Networking / Test build wpa_supplicant v2.7
« on: March 13, 2018, 03:53:07 pm »
I've made a test build of the newest wpa_supplicant code and uploaded it to

It can be used together with current xwlan builds. From the readme.os2 -
Code: [Select]
BetaTester installation intructions
- replace installed wpa_supplicant.exe with the included one
When using xwlan widget wpa_supplicant is usually found in
When using the standalone wlanstat then in .\xwlan\.
- check if the new version is used by xwlan/wlanstat
right-click - properties - tab 'WPA supplicant' check version and path
- connect to wpa protected networks and post your findings at correspondending
thread at
- you can also test wpa_supplicant with a .conf file. F.i. set up a profile
with no security, switch on wireless and start wpa_supplicant manually
(f.i. wpa_supplicant.exe -i lan1 -cwpa_supplicant.conf)

If someone want to test feel free to post your findings here. If you're using the xcenter widget (in contrary to the standalone wlanstat.exe), be sure your ALT-F1 boot works or you've a working maintenance partition. I once saw a hang on my T60 at bootup of the xwlan widget with teh new wpa_supplicant.

Have fun.

Programming / VAC3.65 / 3.08 inline assembly? How to insert INT 3?
« on: December 21, 2017, 05:06:36 pm »
Topic says it all. I do not find any information to insert a breakpoint INT 3 in my C source code which should be compiled with VAC3.65. Sounds simple but obviously I fed the wrong words into the search engine.

Applications / VirtualBox 5.0.6 First Impressions - follow up
« on: May 25, 2017, 05:32:50 pm »
I've now running VBox 5.0.6_OSE r143 since a few months and it works quite well. I use it mainly with my banking software which is running in the WinXP guest. Compared to the old VBox it works much better. The shared folders do not have the problem with missing files/dirs anymore which was very annoying with the old VBox. Timing seems to be much better too. My banking software uses flicker images (?) to optically transfer data to an external small device which decodes the flickering. This works way more reliable than with older VBox version. But could be a side effect of the more powerful system I use too. That cursor bitmaps does now change as they should f.i. when hovering over a window border is another major improvement.

What does not work and features I miss are -
1) clipboard sharing between host and guest
2) Another problem I have is with the software which connects to my photovoltaic inverter. This software seems to use some IP-multicast packets to find the inverter but can't from within the guest. This is one of the rare things the old VirtualPC can do better. So better network support would be cool.

Anyone knows if someone is working on this? And what are your experiences?

Networking / ipgate on - why does it not work?
« on: December 10, 2016, 12:58:28 pm »
I ever thought it's enough to set ipgate on and OS/2 would route TCP/IP trafic from one interface to the other. I've now a system set up with 2 Intel NICs. One is setup to 10.0.0.x net the other is From another machine in the 192.168.1.x net which has setup default gateway to I wanted to ping the host But the machine with the two NICs does not route between the 2 nets.

Can someone enlighten me what's wrong?

I've running injoy since many years. But since a few days it blocks all traffic when I do not disable 'Dynamic Firewall Features'. Even pings to my ADSL router. I'm a security level 5 and have set in custom settings ICMP 'Allow All ICMP Types'. Since years the same. But this should not be related anyway as the firewall now since a few days behaves like that.

I think I've read somewhere the Dynamic Features should be enabled. Unfortunately I do not find much about in the documentation.

Any clues?

Applications / netlabs rpm cups.i686 1:1.4.8-3.oc00
« on: January 22, 2016, 06:47:44 pm »
Just test Silvans cups version from netlabs rpm repository. This is the first cups version which seems to get printing right with qpdfview. All older versions including Pauls 2.x builds did not work properly when printing some pages from bigger pdfs. While the first pages of the document usually did work, some pages with higher numbers only produced errors here. F.i. page 38 from 25MB big pdf with 182 pages did not work with other cups version.

With the new rpm packed version from Silvan I've successfully printed now the pages of the previous failing pdf. Even page 1187 from 41MB big pdf on my slpr connected PS printer works.

Many thanks to Silvan / bww for the continuing development.

Applications / VBOX does not start anymore
« on: November 12, 2015, 09:52:09 am »
After a crash of my eCS host system VBOX no longer starts. It displays the command lline window with
Code: [Select]
VirtualBox Command Line Management Interface Version 1.6.1_OSE
(C) 2005-2008 Sun Microsystems, Inc.
All rights reserved.

