Applications / Re: Can't connect to Google after Update using ANPM
« on: December 02, 2019, 02:35:12 pm »
Just before reading this thread I spent half an hour trying to figure out how to downgrade NSS. The version in the exp repo leads to traps in firefox 45,9,0 too. This is how I downgraded:
From the directory where the packages are located (here F:\var\cache\yum\netlabs-rel\packages\) execute:
rpm -Uvh nss-3.23.0-4.oc00.i686.rpm nss-util-3.23.0-4.oc00.i686.rpm nss-softokn-3.23.0-4.oc00.i686.rpm nss-softokn-freebl-3.23.0-4.oc00.i686.rpm  --oldpackage
why not reporting possible traps in our github repos? As when we see no reports we move it to netlabs rel repo. And to be honest on my system and the testers system it seems stable and connects to all sites, but this might be luck. I don't know.

just to say it once again: no report on github or even netlabs trac there will be no fix.

Silvan

The reason I did not report it is because it was in the experimental repo. I assumed it is work in progress and not supposed to be bug free. Didn't want to clutter up the github repo wirh unnecessary bug reports, Ticket made.
if all think like that, then we will never find issues. as usually what we add to exp works for us. and mostly it just gets moved after some weeks.
Please send the trap's also to Dave, as I see a lot traps in XUL and not NSS. Eventually he sees something in his ffox which is wrong.
And as said, we will of course take a closer look as well.

Applications / Re: Strange PDF file problem using Lucide...
« on: October 22, 2019, 03:43:22 pm »
Sadly it cannot open any pdf files as it cannot find plugins. I suspect this is because they are not within the unixroot structure but will not be bothering to investigate further.

The same may apply to Qt5: "Could not find the Qt platform plugin". Producers of selfish, non-OS/2 solutions for the even fewer happy few...

we are really glad for your nice words. Are we really selfish? I doubt. If it's a non-OS2 solution I doubt either.
If you insists in not using RPM, then it might work or not. As RPM is also strategic in ArcaOS we use it. And it makes the life a lot easier for the average user.

Hardware / Re: HP Printer support
« on: October 11, 2019, 05:57:56 pm »
The support in Cups for HP printers has been very good. But it's getting stale. If I look at printers in retail outlets or on-line, I'm no longer seeing support.

I'm looking at two consumer-grade color laser printers. These printers are cheap to buy, but expensive to buy new toner, which is appropriate for a home or business with modest printing needs.

The HP printer driver is called hplip, and we have version 3.17.11-1 at Netlabs, which can be installed by RPM/YUM.

My old M252dw has been replaced by M254dw, and needs 3.18.5 or later. The slightly fancier M454dw needs 3.19.6 or later.

I don't know how difficult it is to port the hplip software, but supporting at least one brand of printer is strategic, and HP is at least commonly sold in USA. They are also good at recycling used toner cartridges.
we have 3.19.8 in exp repo :) I did that some days ago.
gutenprint is also updated in exp and cups-filters is in the process.

Applications / Re: OpenOffice 4.1.6 fatal error, any solutions?
« on: August 26, 2019, 12:16:35 pm »
When trying to start OpenOffice, I'll get the following message. Is there any way to fix this?

OpenOffice 4.1.6 - Fatal Error

The application cannot be started.
exception occured raising singleton
"/singletons/com.syn.star.deployment.ExtensionManager": loading component library failed:
file://C:\PROGRAMS\APACHEOPENOFFICE.4/PROGRAM/../program/deploy.dll
you miss libxml2. Install it via "yum install libxml2" or you can also use ANPM to do so of course.. ArcaOS doesn't deliver that by default. The readme should have pointed you to it btw.

