Today I start my new Project (inspired by my own words in the AN thread  ::)  ):

I will try to create a bootable OS/2 Stick with a working minimal OS/2 Environment, that - in the second stage shall give the function to install an OS/2 clone and be used as a recoverytool in Addition. I will use therefore mostly the Procedere that is decribed in the readme of the hdd4 part of QSINIT.

What I plan to use for this:

- the QSINIT Loader and the HDD4DISK Driver
- the Programm bootos2 (yes, there is the very good program booatble/2 around, but I am still not used to it, sorry, may be I will incorporate it later)
- I Need a updated Warp 4.52 Installation
- from that I will create a minimal pure OS/2 Installation, with ACPI, AHCI, USB Support and so on
- at least it should include DFSEE and the OS/2 commander
- Hardware: my X200T with Dockingstation (DVD)

Steps to go:

1. creating 2 Primary partitions, each 2 GB size
2. Install on the first one (Drive Letter C:) a native OS/2 System
3. Update that System with lastest Drivers and systemfiles
4. Add to this DFSEE and OS/2 Commander
5. use bootos2 to create a minimal pure OS/2 System (without DOS/WIN16 Support), FAT on the second Partition with driveletter O:
6. Check what Addition has to be done on O:
7. ZIP the O: Installation
8. create a bootable QSINIT USB Stick according to the Readme
9. try to add a second persistant Partition on that stick (for later use as "Clone Reservoir")
10. add a boot menue to the stick
11. copy the zipped Installation (later may be more different installations)
12. Reboot and cross fingers  ;)

I have no specific timetable and will do this during my rare spare time, but today is a good day to start and I have some hours free :) I think it will not be to timeconsuming to Setup the initial two Systems, let's see.

I will Report my Progress.

Applications / Blue Lion Beta testing...
« on: February 08, 2017, 08:11:00 am »
While I am happy about Blue Lion reaching beta stage a bit more Information about the product would be highly appreciated.

The questions I have are really easy to answer:

- is UNIAUD updated - and if - what additional Hardware is supported ?
- is an updated SNAP included - and if - what additional Hardware is supported ?
- is the INTEL WLAN Mulitmac included - and if - what additional Hardware is supported?

It would be really nice to have some more Facts, thank you very much in advance!

I repeat my offer to test it on a (more or less) recent Laptop - Lenovo T450s (running my updated WSeB so far) if it is usefull to Arca Noae.

I copy from another (Open Office Thread) to possibly get more Attention:
Just for Information:

you may have read that collected 3.000 Euro as donations for the next Firefox Release/enhanced Java script Support.

There was a very interesting discussion about "free Software" at all.

Setup & Installation / OS/2 and Hyper-V
« on: October 28, 2016, 08:52:18 pm »
In this thread:

Hyper_V Virtualisation from Mircosoft is named - if it is possible to use OS/2 or eCS with it. As it seems that Installation inside Hpyer V is not supported I made a Quickshot: I used a Virtualbox OS/2 Installation and transformed the Container inside Hyper V. At least it seems to start  :D

This seems to be a possible way, but - if someone is interested to Play around with it - some more testing and digging is needed.

I am still busy with my next DVD  ;)

Just for Information.

I have a question regarding the boot process of OS/2 (MCP), that rised while Building my DVD including the QSINIT Loader:

What I am doing is:

I am building an updated OS/2 DVD using the Program UPDCD and therein using as boot method "No emulation boot".

What I did:

I added os2ldr (qsinit), os2ldr.ini and qsinit.ldi to the that is used for no emulation boot. That works perfect so far, when the DVD boots it directly shows me the bootmenue I configured in os2ldr.ini. I can use all the functionalety from QSINIT (like the shell, the Menue and so on). I also modified the config.sys in that it can boot from USB connected devices and supports the OS2AHCI driver.
The no emulation boot installs a drive Z:
I do not use a qssetup.cmd
The config.sys includes a RESERVEDRIVELETTER=W that comes from UPDCD to have the drive letter X: as the installation drive of the DVD

Once I proceed, the installation program of OS/2 is starting, just as I wanted it to do. I can go through and install OS/2 on hardware, that has a build in DVD (IDE/SATA) drive. The boot process of the second stage of installation starts the QSINIT Menue as well, as well when the installation is finished. So for that case - having an internal DVD - everything works really well! The same goes with Installation inside VirtualBox.  ; :)

BUT -  :( -  this is not working on USB connected or AHCI enabled drives. The problem is, that during the second stage of installation (so the first time booting from HDD) it seems that the modifications I made for the config.sys in are not present any more. The second stage shows me the qsinit boot menue as well, and once I proceed it hangs with either "Insert OS/2 CD ROM" for USB Devices/AHCI or it hangs it a driver like I2O.... for AHCI during the boot.

