Applications / Recommendations: File Managers?
« on: June 14, 2017, 08:56:28 pm »
I was looking around for different file managers for OS/2 and figured I'd ask here to see what others recommend.

I've used FC/2 in the past and I seem to remember others were out there, but I can't remember any of them.

What do you use? What's still being supported (if any)?.

Applications / Problems with Windowed DOS sessions
« on: June 11, 2017, 02:36:26 am »
I originally posted this in the Hardware section, but it looks like it might not be hardware after all.

I am testing Arca on a newish HP desktop computer and everything pretty much works fine. Except when I try to open a windowed DOS session, I get a pop message stating "the system does not support this session's video mode in a window".

The Arca installed the Panorama driver, the monitor is a AOC brand running 1680 x 1050. OS/2 prompt windows work fine. And the system has no other issues that I can tell. I just can't run DOS sessions in a window. They do open fine full screen.

*update* - I have reinstalled with each of the 4 video driver packages and I have the same issue with all of them, so I don't think it's a video driver related issue.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I am trying to setup my "backup" Thinkpad T43 (1875) with ArcaOS. I already installed it on my primary T43 (a newer model) and it is working fine.

The problem is with the Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit ethernet adapter. It is not a real pressing problem, since this is a backup laptop and otherwise it sits collecting dust.

This laptop did have eCS 1.2 installed with ethernet working fine using a Broadcom B57 driver that I found specifically for Thinkpads. And after having issues with the Arca install, I reinstalled eCS 1.2 to make sure the adapter was still working and it does work fine.

Arca initial install does not find a network adapter at all. After the install was finished, I installed the driver I used with eCS. After that boot up would have a long pause after loading the driver, then would state that there was an "Invalid IRQ value - check IRQ in BIOS" (which i cannot find).

If I try to use the B57 driver included in Acra, it boots up fine, but with DHCP or assigned IP/Route/DNS, there is no connection. ping attempts result in "sendto: No route to host".

ifconfig lan0

Exact same setup in eCS works fine. I can't figure this one out.

Also on another T43, slightly newer, same network adapter works fine. So it could be an issue with the laptop, but why would it work fine under eCS, but not ArcaOS?

General Discussion / OS/2 - ArcaOS Facebook group

If anyone is interested, there is an OS/2 group on Facebook - it's been there awhile, but with the release of AcraOS, traffic has picked up a bit.
