idea will be to try to find this old MS Basic compilers for OS/2 (MS Quickbasic?) and see if I can find some "brun30p.DLL", right?

The idea is correct. However, the DLL you are looking for is located in another package: https://winworldpc.com/product/ibm-personal-computer-basic-compiler/-2. Specifically, on the floppy disk image: BasicISAMv1.0.

The program starts in a full-screen session and then waits for the input of a name. After that, it starts.

I tested it under a virtualized OS/2 2.1. The major problem, however, is the execution speed. The game is running so fast that it's impossible to operate the game. I have tested the program under VirtualBox, 86box and also under qemu.
If one could decrease the execution speed, it should be possible to play it.

I have attached the DLL here along with a screenshot of the program start.

Applications / Re: Java applications

Hi

I know it's old, but I just wanted to run it to try it out. HotJava Browser 3.0 seemed to run time ago.

Today I'm trying to run it with OpenJDK 1.6, but I only get the splash logo.
I'm trying:  java -cp browser.jar sunw.hotjava.Main

Regards

Hi Martin,
this browser requires the old Java version 1.1. With that, it runs.

I've created a small startup script that should make the launch successful. In the startup script, the program path and possibly the installation path for Java 1.1 need to be adjusted.

The second script is also called from the program directory and creates a program icon for my script on the desktop.

Regards,
Peter

Hi Martin,
first of all, big compliments for your great work and for the idea of finding missing software.

I can help a little

The two programs are apparently no longer available on the Internet. The links I know are no longer accessible. But I have local copies and have attached these.

Regards,
Peter
