Alex! You are indeed a GENIUS!¡ (but I think you already know that!)
The Generic Postscript Printer (Enhanced) works like a charm. Using you're procedure it actually installed a Printer Object for both USB (which I'm testing now) and a Printer Object for CUPS which I'll get to later. Additionally I'll see if Per's configuration also works.
Gotta give up for now, too many hours gwalking & swearing at this computer. More details tomorrow or the next day.
I owe you Big Time Alex for you're continued efforts to help me,

Thanks again   klipp

Hi Per, I gotta agree with you, I just found this post in Ecomstation,ru on page 8 of Hardware,Printers -where James J. Weinkam states "The CP2025 supports both PCL and Postscript. This specific model is not included in the Laserjet and Postscript drivers shipped with eCS 2.0 GA. However selecting HP Color Laserjet 9500 works fine with both drivers once they are configured to use the features actually available on the printer" He stated this Jan 22,2011 and rated the printer "Very Good" which I believe is probably the same rating you would apply. I'm guessing he was using CUPS but for sure about that. I wish there was some way of communicating with him.
But one thing is for sure now, two people have had excellent results using this Excellent Printer with OS/2, which also says The problem lies with me rather than the printer. This is pretty embarresing for me, as I'm not exactly a "Newbie" using OS/2, I've been using it for 33 years now but obviously have very limited knowledge about Printers. I'm now still using an ancient (like me) Xerox Phaser 3110 laser printer that has served me faithfully for somewhere around 10 years, but is slowly dieing from old age and overuse. This ancient warrior also would not work with USB and also would have nothing to do with CUPs  but preformed flawlessly with a SAMSUNG_GDIDRV for all these years. This printer should not take a "Bad Rap" because of my ignorance, Hopefully with all the advice I've received from you, Alex, Pete and others, sometime (hopefully in the near future) I'll get my "Ducks all in a row" and be able to describe how I eventually made this printer work. If I am ever able to do this, I will post a Detailed desriptive "How-To" on my web site.
Thanks againt to all for all the help    klipp

Hi Pete, Boy, the more I screw with this the more "Screwed UP" I get! Yeah, i finally figured out it was not listing two different printers, just two options for setting up the installed printer. Both work as far as printing a Cups Test Page.
Now I'm trying to setup the hplip-3_12_10a.wpi which installed in D:\ecs\install\PRNDRV\ecups-hp, but I can't remember how I get access to the .ppd files embedded in that directory. I guess I have to use PIN? I used to use that a long time ago but can't seem to make it work now --- can you "enlighten " me a little?
Also, Alex recommended I try using "Generic Postscript (enhanced), which I also can't find, is that possibly in the hplip drivers? And is that also where to find the "Simplified" version you mentioned?

Thanks for you're help & patience.  klipp

Looks like Pete is right (as usual)! But rather then look for old DLL's I set up on another clean machine -- no printers! Doing http://localhoct:631 and "looking for Available Printers" gave these two Identical results:

Add this printer:HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn (HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn
Add this printer:HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn (HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn

They look identical, but when you click on them the connection is different:
USB:/HP/HP%20Color%20LaserJet%20CP2025dn?serial=00CNGS467706
socket://192.168.1.140
Using the first and setting up with the 2025.ppd, printing a test page almost works, it hangs "processing page 2"
Doing the same but using the 2020.ppd it works fine and produces a "test page" printed on both sides
Using the socket it does the same, prints a test page with printing on both sides of the page.

Creating a printer object with cupswiz works fine but trying to use either of these objects to print with apparently crashes the program as it immeadiatly returns to the desktop, killing whatever program was trying to print.

Frustrated, I then attached the other machines on the Lan and they were able to print the Test Pages from the host machine. So it looks like CUPS is functioning correctly its just not possible to create a functional printer object.

its also werid that Cups finds two different printers to install, I don't understand that either!

Thats it for now, hopefully more tomorrow     klipp

ooh, and Alex, popup.log tells me nothing I can make sense of, if you want I'll post it.

