Just in case somebody needs a localised lightning add-on I attached the german xpi here.

Thanks Andreas. What the problem actually is, is that when packaging Mozilla, lxlite is run on the executable (and DLLs) which screws up the icons if they're high colour, so what I actually need is a thunderbird.ico that is 256 colour.

That's the reason I attached the file moz-icon.zip which only contains 8-bit (256 colour) icons to my message before.

You can manually change the emulated audio adapter to ALC888, but there's no driver support for OS/2. It's better to change the machine settings to values recommended by VMware for OS/2 guests.

Fixed the icon resources for both executables. Should be now compatible with most of the buggy display drivers used nowadays. Both executables are tested, but require now Warp 3, because I accidently removed OS/2 2.0 support. But I think nobody uses them without XUL.DLL which requires WSEB (4.5).

Btw. what's up with the diamond marker which is too huge in all mozilla applications now?

Setup & Installation / Re: ArcaOS5 and VMPlayer12
« on: May 23, 2017, 10:19:15 pm »
Thanks for the hints but None of them helped. The solution was as simple as this:

Do not use JFS!
It's not a general problem with JFS but with the Boot Manager. As long you're using HPFS for installation volume (without boot manager) there's no problem with additional volumes formatted with JFS.

What did not work is the UNIAUD Driver, it failed during boot, I guess I will give another one a try (Like Andreas wrote about SondBlaster).
Zur Sicherheit einfach mal "rmview /dp | grep 1274" ausführen. Eigentlich sollte der ES1371-Treiber (Hobbes) passen.

What makes me wonder: inside VMPlayer the PrebootMenue recognizes a SCSI Controller.
VMware only supports emulated SCSI HBA for older operating systems. VMware Workstation/player can use IDE, but that's not really supported.
You have to choose and configure the right SCSI adapter (BusLogic BT-958) for the VM. The LSI SCSI is not working with all releases of OS/2 and also can fail with VirtualBox on supported releases. With the BusLogic setting machines can be transferred between VirtualBox and VMware. But the emulated audio adapter is different under VMware (SB AudioPCI).

The DEVICE statement that contains SB16D2.SYS should be modified.

I wonder whether it could it be due to the fact that I picked SoundBlaster16 PnP in the ArcaOS installer initially and there is some fragment of that left in my config.sys that is causing a problem.

Simply use SoundBlaster 16 (NOT PnP) with:
A220 I5 D1 H5

Comments, Suggestions & Questions / Re: Renew use of OS/2
« on: May 16, 2017, 01:52:10 am »
There are a lot of misleading advises in this thread.

1. The disk image files (DISK0.DSK, DISK1_CD.DSK) are contained in the subdirecory \DISKIMGS\OS2\35 of the installation CD-ROM.
2. There's simply no need to convert them to a different image format. They are already in uncompressed form and can be used by virtualisation software directly.
3. Only the VirtualBox GUI configuration method for a VM has problems because of the filename extension. So simply add a *.img to the filename extension should resolve this stupid behavior.
4. VirtualBox only supports physical floppy drives for Windows host systems, but virtual images for all host systems.

Actually, the cache is a bit of a problem, because it is not missing. The cache is extra overhead, and slows the disk down. HPFS cache cannot be reduced to less than 64 MB.
It sounds unbelievable. With parameter /C: the amount can be 2048 kB at the utmost. It has more effect to adjust the cache record length (/CRECL) to fit better with the used HBA. Additionally it's possible to enable or disable the lazy write and read ahead features with the OS/2 command CACHE which also handles MAXAGE, BUFFERIDLE and DISKIDLE time.

Applications / Re: configuring the rpm release of cups
« on: April 23, 2017, 12:49:29 pm »
Hi All

As a result of reporting the cups-files.conf problem we now have the answer as to why cupsd -t reports ""/@unixroot/etc/cups/cups-files.conf" contains errors.".

It seems that something called klusmgr (KLIBC User management) *must* be installed and run to setup users/groups.
RPM should do it automatically. But almost every RPM package is broken in several ways or is missing the correct dependencies. And as with most pre-alpha software there's no documentation.

How well this KLIBC user management integrates with UPM?

@Andreas
I entered cupsd -t at a command prompt in /user/sbin.
The result is:-
"/@unixroot/etc/cups/cups-files.conf" contains errors.

I had a look at cups-files.conf but have idea what the error(s) are. Having copied cups-files.conf to a new name and deleted cups-files.conf I entered cupsd -t at the command line resulting in:-
"/@unixroot/etc/cups/cups-files.conf" is OK.
"/@unixroot/etc/cups/cupsd.conf" is OK.
At least it means you can run cupsd and don't have to go through DLL hell further. ;-)

Quote
I do wonder what cupsd is checking as cups-files.conf no longer exists - and, No, cupsd.exe is not running. I thought cupsd may be using cups-files.conf.default so copied that to cups-files.conf. That results in the "/@unixroot/etc/cups/cups-files.conf" contains errors. message when trying to start cupsd so I guess that is not the answer.

Comment the following line from cupsd.conf:
Listen /@unixroot/var/run/cups/cups.sock
I don't believe that those kinds of "ports" really use unix domain sockets. At least I could not find any indication in the sources that there are calls to local socket functions from AnyNet/2 or DCE. I don't know about the used C library, but that would be a surprise. So I hope somebody can prove me wrong.

And then simply run cups -f without erroneous cups-files.conf of course.

Quote
Also of interest: When cups-files.conf exists no logs are created. With cups-files.conf deleted access, error and page logs get created. Sadly they are not very helpful being 0 bytes in length...

I guess it indicates that cupsd.exe did try to start.

There should be something in file error_log now.

The best advise I can give: Stay away from as much crappy rpm packages as possible! Better use the latest CUPS compiled by Paul. It's not perfect or complete but it works to some degree if you really want to play with cups.

Hi All

Yes, localhost is configured - the non-rpm cups had no trouble accessing the cups browser interface.

I tried entering cupsd on the command line. The prompt returns with no return value:-

Please run from command line: cupsd -t

Quote
There are no cups related entries in popuplog.os2 and no cups error log is generated.

It's certainly possible that the RPM package contains erroneous configuration files. Simply remove or rename them. It seems the packager or half-porter has no clue about CUPS administration.

Not sure what your solution is for getting printed output from recent/current inkjet printers but the only thing I have found that works is the (non-rpm) port of cups.

Simply using PCL or PostScript to network connected printers. It works also for chinese devices from the garbage disposal.

I checked cupsd.exe using pmdll with directory set to /usr/sbin - and no errors... Either pmdll is not working right or cupsd.exe goes into "hiding" after starting and cannot be seen by any system tools or the browser pointed at http://localhost:631/

Please first check your IP configuration. The particular interface has to be actived and up when cupsd shall run. The next step would be to examine your name resolvers. Should be quite easy by using netstat.

Everything else at this state would be pure guess.

In most cases this so-called CUPS from RPM packages is only a makeshift. There are better workarounds for printing from OS/2 applications than this half-baked stuff. It's simply a waste of drive space on almost every client machine. And why should somebody in real world run CUPS under Warp Server? It's easier to keep it on UNIX servers where it really works and can be managed reliably. I'm only aware of a few Java applications that use IPP only for communication with IPP-capable servers like CUPS. It seems also to be a waste of time to explain UNIX printing system administration to unseasoned OS/2 users which simply want to print something with their local or network printers at home. A good example for an alleged solution that creates more problems than it solves.
