Hi,

You will also need to install the smb NetDrive plugin.   You can find it here: http://trac.netlabs.org/samba

Once installed, use the NetDrive Volume menu and select "Attach New Volume" menu option.  You will then elect a drive letter to assign your mount point.

With your mount point highlighted within NetDrive, select the Resource menu and the "Mount Resource" menu option. You will be presented with a screen where you should see the option of "smbfs" which is your samba plugin you installed.

Clicking the "Properties" button will present a screen where you identify your smb workgroup, server, share name, and login credentials.  Once you complete these entries and click the Done button, you will then have your mount point defined and it should be mounted and ready for use.

To save these settings for future use, select the NetDrive menu and the Volume Configuration Save option.

If you ever lose your mount point due to network issues, you can restart NetDrive by selecting the NetDrive menu, and Control Program Start option.

Sean, sorry for getting back to you, I have installed the samba plugin and proceeded as per your instruction.
Once selected a drive letter to mount (K) , then I go in Resource menu, select the Mount Resource item, choose smbfs and click on Properties (img smbfs1.jpg).

Here (img smbfs2.JPG) is not so clear what/where to set as parameter, and I've also read the HELP section. My main need is to discover/browse my HD volumes other than C:\ which is the root OS2 system in VirtualBox, and secondly (possibly) my home lan connected volumes.

Whatever I try to write -without knowing what it might mean- , I obtain the system error warnings (img smbfs3.JPG and img smbfs4.JPG).

Of course I would need to be more aware or at least more intuitive

This link from http://trac.netlabs.org/samba works for me:
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/samba/client/ndpsmb-2_1_5-GA-20131003.wpi

I believe there is a wrong URL prefix address handling on my browser, since it anyway begins in the address field as "http://ftp://ftp..............."

thank you Sean, the netlabs url linking to the Samba Netdrive plugin (both 3.3.16  and  3.5.21 beta4) point to 404 message pages, but now found this file by Paul Smedley at

https://ecsoft2.org/client-samba-plugin-netdrive-o-evfsgui

so I got the zip file
http://smedley.id.au/downloads/ndpsmb-3.6-samba410-20190324.zip

containing only ndpsmb.dll and ndpsmb.map, no readme for installation instruction.

the quick manual inst reference on the EcSoft/2 page says "unzip the downloaded plugin archive to an empty directory and run instpl.cmd" but there is no such file in the zip archive
Am I supposed to just place those two files in the OS2/DLL directory ?

ok installed Samba client and NetDrive, started NetDrive I have a blank panel…..can you lead me on the right way to get a shared resource (i.e my other volume on the system), or maybe I have to separately add the proper plugin?
Thanks

Ok, thank you Martin and Dariusz, I understood would be easier having NetDrive to handle with Samba Client installed.
I just saw that is a shareware, it costs 29$ to to use it,  but also read this point (below) in terms & conditions which would state a free utilization if limited to Samba plugin only, that would apply to my case, am I right?

Using NetDrive for OS/2 exclusively with the Samba plugin removes the
restrictions imposed by the Shareware License but does not convert
NetDrive for OS/2 to the registered version. Specifically, using NetDrive
for OS/2 exclusively with the Samba plugin under this Exclusive Samba Use
License does not entitle the user to the Developer support provided for
the registered version of NetDrive for OS/2 under the Shareware License.

Applications / Samba client on OS2 Warp 4.52

Hi all, I've seen that a few packages have been introducted on Arcanoae subscription repository, and Samba Client Utility among them.
I do not have a strong knowledge on what it could be useful for, I just presume that it could be good to implement the browsing of the volumes belonging to my  host pc HD (being OS2 running on VirtualBox), or else other pc connected in my domestic lan.
Could someone help me in understanding more?
Thank you

well,  I prefer not to have a full screen resolution (1368x 768) so that I can get meantime an OS2 session window and the host system gadgets to handle in background if needed. Found that 660 px was about the maximum vertical size I could get in this situation, if I also wanted both the top side Virtualbox menu and the bottom side machine status icons (see picture).

My final purpose (and it's done) is obtaining a portable OS2 Warp 4.52 full system on an USB3 selfbootable pendrive, usable on any pc just by plug it in, turn the pc on and recalling the initial selective boot volume menu.