Hi Per & Alex, Per - I've tried this on a different machine with no other printers installed, same results. I just also tried setting the Printer I.P. to 192.168.1.118 (same as you'rs) and that didn't work either.
Alex, I used you're CUPSwiz and it created the CUPS printer. But when the printer is selected to print using  HP2025 and "print" is selected it pauses very briefly then kills whichever program (SeaMonkey or Open Office) was used and returns to the Desktop. One interesting thing was that  CUPSwiz created two Printer entries for the H.P.2025 to select from:
HP Color Laserjet CP2020 series;HPCOLOR1 and
HP Color Laserjet CP2020 series:HPCOLORL
Other note: Running Windoz XP , XP installs the printer as "socket;//192.168.1.140
Printer works fine on both SuSE 12.3 & Windoz

Hey Per, I think you're idea may be the solution! This printer was sold in Mexico, so I had to change the language to english Then I got to thinking about it, and thought they might have changed something in the configurarion -- so I did a "Restore Defaults" which set everything back to what is apparently defaults for Mexico, I changed the language back to english and tried it once more, but the same results- nothing printed!
I will scan & upload the Printer configuration later today so you can compare results.
Alex, thanks for getting involved as I would really like to be able to also use CUPS. Like I stated earlier, CUPS test page prints 100% correct (I will also scan and upload a copy of the test page printout) But using the procedure on the CUPS How TO it creates the desktop printer but when that is selected by either Seamonkey & OpenOffice for printing, it does nothing and returns to the Desktop. Is  there a better way of setting this up?
Thanks again to both of you, gotta go do a bunch of crap for the wife then later I can get back to the important things in life!

I just set it up on another system with the same results.
LPD server 192.168.1.140
LPD Printer HP2025
Port Name SLPR1
Timeout 45 secs
Preformance Nothing selected

No activity on printer, File is sent but no printer response
Driver is installed and outport port SLPR1 is selected

I also tried setting up in CUPS and that all went well and it printed sucessfully a color test page, but when i created the desktop object
and tried printing both a Web page and a Text Document,  it blows off everything and returns to the desktop.
My God I hope I havn't bought another "Boat Anchor" --- one small pluss, this printer is soo heavy it will anchor a pretty large boat!

Thanks for all the help   klipp

I'm running eCS 2.2 beta and creating a pretty much the same as you have indicated, but there is no HP postscript driver 3700 ps" listed. The driver I've been trying to use is POSTSCRIPT .HP Color LaserJet 3700 PS. Is this incorrect?

Thanks for you're response Per. Using http://192.168.1.140 works as you described, and you were also correct that the machine listed NPIF9E888 incorrectly and I changed it to NP1F9E888. But still nothing when I try to print. I guess the only thing remaining is to try it on a different machine. I did try it using CUPS  1.4.8 and calling it a HP Color LaserJet CP 2020 and it worked and sucessfully printed a Printer Test Page but I've forgotten how to set up the Desktop Printer Object -- Well, i thought i knew how but what i tried didn't work.
Do you have any other suggestions? Alex? How about you?

Thanks to both of you!  klipp

I need more help PER! I just got my H.P. 2025dn today but have not been able to get it to work. What did you enter for SLPR1 properties? LPD Server=???? and LPD Printer=?????. That's the only thing I can think of that I might be setting wrong.

Hey Per, I just got my H.P. 2025dn. Havn't been able to make it work yet though. I'm trying to use you're setup instructions with SLPR port. I got the LPD Server set as 192.168.1.140 which is the same as the IPv4 Address. But I don't know for sure to enter as LPD Printer. Setup on th H.P. 2025 does not show a LPD Name. Could you tell me what you had to enter for both of these items?

thanks  klipp

Hey Pete, I did some digging and there'e a whole bunch of H.P. printers needing thar HPLIP  driver, H.P. has released two different upgrades to it and it still doesn't work. But of course it works with Windoz! Anyways I've got the cp 1025nw boxed back up and am going to try to return it tommorow. They told me it was guaranteed to work with both Linux & OS/2 so possibly I might get my money back. Although in the past I've had problems with Mexican guarentees!
Thanks for the input     klipp
