Article Discussions / Re: ecs 2.2
« on: November 13, 2013, 06:37:14 pm »
1) eCS is situated in other conditions. Different financial situation, different agreements, different market.
So, we have other way.

2) It's difficult compare eCS with Haiku or Linux.

* Linux is supported by large corporations: IBM, ..

* IMHO, eComStation way of development was more effective than Haiku's method of development. We got ACPI early.
We have the market of shareware products.

3) We (all users) support your activity in collection of source code, negotiations regarding abandonware.
But I repeat again, IMHO, eCS will stay semi-commercial (in the next 3 years).

I am not against open-source.

eComStation includes many open-sourced components already.

My message: eCS will stay "semi-open sourced" (partly open sourced), and partly closed.

It's impossible create open source OS/2. As I said, it can be created by several corporations but we don't have this businessmen.
To maintain open source OS you need millions dollars every year. To maintain eCS you need XX thousand dollars only.
There is no funds (capital) on eCS market, that's why eCS is partially closed.

1) Does Voyager project relate to OS/2? I don't this so. As I remember, it was about copying WPS desktop to other platforms.
That's why OS/2 people didn't supported it.

2) Currently people buy eCS licenses. People don't pay for support service to service providers.
In this model, there is no need to open source OS/2 / eCS, All development goes on eCS money. There is no other interested commercial companies.

It will be automatically open-sourced if several companies create solutions based on OS/2, attract many customers, pay for all bills, pay for all development. In this model, this companies will open source own code to cooperate.

But this doesn't happen. So, eCS will stay semi-commercial, semi-open-sourced.

What will happen if you sell all your OS/2 items?!

Can you lose your OS/2 soul?

> Some suggestions how to change the conference organization:

Warpstock Europe 2014:
It's important select right place for the conference.
* "+" Arnhem and Duesseldorf - good choice because the cities are located near to the border  (between Germany and The Netherlands).  And attract more people from this countries.
* "-" On the other side, it's good idea select other place for every new conference

Setup & Installation / Re: Corrupt Partition Table

To Warp:

Do you know the main rule? All partitions (volumes) should be created from eComStation using LVM.
1) create partitions from eCS, 2) Install Windows, 3) Install Linux, 4) Install eCS

It's necessary forget about DBCS in rspinst,

use rspinst created by eCo Software,

use LIP packages to distribute DBCS  NLV versions of eCS.

It's so easy!

Excellent article. The 1-st positive article in the last few years.
Compact, touches the most important topics: User Interface, applications deployment and device drivers.

It would be nice to read more reviews which illuminate other changes in eComStation.

Message from eComStation.RU:

We can't participate in the conflicts,
we don't touch conflict nervous people.

If publish all materials, this will make damage to the health of Sigurd and damage to eComStation.

The investors and customers can request for details of the story (to verify that eComStation.RU didn't made any damage to the user). There is log, step by step what the wrecker was doing and conclusion which we made after every attack.

B) Rules of eComStation.RU site --
    Q1: Does eComStation.RU has censorship?
Q2: Removing articles, reviews by request
    Q3: Right of quotation
Q4: What streams of news does eComStation.RU generate
Q5: What is the budget of eComStation.RU site?

C) is generating 3 streams of news:
* there are standard news - posted via OS2VOICE news service. Standard news (software updates, FAQ, events & people, .. ) If you don't want read this news then you can filter this messages.
* there are news - people subscribe by themselves and receive 100% of messages, including local. If you don't want read this news then you can unsubscribe.
* we are sending 4 private (personal) messages per year (four emails / 365 days, in other words, 1 message per quarter). Something similar to Netlabs newsletter. If you don't want read this news then you can unsubscribe. Example: If I send the message to 1000 emails then 1 user unsubscribes and 20 users send positive feedback and make extra questions.

Every message is different, contains information about software updates, links to useful databases or coming event.

There are some people in comp.os.*, other people at, different people at, We are obligated inform all our users and customers about new applications and important events.

D) To Andreas Schnellbacher: You have received 3 personal messages from eComStation.RU during 2012. You could unsubscribe but you didn't. This means that this messages were useful for you. I am sorry for inconvenience. Your email is removed from the database now.
