Setup & Installation / Re: Is eComStation DEAD?
« on: August 02, 2014, 02:18:22 pm »
I was talking about Windows 1.0 sources, Boris:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/dev/wps/wpsfwin-build-source.zip
Surely as start-up could be usefull, I doubt that really motivated programmers don't know what to do with this code, it was for MS Windows, yes, but it certainly derived from the original OS/2 code, so a clone would have been possible years ago, let's say that perhaps lacked uniformity of views on the matter, however I was talking about an alternative transition until OSFree would not have seen the light, but now they are just words in the wind, too late.

Well, in fact it was not a bad idea, instead of wasting time and resources to bring an endless supply of software, which is never 100% working and we always have something wrong, 10 years ago we simply could choose a good alternative hybrid kernel, with a basic structure based on Linux, BSD, or perhaps better yet, the software already exists, no hot water to rediscovery, and we would be limited to just clone the workplaceshell with all its features, SOM included, the sources of which are now available for both software (yes, even the wps, see hobbes!). A team of programmers really motivated, with that code as start-up, probably since 2001 had already made a lot of steps forward (Cinnamon on Linux has a few years of life), including also a layer of compatibility for older OS/2 applications (a kind of OS2Wine)! We will have solved our problem long time ago, we were ready for 64-bit and the new hardware and then we calmly could wait for an OS/2 open source clone without begging to ibm or others. Not to mention that these steps in the meantime, could accelerating the development OSFree. Surely it would have been much less effort than trying to float a boat that was already doomed. Sorry for the outburst, but seeing how things are gone, perhaps it would have been much better!

Golden words, maybe! Too smart. A chance to redeem himself and get rid of the competition with a single blow! Would be the hit of the millennium and the rebirth of IT! How to say "Okay Gentlemen, cheating until now, you won all, now, with your permission ... this card wins all and cleans also the flat .. I'm sorry ... but this is what I wanted from the beginning ... OS/2 Warp 5!!"
This spot says much more than any words

Late arrival or it is known that for anyone who has a software subscription there are no more files available?
But end up to provide support for a product in this way? without notifying the customers? And if i need to download a new copy of eCS? or simply i don't remember my serials?
Finally dead then, without warning :-X !!!

Storage / Re: SSD on IBM T23
« on: July 01, 2014, 08:34:27 pm »
Yes, Boris, it works quite well and is also a bit faster! Cloned all partitions using dfsee, boot at first time, no erros. Only a problem: LBMix does not work anymore and so I have no sound, it gives me a window error never seen before, the same using unimix and system volume. Already re-installed the program several times, reinstall also uniaud?

Risk of non-compatibility between the disk and the adapter, I bought them anyway, so we'll see, I'll let you know  :)

Thanks, Boris
So these solutions work quite well, ok I can buy. What interface do you have to avoid the risk?

Good to know about filesystem, Chen.
Yes,  I thought directly to a PATA SSD, but it could live more than the notebook itself, and the t23 is the only notebook I have with an IDE interface, so if it breaks before I could always use the disk  with a latest notebook or simply use an external usb case (i've only two cases with sata interfaces).
I'm not interest in performances, however, can i insert both into the slot and close it? does bios see the hd?

Storage / SSD on IBM T23

Hi all
I would like to upgrade the disk on my old ibm t23, a similar solution (IDE-PATA to microSATA adapter + 128GB SSD), in my case,  does it works on eCS?:

More suggestions?
Thanks

Sure, I know all of them, and they are not like to Gimp, true, but it was just to not feel the lack of Gimp, the toolbar icons as I seem comes from Gimp! anyway here goes quite well using latest odin.

Hi all, we often forget odin, I believe that while we are waiting for the Paul's efforts we can survive very well using Photofilter ( http://photofiltre.free.fr/ ), one of the few win programs that runs quite well on eCS.
Download the zip package, unzip in a folder, add plugins you prefer and simply pe.exe photofilter.exe.
It will not Gimp but it seems a lot, believe me ;-) !!

Hi Martin, there was an article on VOICE about, "The ugly duckling!" was the logical conclusion, since it reflect the real condition of OS/2 and eCS.

Sure I'd love the ugly duckling  :-* !!!!

Lswitch!!! This was what i was loocking for times ago, thanks Pete, i remember it but not the widget for eCenter! This solve definitively my problem (seems to me that David have the same problem than me with the windows list widget) without reinstalling all!! Now i have only one more desktop (the duplicate one got trying to solve the problem and the previous which has all my personal settings: i should restore manually  deleting/moving them to the new one.
But I still have the question: how is it possible? how occur/solve it?