I figured out, that for some reason, the config.sys that is used for this second stage is not the one that I modified and included in Therefore there is no more usb support nor os2ahci support anymore included, it is the "standard config.sys" from MCP2. Therefore the Installation with "Internal compatibel mode DVD" and "Virtualbox" works fine, as both just need danis506.add during second boot, that is inlcuded in the used "Standard Config.sys".

I than tried to answer one question by myself: wich config.sys is OS/2 using when starting for the first time from HDD when starting the second installation phase? I tried and replaced the config.sys in \OS2IMAGE\Disk_1 on the DVD and included it in the BUNDLE of \OS2IMAGE\DISK_1 - but nothing changed. The same goes with config.x in Disk_0 and Disk_1 and config.add (what I assume adds during Installation some additional lines only used for Installation) - makes no difference.

Do someone have a clue where I can find the config.sys that is used for this second stage of Installation in the file structure of OS/2 CD/DVD or is it created during Installation Phase 1? If it is create - wich config file is used as a template for this?

Thank you very much in advance!

Applications / Systemload and CPUTEMP - Question
« on: November 15, 2015, 03:23:55 pm »
Mentioned in another thread I tried to use the Programs CPUTEMP and Systemload. Both are working quite well  :)

But I do have one question:

Please take a look at Picture CPUTEMP1: the Program Sysload does not show the Temperature in the program, may the desktop Resolution (1920X1080 FullHD) be to high?

Thanks for hints - and for programming this!

Applications / IBM Server Guide Pictures for Martin
« on: October 19, 2015, 09:31:40 pm »
Hi Martin,

here some pictures for your gallery from a software I once used in 1998 and did just purchase a this shrink warpped version today.

I would like to discuss the problems (legal, drivers etc.) in case I would distribute (may be the wrong term for it) an Updated OS/2 Warp 4.52 DVD.

Please feel free to write every problem etc. that might occur in your opinion - I would really appreciate this!

What I consider to do is:

For users wich do have:

- a vaild license to use the MCP 2 (wich is by the way - as far as I know - included in eCS License)
- a valid license to use the ArcaNoae Drivers

I would offer for free an updated OS/2 Warp 4 DVD, including latest Drivers from Arca Noae, a lot of enhancements, the QSINIT Loader etc. In fact this is what I am trying to achive with my project I am writing about at only for myself so far. I do not want to make money with this, just to spread the idea and may be the DVD.

- this DVD does not include drivers or parts of ecomstation nor (ecosoftware) etc.
- this is just an idea I would like to discuss
- this idea is discussed with no other person so far

So I try to collect:

- with whom I would have to speak in Advance?
- wich files could I use for this, wich not (i.e. wich kernel)?
- what else?

In case the "Delivering of an DVD" is to complicated or impossible I consider to write a "Cookbook" how to achieve this. But this is very time consuming.

Thanks in Advance!

Multimedia / Firefox 35 (Firefox Hello) - Videochat with OS/2 ?
« on: February 12, 2015, 01:54:23 pm »
Just would like to ask: If it would be possible to have Firefox 35 WITH Firefox Hello ported to OS/2 - would Videochat via Webcam be possible with it?

Wim is just working on the Webcam support for the Vaio Pro I have, and here is what it looks like running the Logitech Webcam with it  8)

Please keep in mind that my Screen Resolution here is 1920X1080, therefore the 640X400 window seems a bit small, but it is for me the perfect size (if you want to have it bigger, just decrease the screen resolution to i.e. 1024X736)

And the Webcam is running for half an hour without any freeze now  :D