OK, I will try update via yum, when I'm home again.
I think, I have to file this one via Netlabs.
yum update crashed midway. After a reboot, python couldn't import its SSL wrapper.
I had to unpack the RPM on linux and copy them over to my /@unixroot.
After that, yum was working again.
can you reproduce the issue? As w/o a reproducable case it's almost impossible to see what the issue could have caused. As to be honest we never got such a report so far. Which doesn't mean anything :)

Hardware / Re: AS400 and IBM Access Client Solution (ACS)
« on: February 05, 2019, 08:52:03 am »
Thanks for your comment. I went to Google and found IBM i Access Client Solutions (32-bit) Version: 1.1.5.0 Build id: 5492. This seems to start and I am able to connect to the iSeries with a 5250 emulator.

I am looking to enable SSL, but I think something is missing on the host.

Neil
I can send you my version is you want. Please write me private if needed.

For SSL the host needs to have installed some license programs. If you need consulting for the i5 let me know as well.

There is one drawback, you need to use a older version, as the latest is not running with out java :( I use version 1.1.6.2 build 7031 from January 2017. All later builds did crash for me as well.

And I use exactly the same command as you stated.

Games / Re: Tetris-like game

imho this is really a waste of time, as we have already a lot Tetris like games. See http://trac.netlabs.org/qtapps/wiki/QT4%20Games

I appreciate your guidance.  I'm asking for your best advice, Silvan ... should I abandon the project?

In my opinion yes. But YMMV

Applications / Re: Creating archive > 4GiB from script
« on: November 29, 2018, 11:07:15 am »
I have a script on my ArcaOS system that I use to backup all of my logical drives, except those used by openSUSE, to a USB thumb drive. It works well except for drive M:, a rather large collection of manuals. The script uses zip, and when the archive file exceeds 4 GiB, unzip can't handle it.
unzip can definitely handle large files. Also the klibc based build can unarchive a compressed zip archive larger than 4GB. The problem with the private klibc build is a broken directory handling combined with file name and path length problems. Almost every program that is linked dynamically against libcxx has problems with root directories and codepages in general. But the LARGEFILE stuff is handled in a proper way on supported file systems. So in real world you can use it for single file zip archives larger than 4 GB without issues, but there will be problems with large directory sizes, amount of files or deep path structures.

Quote
I tried using -s and concatenating the pieces, but that just changed the symptoms.

Plan B was p7zip, with the command 7za w:\temp\M.7z M:\

I get a message that no files were found and an empty archive. I tried adding an * to M:\* and I tried the -r option; neither helped. What is the correct syntax for creating an archive of the entire volume?
A simple solution or workaround when files can cause trouble for crappy tools is to avoid the usage of files completely or to some degree. You can do simply a complete disk dump of this volume and piping it through a compressor to create a large file for recovery. Or you collect all names in the volume (by a dir or find utility) and check if names and path length can be handled by those tools you mentioned earlier.
as you seem to know exactly whats wrong with those so called private builds (even I have no idea why those should be called like that), I wonder where your bug reports are.
Exactly such ports give me the feeling I should completely give up on either reading anything in this forum at all, or give up completely with porting software.
Just pointing to software which should not behave right, but not adding bug reports is not the way to go. Sorry

Applications / Re: Printerdriver for cups
« on: November 11, 2018, 10:23:36 pm »
Don't know the version. I think 1.4.

How can I remove the old cups? It is not installed as WPI. Or is it possible to install only the new drivers?

Micky
You need the whole Cups update. Use ANPM. As easiest. Cups is a complete solution.

Utilities / Re: Stability Zip3 & Unzip6
« on: November 10, 2018, 02:58:35 pm »
There was only one release of UnZip and Zip form Info-ZIP that can be downloaded here: ftp://ftp.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/os2/

There were at least 2 different compiles and versions, IIRC Australian and German, and each package was not stable.
Those private builds lack in UNZIP.DLL and use broken environments or C libraries. Better stay with the supported original software.
I wonder in what sense those are broken. Did you ever create a bug report about that? If not I recommend you doing so.

If we would know which cops version you use we might help you. And if you still use the old and outdated cups 1.4 you have to upgrade to cups 2. As this has a lot more drivers and a lot never ones.
