A question to the C++ programmers:

Is it technically possible to port LibrePCB to OS/2? Do we have the necessary prerequisites for this? Or would the effort be excessive...

Yes, it runs on OS/2 1.3 and OS/2 2.11. Not on OS/2 Warp 3.

Thanks TeLLie, of course that works. I completely overlooked the menu item and instead I always reset the layout in the settings.

Several programs seem to have problems with docking, including OpenOffice. But it also works there via the corresponding menu item.

Thank you for your effort,
Michael

Thanks for your tips. Both of them work :)

Many thanks to Elbert Pol for some great ports of software to OS/2.

I have two questions about LibreCAD:

In the new version, a command line window appears when starting. This was not the case with older ports. Is there a way to disable this?

As with all LibreCAD versions, panels can no longer be docked once they have been undocked. Is there a way to dock again?

Greetings/2

OK, the bug only seems to exist in the German version.

Yes, I also tested it with standard VGA.

Hi,

IBM Works offers the option to change the color of chart bars. Unfortunately, the dialog box for this cannot be opened, and Works crashes completely. This error occurs on various systems and OS/2-Versions, regardless of hardware or graphics card.

However, it only happens with IBM Works version 3.0. Does anyone know if there was a service pack for IBM Works 3.0?

Thanks,
Michael

Programming / Re: Setting up a NewView development environment

Thank you for your responses.

The project files contain relative path specifications, which are correct. I have temporarily changed them to absolute paths, but without success.

I will try to contact Alex and will report here if there are any news.

Programming / Setting up a NewView development environment
« on: August 13, 2025, 07:38:01 am »
I am currently setting up a development environment for NewView. Sibyl with FP3 is installed. I downloaded the NewView source code and copied it into E:\Projects\Sibyl\NewView. So far so good.

I adjusted the env.inc file for the folders. Running project-setup.cmd failed with an error. Inserting a semicolon on line 112 seems to help:

Call Lineout 'STDERR:', Right( sigl, 6 ) '+++', STRIP( SOURCELINE( sigl ))

After that the project files for Sibyl are created. Next I run the makeall.cmd script in the \NewView\Sibyl folder. There I hit the same error as before and made the corresponding adjustment in the script. Now the resources are build.
Unfortunately compilation fails with this error:

Sibyl compiler version 2.5 Compiling: E:\PROJECTS\SIBYL\NEWVIEW\SIBYL\MAKEALL.PAS Compiling: SYSTEM.PAS Fatal Error at [0,0] in SYSTEM.PAS "Syntax error (INTERFACE expected)"

Invoking the project directly in the Sibyl IDE reports that System.pas cannot be found. The paths are correct and System.pas is in its place. Does anyone have an idea where the problem might be?

Thankful for any help,
Michael

Programming / Re: Powerbasic for OS/2
« on: August 03, 2025, 02:06:22 pm »
As far as I know, version 1.5 was the last version of VisualAge for Basic. Unfortunately, the update is nowhere to be found.

Version 1.1 is unfortunately extremely unstable, especially when trying to use the language's object-oriented features.

Speedsoft Sibyl might be a good alternative. It's easier to learn than C++ and more powerful than Basic.

Setup & Installation / Re: BonusPak installation, fail.

I also had problems with this approach. I installed a Warp 4 in a virtual machine with IBM Works. I then took over the finished installation to ArcaOS. Perhaps someone can help out with an existing installation and copy it to you.

Everything that is necessary is the complete IBM Works installation directory and the following files from the \OS2\DLL folder:
fpwrec.dll, fpwwpps.dll, ien30pde.dll, ien30pwr.dll

With the Rexx-Script "Ibmwdesk.cmd" included in IBM Works, the program folder on the WPS is generated and the necessary additions to the config.sys are made.

Note: The instructions refer to the German version of IBM Works. It may be that the files in the OS2\DLL folder may have other names.

I was thinking more along the lines of a lean Linux or BSD. And while I'm dreaming, I wanted it to run as a 64-bit system in the virtual environment and be able to use memory above the 4GB limit.

All of this is purely theoretical, of course, and without knowing whether it would even be technically possible.