Waiting for the remote session to open...
but nothing happens. Usually at this time it should start to load the save image.

VirtualBox.exe from command line does nothing too. It immediately returns without popuplog.os2 entry or any other trap message.

I even tried to read back the xml configuration in /home/default/.VirtualBox but does not help.

Any hint to get my saved sessions running again?

Networking / Codepage problem with NAS
« on: November 01, 2015, 12:11:49 pm »
I can connect to my sons NAS (guess it runs some sort of Linux) via FTP and SAMBA. But I've problems with special characters. Using netdrive ftp plugin I've to select 1208 UTF-8 which seems correct to me. Now I see a the character in picture CodepageProblem1.png correct.

But another character displays wrong see CodepageProblem3.png.

I can not set any codepage to display this on correct.

Wenn using netdrives samba plugin the first character displays correct. But the second character displays wrong too. I do not see any setting for samba to switch codepages. But samba shows this ´ different. See CodepageProblem2.png

Needless to say looking from Windoze to this samba share both special characters displays correct. See CodepageProblem4.png

Is our UTF-8 not the same as the Win and Linux one?

Another thing I noticed - using Seamonkey to connect to the NAS via ftp I can not find any codepage to display the second character, the ´, correct. Neither on eCS nor on Win. Seems to be a strange definition of ´ character which only Win can decode correct. Any hint to solve this?

Applications / Which program to use for ripping audio CDs to flac?
« on: August 30, 2015, 11:19:42 am »
Unfortunately jRipper packed by Ronald ( does not work here. It seems to do exactly what I need. Simple front end, freedb, ripping into folder. Problem is it only rippes the first track of a CD. After that it hangs. Cancel button does not work too. Seems jRipper could not start the cdda2wav again for the second track and so waits endless. No difference between the java1.41 and java1.6 version.

Does jRipper work for anyone of you?

Which program do you use to rip CDs to flac?

Networking / 3Com 3C905 - driver which works with high IRQs?
« on: March 14, 2015, 11:33:52 am »
The EL90X.OS2 I've with eCS2.2 can not handle IRQ17. Anyone knows if there exist a driver for this card which can work with high IRQs?

In fact I got the driver loading and working with the debug kernel and manually changing registers at the point where the driver traps. But I do not want to patch registers every reboot :)

Setup & Installation / How to get ride of HPFS386
« on: August 24, 2014, 06:24:08 pm »
I've used HPFS386 in the past. But now my boot partition is JFS since a long time and the only HPFS partition is one for maintenance boot.

I was in the impression I only have to change in config.sys -
Code: [Select]
IFS=m:\IBM386FS\HPFS386.IFS /A:*
Code: [Select]

But if I reboot I get strange errors. First in the middle of the screen between other drivers saying something there is not enough memory. Think it's after loading sddhelp.sys. After hitting Enter
Code: [Select]
SYS0613: Not enough memory is available for....and after hitting Enter again a Trap 000e.

Surely HPFS386 cache needs a lot more memory than the 2MB of HPFS. And even with HPFS386 I've >200MB shared memory left. So do not understand the complains about memory.

Any help?

Networking / Injoy logging
« on: July 04, 2014, 09:06:01 pm »
I've a user filter like this -
Code: [Select]
Comment = "verhindere alles",
Source = "",
Direction = Outgoing,
        Log-Severity = None,
Log-Control = Disabled
which blocks connections from this device to the internet. But now the Injoy GUI 'Dropped Packets' and 'Rejected Connections' windows are full of log messages from this client. Can I prevent logging output of this rule? 'Log-Control = Disabled' does not help.

I'm glad that Injoy drops packets from this client but as the window is full of these messages the important ones are hard to find now.

Networking / IP connections with 'false' IP address - daytime.exe?
« on: May 17, 2014, 12:15:35 pm »
My Injoy firewall constantly logs IP connections with non existent IP addresses. Moreover the false addresses changes randomly. I think I've iptraced it down once being nntp time requests. But not sure anymore.

Anyone else sees such things? Is it true that the eCS included M:\ECS\SYSTEM\TIMESET\daytime\daytime.exe is the root of such request? It is started automatically with eCS2.1DE here.

The logged IP addresses are something like -

My IP net is 192.168.1.x (netmask so these IP addresses should never be routed through. Guess these are UDP packets or something else and only the firewall thinks these are IP addresses. But need help from more experienced users here. Thx.