This is how I managed:

- created self bootable USB3 pendrive (32Gb) with a full Ubuntu 18.04 installation
- Virtualbox installed on it and running the OS2 vdi machine imported from Win 10, virtual machine which has been best configured as I could do with the precious help of this community including the Guest Additions
- setted the automatic start of the OS2 vdi just after Ubuntu desktop has loaded (quite simple)

it has been a tricky workaround, but I don't think it would be possible installing directly OS2 Warp on an USB stick to be selfbootable like I can do with Ubuntu.

158
good, I found the way.
Meantime I can confirm that once installed OS2 Guest Additions onto OS2 virtual machine, then they will work in any host system.
The strings to input the custom screen resolution of the VDI machine were almost same of the ones given in the Windows cmd console, and.....

-it is essential that Virtualbox application is not running.
-no sudo mode should be activated in the Linux command terminal (and of course no Root as well)
-unlike in the Windows cmd case, no quotation marks must be used in the Linux command line.

this is how it worked for me:

mauro@mauro-HP:~$ VBoxManage setextradata global GUI/MaxGuestResolution any

mauro@mauro-HP:~$ VBoxManage setextradata OS2W452 CustomVideoMode1 1150x660x32

then I runned OS2 virtual machine and after system booted I went in the System Setup and found the screen resolution 1150x660x32 among the others, selected, closed the Setup window and rebooted; I found the new 1150x660 resolution working

159
Have you tried asking that question in the Ask Ubuntu pages?

no, good idea, did not consider this

Quote
Have you actually installed the OS/2 guest additions on the Ubuntu virtual box warp guest?  You cant use the windows versions on Linux.  Once you have the Linux version of the additions running you should be able to set the screen resolution in the virtual machine (at least that is what I can do with my vBox on Linux Mint).

well I'm missing the need of this since I know only one exsisting version of OS2 Guest Addition.  I've installed them under Windows but it was an OS2 mode installation, meaning that I did it merely by replacing-adding some drivers version in some directory and editing the config.sys, I could have done same in linux.
The confirmation is that mouse integration and clipboard sharing and shared folder are actually working in Ubuntu host once imported the virtual machine from Windows like it was.

160
Hi all, after having intalled/configured OS2 Warp 4.52 in Virtualbox Windows hosted with a satisfactory result,  I'm now doing same in Ubuntu.
Of course I have imported same virtual machine latest version developed in Virtualbox Windows hosted including the OS2 guest addition installed.
I'm having problem with the custom screen resolution, cannot obtain the one I'd like to set.
While in Windows hosting I had successfully applied the given commands

C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>VBoxManage setextradata global GUI/MaxGuestResolution any

C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>VBoxManage setextradata "OS2 Warp 4.52" "CustomVideoMode1" "1280x720x32"

now I cannot find an equivalent working in the Ubuntu terminal.

Can someone help me?
Thank you

hi all, hope to give a useful indication consisting -this is what I did- in placing libusb10.dll in  /usr/lib , (not in  /OS2/dll) .

however, have to say that it would not work without using the the recent versions of both scanimage.exe and libusb10.dll

1. Have a look at what I had to do to use my LIDE 210 scanner.

2. Add your LIDE 100 scanner to your GENESYS.CONF as follows:

Code: [Select]
# Canon LiDE 100
usb 0x04a9 0x1904

Wim.

Wim, your method has worked !!
This was the magic key.
I then thank you and the other poster who wanted to help me here (Ivan, Paul, Pete, Phil, Dave, David).

You could try the later sane (scanimage) package.
You may also need the later libusb package - check date of any installed libusb10.dll against package date. If I remember correctly libusb handles usb without using usb drivers - apart from, possibly, the usb controller.

libusb uses usbresmg.sys & usbcalls which are part of the USB stack. Looks like I rebuilt it a while back to accomodate changes in these drivers - http://smedley.id.au/tmp/libusb-20161207.zip

I would also suggest the later sane package.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul, using the latest scanimage, exe version did not prudiced anu change.
Then replacing the libusb10.dll whit the latest suggested version, took many output lines on prompt command scanimage.exe -L and -T,  I paste here just the last ones as I cannot scroll up the previous lines on the command window:

You say I would need to have the latest Sane version, but how I can integrate it in Tame/2 ?
Also, do I have to download/place your above zip file as well?
Thank you

Hi mauro

………………...
If I had to guess the problem I would go with ivans suggestion of usb driver problem...

Pete

well I could also try with the wireless network mfp scanner (Samsung C460) if I could be lead step to step on how-to, since I have no knowledge at all on this
